Gun Created with 3-D Printer Fires Its First Shot: VIDEO

Gun-

Last week, Forbes reported that Cody Wilson, a 25-year-old Universtity of Texas law student and founder of the non-profit group Defense Distributed, had created the world's first entirely 3-D printable handgun and planned to release the CAD blueprint files required to make it online.

GunWilson yesterday released a video of the gun being fired.

Forbes adds that Wilson's project has made him one of the most controversial figures in the 3-D printing community:

Once the file is online, anyone will be able to download and print the gun in the privacy of their garage, legally or not, with no serial number, background check, or other regulatory hurdles. “You can print a lethal device,” Wilson told me last summer. “It’s kind of scary, but that’s what we’re aiming to show.”

Since it was founded last August, Wilson’s group has sought to make as many components of a gun as possible into printable blueprints and to host those controversial files online, thwarting gun laws and blurring the lines between the regulation of firearms and information censorship. So far those pieces have included high capacity ammunition magazines for AR-15s and AK-47s, as well as an AR lower receiver, the body of that semi-automatic rifle to which off-the-shelf components like a stock and barrel can be attached.

Obama, Gabby Giffords Speak Out After Shameful Senate Inaction on Gun Control Legislation: VIDEO

Gun_obama

Didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but here's Obama's address in the Rose Garden after the shameful failure to pass gun control measures in the Senate.

Also, read Gabby Giffords powerful, angry piece in the NYT:

Some of the senators who voted against the background-check amendments have met with grieving parents whose children were murdered at Sandy Hook, in Newtown. Some of the senators who voted no have also looked into my eyes as I talked about my experience being shot in the head at point-blank range in suburban Tucson two years ago, and expressed sympathy for the 18 other people shot besides me, 6 of whom died. These senators have heard from their constituents — who polls show overwhelmingly favored expanding background checks. And still these senators decided to do nothing. Shame on them.

Rep. Louie Gohmert Opposes Gun Control Because Gay Marriage Leads to Polygamy, Sex with Animals

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), perhaps the House's loudest, nuttiest bigot, isn't letting that title get away from him.

GohmertHere's what he said when asked about his opposition to gun control legislation, Right Wing Watch reports:

In fact, I had this discussion with some wonderful, caring Democrats earlier this week on the issue of, well, they said "surely you could agree to limit the number of rounds in a magazine, couldn't you? How would that be problematic?"

...

And I pointed out, well, once you make it ten, then why would you draw the line at ten? What's wrong with nine? Or eleven? And the problem is once you draw that limit ; it's kind of like marriage when you say it's not a man and a woman any more, then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not somebody has a love for an animal?

There is no clear place to draw the line once you eliminate the traditional marriage and it's the same once you start putting limits on what guns can be used, then it's just really easy to have laws that make them all illegal.

Earlier in the discussion, Gohmert called on Christians to take a more active role in politics ... because otherwise their churches are going to be forced to hire cross-dressing Satan-worshipers.

Sarah Palin And Wayne LaPierre's CPAC One-Liners: VIDEO

Palincpac

Here, (largely) without comment, are remarks from two different though ideologically related people, Wayne LaPierre, the leader of the NRA who wants armed guards in America's schools, and Sarah Palin, the failed vice-presidential candidate and former Fox News lackey who likes shooting unarmed wolves from helicopters. The remarks were made one day apart at CPAC, the conservative conference wrapping up its final sessions this afternoon.

First, LaPierre's one-liner from his appearance yesterday: "The one thing a violent rapist deserves to face is a good woman with a gun." Counter violence with more violence, he says.

And from Palin, a bawdy, tacky comment about her and her husband, "He's got the rifle, I've got the rack." She then sucked on a Big Gulp because "Bloomberg isn't around."

Watch video of Palin's "rack" comment and footage of LaPierre's entire speech AFTER THE JUMP.

"For the study, a team of French researchers put nine pet dogs in front of two side-by-side computer screens that showed images of faces. In each pair of pictures, one showed a dog's face (various breeds and cross-breeds were featured) and the other showed non-dog animals, including cows, horses, cats, birds and humans... Over the course of dozens of trials, the dogs showed a preference for the dog faces, and they seemed to lump all dogs into the same category, regardless of whether they were looking at a Chihuahua or a mastiff, the researchers said."
