Paul Ryan Tells 'Focus on the Family' He and Romney Will Block Equality for Gay People

Right Wing Watch has posted audio of a pledge from Paul Ryan to Focus on the Family president Jim Daly that the Romney-Ryan administration will fight gay equality.

P_ryanSays Ryan when asked his thoughts about marriage:

It’s the foundation for society and for family for thousands of years. First of all, Mitt Romney and I — I’ll just say it, it’s worth repeating — we believe marriage is between one man and one woman, that’s number one. Number two, you know where I come from we had one of those amendments in Wisconsin, I was a big supporter of it and we passed it like you say, where it’s put on the ballot it passes. The second point is, President Obama gave up defending the Defense of Marriage Act in the courts, I mean, not only is this decision to abandon this law the wrong decision, it passed in a bipartisan manner, it is very troubling because it undermines not only traditional marriage but it contradicts our system of government. It’s not the president’s job to pick and choose which laws he likes. A Romney administration will protect traditional marriage and the rule of law and we will provide the Defense of Marriage Act the proper defense in the courts that it deserves.

Not a surprise, obviously. Just a reminder.

Focus on the Family Responds to 'Regret' from TOMS Shoes Founder

Focus on the Family President Jim Daly responded to a statement yesterday from TOMS shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, distancing himself from the anti-gay, anti-choice Evangelical group, with a statement of their own to Christianity Today:

Blaketoms Said Daly, of the interview program on which Mycoskie appeared:

"By contract, TOMS has the right to block broadcast of the program. We hope they won't do that, but we have yet to hear directly from Blake or anyone at TOMS about this situation....Yes, we believe marriage is a sacred, lifetime union between one man and one woman. Yes, we advocate in the public policy arena for laws that uphold that truth. But the same Bible that tells us God's design and intent for marriage tells us all people are created in His image and are worthy of dignity and respect."

Daly added: "While we may disagree with those who spearheaded this effort to get TOMS to distance themselves from us, our desire is not so much to defeat them at the ballot box as it is to bring them closer to the heart of Jesus Christ -- the only hope any of us have for the forgiveness and overcoming of our sins."

And Christianity Today adds

Daly said Mycoskie's apology was an "unfortunate statement about the culture we live in, when an organization like ours is deemed unfit" over beliefs about marriage. “It's also a chilling statement about the future of the culture we live in," he said.

Haters playing the victim card once again.
