Hayden Christensen and Friend Brighten Up GQ Style Italy

Hayden

I'm not sure who's cuter on the spring/summer issue of GQ Style Italy photographed by Guy Aroch, but I think the pup wins out.

Hayden Christensen Knows You'll Still Wonder if He's Gay

Christensen

The Details article (accompanying the Steven Klein photos I posted yesterday) on Hayden Christensen is now online:

"And there are drawbacks [to fame], like people you don’t know starting to wonder whom you’re sleeping with—though Christensen’s been relatively lucky in this regard, mostly sidestepping invasive scrutiny. He’s been linked in the press, routinely and predictably, with whatever costar he’s currently filming with (Natalie Portman in Revenge of the Sith [he denies having dated her], Rachel Bilson in Jumpers), in the kinds of couplings that always carry a whiff of P.R. brimstone—and just as reliably dissolve shortly after opening weekend. He’s also, just as predictably, been the subject of speculation that he’s gay. He’s said on the record that he’s not. He’s also said he doesn’t mind people’s thinking he is. He knows they’ll talk either way."

Hayden Christensen Teleports to the Cover of Details

Hayden1

Hayden Christensen, whose sci-fi teleportation movie Jumper came in #1 at the box office this weekend, leaps onto the March cover of Details. The article is not yet online.

Hayden_coverAnd neither is Christensen's reported mockumentary: "Hayden Christensen filmed a drunken home movie with his 'Jumper' co-star Jamie Bell. The pair - who star as 'jumpers' who can teleport anywhere in the world in the new action film - were bored on a flight from Canada to Italy and decided to shoot their own 'mockumentary'. Hayden said: 'After a few beers we decided it would be fun to make a mockumentary of what it would be like for jumpers who couldn't jump having to travel on a plane and deal with the nuisances of regular transport. I have footage of Jamie reeking (sic) havoc in this airport and me poking fun at everyone on this plane. He has got an amazing sense of humour.'"

When we last checked in with Christensen he was gracing the cover of Vman, telling the magazine the he enjoyed having people speculate about his sexuality.

Hayden Christensen and the Gay Aesthetic

Haydenmeier

As a follow-up to last week's Hayden Christensen quote about folks speculating that he's gay, I thought I'd print the entire quote, just for the record.

Hayden tells Vman, when asked about why there's so much speculation about his sexuality: "To be honest, I think it's because I encourage it."

"Because it's fun, entertaining, and a bit of a joke. Because, who cares what people think? And because I think it's sort of cool. You see pictures of Bowie wearing eyeliner and looking a little effeminate—to me masculinity is the ability to flirt with the effeminate. I will do things that are a little less masculine. There's plenty of rumors about every actor everywhere being gay. When people catch a picture of Sienna [Miller] and me, they can speculate, and I don't do anything to dismiss the speculations because rumors are more fun than reality. The less people know about you as you, the more they believe you as a character. And I guess I was sort of setting myself up with Star Wars, as far as people not accepting me as other things, so I made a point of not doing much press, not letting people know much, just because it helps me as an actor. The people I catually relate to know what I am. I think eventually people will clue in because there's less I will be able to keep private, but I've been pretty good at it so far. So if they want to speculate that I'm gay, let them. Honestly, I enjoy it more when people speculate."

I also like this shot, taken from the balcony of one of the three Richard Meier residences on Manhattan's west side. I'm not sure what the chrome barbells signify, but perhaps the mysterious Jedi is pumping up for a walk down to the Christopher Street pier, New York's infamous (though much less seedy than it used to be) cruising spot. Pure speculation, for his enjoyment of course.

Hayden Christensen: Gay Rumors are "Fun"

HaydencMysterious Jedi Hayden Christensen tells Vman magazine that it's "fun" hearing about the rumors that suggest he is gay:

"'To me, masculinity is the ability to flirt with the effeminate.' Christensen also says rumours don’t bother him 'because it’s fun, entertaining and a bit of a joke.' He refused to divulge his sexual orientation and ambiguously said: 'People I relate to know who I am. When people catch a picture of Sienna [Miller] and me, they can speculate, and I don’t do anything. Rumours are more fun than reality.'"

Well, here you go then, Hayden. Have a blast!

News: T-Mobile, Johnny Depp, Superman, Cyndi Lauper...

road.jpg Following pressure from the anti-gay American Family Association, T-Mobile has pulled ads from two FX channel shows: "The move appears to be another victory for Wildmon's group, which has made a habit of going after advertisers in shows that offend its sensibilities. In the case of the two FX shows, the AFA has complained to advertisers supporting the programs that that the shows are 'over the edge in sex, violence and profanity.'"

road.jpg Too gay? Filmmaker Kevin Smith says Bryan Singer's Superman not gay enough: "You look at the X-Men movies and it's an allegory for what it's like to be gay, like, if you take the word 'mutant' out of that movie and stick 'gay' in, the movie still works. I was really looking forward to him doing the third one because it would be an out-and-out gay fantasia - I was hoping that the dude would go for a kind of Brokeback Mutant kind of movie, but he opted to do Superman. I thought he'd make a really gay Superman but he didn't; it was more JESUS' Superman... - a lot of Messianic poses and what not and I was hoping for a little more gay action."

Cyndi_lauper_1road.jpg Cyndi Lauper, Mayor Daley wrap up Chicago's Gay Games for crowd of 20,000+. Sun-Times: "The event belonged to one singer, however. The entire crowd was silent as a violinist, dressed as Abe Lincoln, began to play the opening notes of Cyndi Lauper's 'True Colors.' Proving she is still so unusual, Lauper entered barefoot from the dugout, dressed as the Statue of Liberty wrapped in the rainbow flag and carrying a torch. She ended the set by telling the crowd to 'stand tall and together pass the flame on.' It was the kind of high note you wish the games had begun with."

road.jpg Orlando Bloom on his Pirates co-star Johnny Depp: "He is always trying to kiss me. I'm like, 'No tongue!'"

road.jpg Gay soldiers live life of secrecy and isolation within the Canadian Forces. Soldier: "I am part of a same-sex common-law couple within the Canadian Forces, and after declaring common-law status, I found that my situation is very common across the Canadian Forces, although many couples prefer to remain in silence about their relationship and lifestyle. From personal experience, I know there are young soldiers who feel they don't belong, and there are no resources within the military community or the Family Resource Centre to reach out to them."

road.jpg Richard Hatch has been sent to a federal prison in Oklahoma while serving his 51-month sentence for failing to pay taxes on his $1 million Survivor winnings. Hatch Lawyer: "He should be in a camp. The camps are the most comfortable of the uncomfortable. They are still jails, but they get to see the sky and be outside. It's bad for Richard, who is an outdoor person."

road.jpg Chicago radio DJ told Jody Watley she was not to speak about the Gay Games during a radio interview, despite the fact she was in the city to perform at them.

road.jpg AfterElton profiles Rex Lee, who plays Jeremy Piven's assistant on Entourage: "Even now, I'm on this show, I play a gay character, I talk about being gay in real life. But I'm shocked at how many people don't get it. They're like ‘Hey! Bet you're really reeling in the women now that you're on this show!' And I'm like, ‘Do you live under a rock?'"
