Watch: Inhofe Warns of 'Open Gay Activity' After DADT Repeal

Here's a clip of Senator James Inhofe's (R-OK) Values Voters Summit speech against gays in the military I posted about this morning.

Inhofe urged those who were listening to call their senators and tell them to vote against the DADT repeal.

"Your message is this. Vote 'no'. And if you vote 'yes' you are voting for open gay activity in the military and you're voting for abortions in our hospitals."

Regarding abortions, Inhofe is referring to a separate amendment that repeals the prohibition in the use of private funds to pay for abortion care in military hospitals.

Senator Inhofe Blasts 'Open Gays' in Military at Values Voters Summit

Senator James Inhofe, who gave a tedious and bigoted floor speech against DADT repeal earlier this week, just spoke at the Values Voters Summit (which you can watch LIVE here), and addressed DADT again.

Politico reports:

"I was an Army veteran, and I don’t have to tell any of the veterans in this room here the problems you’d have with open gays in the military," Inhofe told the audience at the Values Voter Summit Friday morning.

Inhofe didn't offer any more details, only declaring that the military is not the place to institute a "liberal agenda."

Inhofe used his speech to rally conservatives against overturning DADT.

"Your job is to call up these people and make sure they know what your message is ... and your message is to vote no," he said.

Watch: Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) Speaks Out Against 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal Amendment

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) speaks out against "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal amendment inclusion in the DoD Authorization bill.

(via good as you)

In May, Inhofe said that soldiers would be less willing to fight and die for their country if they knew the guy next to them in the foxhole was gay.

You may also recall in 2006, Inhofe gave another speech on the Senate floor, showing a family portrait and expressing pride that his family had never had a gay or a divorce:

"As you see here, and I think this is maybe the most important prop we’ll have during the entire debate, my wife and I have been married 47 years. We have 20 kids and grandkids. I’m really proud to say that in the recorded history of our family, we’ve never had a divorce or any kind of a homosexual relationship."

Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) on DADT Repeal: Soldiers Would be Unwilling to Fight and Die for Their Gay Comrades

Senator_inhofeSenator James Inhofe thinks all soldiers are as bigoted as he is, suggesting in an interview with the American Family Association yesterday that service members would be less willing to sacrifice — less willing to fight and die — if they knew "the guy in the next foxhole" was gay.

Said Inhofe: "For those of us...and I’m one of them...who have gone through the military, gone through basic training, and you stop and think... it just doesn’t make any sense. Second of all, it’s just not working. You have women, men, then you have a third group to deal with, and they’re not equipped to do that. And you know...you hear the stories all the time. A military guy...I happen to be Army, and Army and Marines always feel that when we’re out there, we’re not doing it for the flag or the country; we’re doing it for the guy in the next foxhole. And that would dramatically change that."

You may recall Inhofe as the senator whose family never had a gay or a divorce.

Enid, Oklahoma Politician Gary James Makes No Apologies for Bias

Gary James, an Enid, Oklahoma restaurant owner, who is running for a spot on the City Council, has come under scrutiny for his racist and homophobic remarks, and the policies at his establishment, the Chicaro Club.

Watch the news report, AFTER THE JUMP...

Garyjames_2Reports News 9: "James, who is also running for a spot on the Enid City Council, is keeping out what he calls 'trash' and 'people on welfare.' Earlier this week, he told the local paper anyone who wears a hat inside a building is gay, and will be asked to leave. James said he isn't homophobic or racist. He just refuses to allow anyone who makes him or his customers uneasy inside his business."

Last week, Enid News reported: "James reportedly has asked black people and people he believes are homosexual to leave his establishment. James said he has asked people to leave the bar, but it is not based on race or sexual orientation. However, he does have some strong words to describe those he won’t allow in his establishment, calling them 'trash' and 'faggots.' ... 'If a racist is someone who doesn’t like unproductive trash, then it’s true. I’m talking about white, black, brown or yellow. I don’t like unproductive people,' James said Monday. 'People who know me, know better.' He said he has never asked anyone to leave his club based solely on their race, and said he has asked many more white customers than black customers to leave because they caused a problem. He said he has asked customers to leave who are wearing clothes he does not approve of. 'I don’t like girlie men. I’m not fond of men with all kinds of metal in their face,' he said. 'My customers don’t want them around, and I don’t want them around. I don’t consider that racist. I have black friends, but they are productive. Guys who come in with their britches down to their knees won’t get served in my place.'"

Given this information and what we know about politics in Oklahoma, we think he's got a pretty good shot. The election is February 10. And by the way, Oklahoma does not prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation.
