Activist Regrets Glitterbombing Romney, Discusses Incident: VIDEO

Peter Smith, a Democrat who attends the University of Colorado Denver, told Denver's CBS4 that he regrets glitterbombing Mitt Romney after a speech in early February.

Romney_ssHe also discusses the incident, which he said he did over Romney's stances on gay rights and his economic policies.

Smith said the plan to throw glitter on Romney on Feb. 7 was a spur-of-the-moment idea. He said he chose blue glitter because there’s “no other color he’d rather see on a Republican.”

“Would I do it again for the message and to protest him as an individual? Yes. Would I choose different means? Yes, definitely,” he said. “I should never had brought his security into question. That was my epic downfall and I’ll never do it again.”

Smith was fired from an internship at the Colorado senate for his actions. As for the other falllout:

Smith says he managed to work out an agreement with administrators at the University of Colorado Denver that led to no disciplinary action. In court he also ended up pleading guilty to disturbing the peace and the missile charge was dropped.

Student Faces Six Months in Jail, $1,000 Fine for Glittering Romney

Peter Smith, a University of Colorado Boulder student, has been charged over an attempted glittermbombing of Mitt Romney on Wednesday which was thwarted by the Secret Service.

Reuters reports:

Denver authorities detained Smith for questioning on Tuesday night, and he was cited on misdemeanor charges of creating a disturbance, throwing a missile and an unlawful act on school property, Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

Smith, who faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted, said he has no regrets about his protest.

Smith said he was protesting not only Romney's stance on same-sex marriage but his "general political philosophy" and added that agents questioned him about the act of glittering: "They just mentioned this act was an issue that they've been trying to deal with more and more."

Meanwhile, a D.C. optometrist is warning of the dangers posed by glitterbombing: “If it gets into the eyes, the best scenario is it can irritate, it can scratch. Worst scenario is it can actually create a cut. As the person blinks, it moves the glitter across the eye and can actually scratch the cornea.”

I've reposted the attempted glitterbombing, AFTER THE JUMP...

Romney Glitter-bombed Twice by Gay Activists: VIDEO

Yesterday I posted a couple clips of the aftermath of Mitt Romney's glitter-bombing incident in Minnesota. Now the activists' own video is online:

Rg2Nick Espinosa and Sam Richards yelled "Feel the rainbow" and "the 1% pays for hate, you're not welcome in our state!" as they showered Romney in rainbow colored glitter as he walked up to the stage, and again as he shook hands on his way out.

Romney completed the speech with a formidable amount of glitter sparkling in his hair and another Occupy Minneapolis member, Sam Richards added a second salvo of glitter just after Romney concluded his speech.

"The struggle against inequality in all its forms unites the 99%. Just as we stand against economic inequality, we stand against the inequality faced by those of us in the LGBT community," added Ben Egerman, an organizer of the action.

As you may recall, Espinosa is the activist behind past glitter-bombings of Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Marcus Bachmann's clinic.
