Heinz Deli Mayo Ad Pulled in UK

Heinzkiss_2

So much for progress. The Heinz Deli Mayo ad featuring a "mum" who was replaced by a New York Deli Chef as well as a gay kiss has been pulled from the airwaves in the UK after receiving more than 200 complaints:

"The Heinz Deli Mayo ad has been pulled after less than a week on air after viewers complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that it was 'offensive' and 'inappropriate to see two men kissing'. Other complaints include that the ad was 'unsuitable to be seen by children' and that it raised the difficult problem of parents having to discuss the issue of same-sex relationships with younger viewers. 'It is our policy to listen to consumers. We recognise that some consumers raised concerns over the content of the ad and this prompted our decision to withdraw it,' said Nigel Dickie, director of corporate affairs for Heinz UK."

It's just horrible to see two grown men in a nurturing environment who obviously care for one another, showing the proper way to bring up children.

The ad, if you missed it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Gay Flamingos Adopt Abandoned Chick in Britain

A pair of Flamingos in a long-term relationship in Britain have become the surrogate parents to an abandoned chick, news outlets reported today.

Gay_flamingos"Carlos and Fernando had been desperate to start a family, even chasing other flamingos from their nests to take over their eggs at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge near Bristol. But their egg-sitting prowess made them the top choice for taking an unhatched egg under their wings when one of the Greater Flamingo nests was abandoned. The couple, together for six years, can feed chicks by producing milk in their throats."

This isn't the first time we've heard of Carlos and Fernando! They made headlines last year for their cradle-robbing habits. At that time, the wildlife sanctuary noted that the pair is not harassed because of their sexuality: "They are not picked on by the other birds. If anything they are afforded more respect because two males together can be a pretty fearsome prospect for the other flamingos."

You better believe it!
