While serving as Commander in Chief, Barack Obama would have to find ways to secretly and safely meet with his wife and children since if anyone knew he had a same sex family he would lose his job and all his benefits. In some cases, they could impeach him for having a same sex relationship."

SF Mayor Gavin Newsom Calls DOMA Brief 'A Big Mistake'

Prior to the start of the Los Angeles Pride parade which happened this weekend, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa both expressed concern over the disturbing Department of Justice brief filed last week in defense of DOMA.

Villaraigosa_newsom Said Villaraigosa: "I'm concerned about some of the arguments being made by the Justice Department."

Added Newsom: "I think it's a big mistake."

The L.A. Times reports: "Newsom and Villaraigosa, potential rivals in next year's Democratic primary for governor, were both careful to avoid direct criticism of President Obama, who pledged during his campaign for the White House to repeal the marriage law."

Schwarzenegger to Leno on Prop 8: 'It's Going to Be Overturned'

Arnold

Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared on The Tonight Show last night and Leno asked him about Prop 8. The man who vetoed Harvey Milk Day couldn't have been more void of passion about the whole thing:

"This is not over," he said. "This decision, because I think in a year or two they will be back with another initiative. Eventually it's going to be overturned. I'm sure of that."

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Meanwhile, the man who would have Arnie's job (hopefully), took a "calm, firm, and resolute" approach to the ruling this time around, taking one-on-ones with reporters: "'We just feel one-on-one offered the best opportunity to get our message out,' said mayoral spokesman Nathan Ballard. The sit-downs also guaranteed that there would be no repeat of Newsom's infamous, growling declaration in the City Hall rotunda last year after the court legalized same-sex marriages that gay and lesbian weddings were 'gonna happen - whether you like it or not.'"

Gavin Newsom to Return $25K Contribution from Savage Family

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will return a $25,000 campaign contribution from Russell Weiner, CEO of Rockstar Energy Drinks and the son of homophobic racist radio host Michael Savage:

Savageweiner "...the move...comes after a progressive activist in San Francisco, Aaron Baldwin, asked the Newsom campaign to reject the May 11, 2009 contribution of $25,000 from Russell Weiner, the CEO of Rockstar Energy Drinks. The company which was founded in Nevada in 2001 promotes a popular energy beverage -- but is a family business, charges Baldwin. Janet Weiner, the wife of Savage -- real name, Michael Weiner -- is the chief financial officer for both Savage Productions and Rockstar, documents show. Baldwin told us he contacted Eric Jaye, the Newsom campaign consultant, to inform him of a campaign called "The Truth About Rockstar.'' He said 10,000 have already signed up on Facebook to now promote a boycott of the energy drink based on Savage's alleged links with the brand."

Savage told the SF Chronicle: "I had nothing to do with the founding or creation of Rockstar. These are my political enemies, trying to hurt me through my son. [It's a] McCarthyesque smear campaign.''

UK Home Secretary Jacqui Smith recently announced that Michael Savage was banned from entering the UK over his inflammatory, violence-inciting hate speech.

Exclusive: SF Mayor Gavin Newsom Asked Court to Delay Prop 8 Ruling

Confidential sources close to San Francisco City Hall told Towleroad's Corey Johnson that the California Supreme Court was prepared to release its opinion on Proposition 8 tomorrow, but decided to delay the ruling after a call from Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom"Newsom reached out to the Supreme Court and asked them to hold off releasing their decision so it did not coincide with the White Night riots," said our source.

As mentioned earlier, a ruling Thursday would have fallen on the 30th anniversary of the San Francisco riots, which were set off when the court handed down the most lenient decision possible (voluntary manslaughter) against Dan White for the murders of supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone. The ensuing riots in San Francisco on May 21, 1979 caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

UPDATE: Towleroad received this tip from a highly credible source who did the interview on the condition that they remain anonymous. We have been working to get additional sources.

Gavin Newsom's office has issued a release denying the story.

San Francisco Supervisor Bevan Dufty spoke with Towleroad late this afternoon, saying he doubted the claims. Said Dufty: "It is implausible if not impossible to imagine that the Mayor could reach out to the California Supreme Court. Any thinking person would know that he would be radioactive to the justices given his leadership on the issue. His father is a retired federal judge. The Mayor's courage on this issue is unimpeachable. He would not intrude in what we've been waiting for."
