Former President George H.W. Bush Serves as Witness to Gay Marriage in Maine: PHOTO

Former President George H.W. Bush served as an official witness at the marriage of Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen, the owners of a general store in Kennebunk, Maine, close to where the Bush family has a home.

Bush's rep. confirmed the news, which Clement and Thorgalsen posted on their Facebook page, writing: "Getting our marriage license witnessed!"

The WaPo reports:

In an email from their honeymoon in London, Clement told us they’ve known the former first couple for years and were thrilled they accepted the wedding invitation. Thinking about “how monumental this time is in our lives” and “how blessed we are to be in their lives,” they decided to ask them “to really personalize it for us” as witnesses.

“This is such a wonderful time for change in our legal system,” she added. “Who would be best to help us acknowledge the importance of our wedding as our friends and as the former leader of the free world. When they agreed to do so we just felt that it was the next acknowledgment of being ‘real and normal.’”

Clement and Thorgalsen have been together for 12 years.

Karl Rove: 'To This Day, I Have No Idea If My Father Was Gay

RoveIt's been reported for years that the man who Karl Rove grew up knowing as his father and later found out was actually his stepfather was gay. He has released a new book called "Courage and Consequences" (The Washington Post says about the work: "Rove has fashioned a portrait of the Bush presidency that aims to shape history in his boss's favor") he writes about his father's sexual orientation. An excerpt from the Post's review:

"He blasts journalists for raising the issue at all -- in his eyes it's purely a liberal gambit to criticize him for his views on homosexuality. Rove launches a well-honed rebuttal -- a skill learned long ago, no doubt, on the high school debate team -- that comes across as part analysis and part dismissal. 'Could Dad have been gay?' he asks, acknowledging that his stepfather had gay friends and volunteered at an AIDS project. 'To this day, I have no idea if my father was gay. And, frankly, I don't care. He was my father, with whom I had a wonderful relationship and whom I loved deeply.'"

Rove's father, Louis Rove, died of lung cancer in Palm Springs in 2004.

George Bush Sr. Heckled at Houston Restaurant

George H.W. Bush was heckled while dining at a restaurant in Houston.

Writes the heckler on YouTube: "As if a restaurant's shrine to a mass murderer and featured menu items in the name of the diabolical traitor to America weren't enough, George Bush Sr. himself arrived when I was eating lunch with friends. Although I'm aware of many of his countless crimes against humanity, my mind went blank when it came to speaking out. It's a wonderful thought for me to imagine these killers being scolded each and every time they appear in public."
