Want some piping hot Schadenfreude for breakfast? Well here it is...

Anti-gay activist and self-confessed hypocrite Grant Storms, made famous for his homophobic crusades during New Orleans' annual Southern Decadence event, has been convicted of obscenity after being caught masturbating in a public park.

From NOLA.com:

[Judge Ross LaDart] promptly found Storms guilty of the single count of obscenity. He sentenced Storms to three years of probation, citing no evidence of a criminal history.

LaDart also ordered Storms to be evaluated, apparently psychologically. The judge noted that in Storms' confession, he admitted that Feb. 25, 2011, the day he was arrested, was the third time that week that he masturbated in Lafreniere Park.

"Lafreniere Park is a public place," LaDart said in announcing the verdict. "Lafreniere Park is a place that was chosen by this defendant to engage in a history of masturbation."

Storms declined to testify. His attorneys, Brett Emmanuel and Donald Cashio, did not overtly deny their client masturbated in the park but argued he never exposed his penis. The exposure was a necessary element of the obscenity charge.

In his confession, Storms told Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Sgt. Kevin Balser he had taken a break from his grass cutting business to sip a beer in the park, where he said he became "horny." He said he put his hands into his underwear, but he never exposed himself.

Storms said previously he was looking for a "thrill' by taking care of his business in public.

Anti-gay pastor Grant Storms held a press conference today about his arrest at a public park for masturbating in front of children. Storms says he wasn't masturbating, he just had his hand down his pants!

Said Storms: "That Friday I was reclined in the chair in the van, and I had opened my pants and I had my hand in my underwear. I'm not a pedophile. I'm not a child molester, and I don't go exposing myself to children."

Storms also "apologized" for his purity marches and campaigns against gay people, specifically the New Orleans festival Southern Decadence.

Said Storms: "I ask people that if they can find it in their heart, to forgive me. Which for some... it is not going to be easy to do because I had been vicious at times in my condemnation of others. I apologize for that."

Anti-gay pastor Grant Storms, who was arrested yesterday for masturbating in a public park in front of children, held a press conference in which he was "tearful and apologetic", WDSU reports:

The Rev. Grant Storms called himself a "hypocrite" because of his Friday arrest on accusations of masturbating in a public park. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputies charged him with obscenity after two women claimed they saw him touching himself while watching children on the playground at Lafreniere Park.

Storms said in a news conference Tuesday that he was not watching the children, but he did have his hand in his pants. He apologized to those he has hurt, and he said he was sorry for targeting Decadence, an annual gay festival in the French Quarter.

According to WWL, "Storms told members of the media he is no longer connected with the church that once staged the protests against Southern Decadence, now running a lawn care business."

Storms said he was seeking help for a problem stemming from pornography, and said he was looking at some online about an hour before he went to the park to look at the children.

Anti-Gay Pastor Grant Storms Arrested for Masturbating in Public Park in Front of Children

The Reverend Grant Storms, a Christian fundamentalist pastor known for his campaigns against New Orleans' gay Southern Decadence festival, has been arrested for masturbating in a public park in front of children.

The Times-Picayune reports: Storms

Storms, 53, 2304 Green Acres Road, Metairie, was booked with obscenity, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report said.

Storms told deputies that he was merely having lunch at Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Blvd., in his van when he decided to relieve himself using a bottle instead of using the restroom, an incident report said.

But two witnesses said they say Storms through the open windows of his van masturbating himself while watching children on the playground, the report said.

The two women flagged down a park employee who notified the Sheriff's Office. The employee also detained Storms until deputies arrived.

Bond for Storms was orginially set at $5000 but he was released early because of overcrowding at the jail.

The Times-Picayune adds:

"Armed with bullhorns, Bibles and picket signs, Storms and a group of followers in 2003 protested against Southern Decadence, the gay three-day festival held over Labor Day weekend in the French Quarter. Storms' efforts prompted the New Orleans City Council to ban megaphones and other amplification devices."

Here's the article from 2003 about Storms' campaigns to end Southern Decadence, which included a Christian parade and 'purity' rally decrying the depravity:

Last year, Storms videotaped public sex acts on Bourbon Street and made the tape available to state legislators, hoping to bring an end to the celebration.

"There's no economic gain that justifies an orgy in the streets," Storms said. "That's all it is -- a three-day orgy in the streets."

In 2005 Storms sued gay rights group Action Wisconsin, claiming the group defamed him by saying that he advocated the murder of gays. He lost the lawsuit, a decision that was upheld by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Storms was then ordered to repay the group $87,000 in court costs.

The AP reported:

In 2003, Wisconsin Christians United invited him to speak at the International Conference on Homo-Fascism in Milwaukee.

Action Wisconsin obtained an audio recording of his speech and publicized remarks it said incited violence against gays. The group issued a press release saying Storms made sounds like gunfire, as if he were shooting gay people, and said, "God has delivered them into our hands. Boom boom boom ... there's twenty! Ca-ching! Glory, glory to god."

The press release also admonished a state senator for attending "a speech apparently advocating the murder of his own constituents."

[Storms' attorney] Donohoo claimed statements in the press release were false and defamatory.
