The next issue of Butt (which I've posted about here before), the quarterly gay journal which is equal parts raunch and literary interviews, will feature Jake Shears hanging out with designer/photographer Hedi Slimane.

VMan Goes Quarterly, Flaunts New Faces

The new issue of VMan features Petey Wright, the winner of the VMan/Ford Models modeling contest, on its cover and contains a spread with Petey as well as AJ and Adam (below), the two runners up, inside, all shot by Hedi Slimane.

Incidentally, the magazine, which is on newsstands this week, has gone quarterly.

Finalists Announced for VMan/Ford Models Model Search

So, these are the three finalists for the VMan/ Ford Models model search.

One contestant laments: "Ultimately, though, the final decision of picking three finalists (from a pool of over 1000) came down to industry professionals. Let me just say that I am not bitter at their decision. It is what it is. And it is symptomatic of the fashion industry in this moment... supposedly. They picked three white boys from Ohio, Alabama and Tennessee, all in their teens, all 6'1"...My mother responded 'they all look like druggies' when shown their pictures. 'Crack, Meth and Budweiser' responded someone else. They all share a sort of scrawny muscular bad boy not intimidating types who could be spotted on a street corner in a hoodie, smoking a cigarette..."

Given the homogeneity of the finalists, and the cornucopia of beauty in these pages, one wonders why anybody might bother next time around.

The finalists are winging their way to L.A. for a shoot with Hedi Slimane this weekend.

In the Slimane segment, there's an interview with the designer by German artist Thomas Demand, and 10 collectible, poster-size photographs shot by Slimane. The photos are very personal ones, said Black: There are fashion shots, details from everyday life and abstract images. Slimane has been hands-on, in touch with the magazine's staff every day. "We're an eclectic title with so many disciplines of design — we decided to have three guest editors instead of one," said Black. Hedi Slimane, who based last season's Dior campaign on the "homoerotic and deeply romantic" porn-inspired works of Toronto artist Paul P, has begun to post similarly-styled photos in his online diary. Black and white work served up with a helping of angst.
