Dennis Rodman Apologizes for Outburst During CNN Interview, Says He'd Been Drinking

Dennis Rodman

In a statement released earlier today, former NBA player Dennis Rodman apologized for his explosive confrontation with CNN’s Chris Cuomo when challenged about his recent trip to North Korea and his refusal to discuss human rights abuses and the detention of Kenneth Bae with dictator Kim Jong-Un.

Read the statement in full:

I take full responsibility for my actions. It had been a very stressful day. Some of my teammates were leaving because of pressure from their families and business associates. My dreams of basketball diplomacy was quickly falling apart. I had been drinking. It’s not an excuse but by the time the interview happened I was upset.

I want to first apologize to Kenneth Bae’s family. I want to apologize to my teammates and my management team. I embarrassed a lot of people. I’m very sorry. At this point I should know better than to make political statements. I’m truly sorry.

Dennis Rodman Sings 'Happy Birthday' to North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un: VIDEO

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman sang "Happy Birthday" to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un today at an exhibition basketball game featuring a team of American basketball players.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

It's the latest in a series of bizarre videos to come out of Rodman's trip, the other two being confrontational interviews with CNN host Chris Cuomo and a group of reporters at the Beijing airport, all of whom demanded to know why Rodman won't address human rights abuses with the North Korean dictator.

The basketball game was a birthday gift for Kim Jong-Un. Critics of Rodman are now suggesting that Rodman may have brought illegal luxury gifts to the North Korean leader.

One Free Korea writes:

Writing at The Weekly Standard today, Dennis Halpin informs us that Dennis Rodman (no relation) was bringing more than his august presence to Kim Jong Un’s birthday party. Halpin, citing a “diplomatic source” he understandably won’t name but says is reliable, claims that Rodman was also carrying “several hundred dollars’ worth of Irish Jameson whiskey,” “European crystal, an Italian suit for him, and Italian clothing, a fur coat, and an English Mulberry handbag” for Kim’s wife, Ri Sol Ju...

...In his article, Halpin notes that bringing luxury goods into North Korea is prohibited by U.N. Security Council resolutions (several of them, in fact). Those sanctions were first imposed in 2006, after North Korea’s first nuclear test, as a response to Kim Jong Il’s obscene luxury purchases as his people went hungry.

Former NBA player Dennis Rodman exploded at CNN's Chris Cuomo when challenged about his trip to North Korea and asked why he wouldn't discuss human rights abuses and the detention of Kenneth Bae with dictator Kim Jong-Un. Rodman is on a trip with 11 American basketball players to entertain the North Korean despot for his birthday.

Screamed Rodman:

"Kenneth Bae did one thing ... If you understand what Kenneth Bae did. Do you understand what he did in this country? No, no, no, you tell me, you tell me. Why is he held captive here in this country, why? ... I would love to speak on this...You know, you've got 10 guys here, 10 guys here, they've left their families, they've left their damn families, to help this country, as in a sports venture. That's 10 guys, all these guys here, do anyone understand that? Christmas, New Year's ... I don't give a rat's ass what the hell you think. I'm saying to you, look at these guys here, look at them ... they dared to do one thing, they came here."

It was not Rodman's first confrontation with reporters on the reasons for his trip. He was challenged by a group of reporters in the Beijing airport over the weekend and asked the same question Cuomo asked.

Said Rodman: "That's not my job...This game is for his birthday...That’s not the right thing to do. He’s my friend first. He’s my friend. I don’t give a s--t. I tell the world: he’s my f--king friend, I love him.”

Dennis Rodman was cornered by a group of reporters in the Beijing airport on his way to North Korea with 11 American basketball players to entertain dictator Kim John-Un for his birthday.

Rodman was grilled on why he won't bring up human rights abuses and prison camps with the dictator since he's the only American with access.

Teachers Suspended For Alleged Racism

Rupaul Racist accusations are being tossed at three white Los Angeles area teachers who passed out pictures of RuPaul, OJ SImpson and Dennis Rodman for students to carry in a Black History Month parade. From USA Today:

"A district spokeswoman said the teachers at Wadsworth Elementary School, where the majority of the students are Latino, could have made more appropriate choices, such as Oprah Winfrey. Civil rights activists said the choices made a mockery of black history and reinforced racial stereotypes. 'Their selection goes beyond ignorance. It speaks to arrogance and racism,' said Rev. Eric Lee, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of greater Los Angeles."

The three teachers have been suspended and are currently under investigation.

The one positive thing about this incident? It should give RuPaul some decent publicity for season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Trump Presents Gayest Celebrity Apprentice Ever

Apprentice1

Anybody else catch the gayest Celebrity Apprentice ever on Monday night? The show's competition was about hospitality and producers packed the Loews Hotel full of rooms of demanding gay men (probably a good strategy) and Joan Rivers seemed absolutely high off of it. That, or the sugar from the cookies she jammed into her purse.

Apprentice3 One of the rooms featured a trio of gay men (which included actor and OUT columnist Jesse Archer) who apparently spent the night having some sort of three-way as they were pictured in the morning hanging out in the same bed in bathrobes. I knew two of the other gay men, the ones who went off with Rodman for dinner. Producers gave the various guests $1,000 in spending money.

The show also featured some Herschel Walker (above) and Dennis Rodman beefcake, although Rodman's strip came at the end of a frustrated day fueled by his alcohol abuse. That issue became the focus of the episode, ultimately a big downer for everyone.

Boardroom (SPOILERS), AFTER THE JUMP...
