road.jpg Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis forbids liberal Catholic church from holding gay pride prayer service: "St. Joan of Arc Church in Minneapolis has held the event for several years in conjunction with the annual Twin Cities Pride Celebration. The archdiocese is instead suggesting that the church hold a "peace" service Wednesday with no mention of rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Archdiocese spokesman Dennis McGrath says the gay pride prayer service is inimical to the teachings of the Catholic church."

While several dozen activists have marched in the eastern city of Calcutta in recent years, these would be the first gay pride parades in New Delhi and Bangalore. Bhan said the activists want to raise awareness of the issues facing the gay community in India."

With all New York lawmakers' two-year terms ending in December, Republicans are defending their narrow 32-30 majority in the Senate, the party's last stronghold in state government. Democrats now hold the governor's post and dominate the Assembly by a 106-42 margin."

He then picked up a wrought-iron table and swung it at the victims, prosecutors said. Has Jodie Foster Split from 'Her Beautiful Cydney' of 14 Years?

Jodie_cydney

That's what the National Enquirer (I know) is reporting: "After 14 years together, the Silence of the Lambs actress has dumped Cydney Bernard. 'Jodie breaking up with Cydney is shocking,' said a Hollywood insider close to the star. 'Right now it’s the best kept secret in Hollywood, and it’s not just because Jodie is a legend and an intensely private person, either. Because she and Cydney have been together for so many years and have two children together, the potential fallout and legal wrangling from this split could be monumental.'"

In December, at the Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment breakfast, Foster came out publicly for the first time, thanking her "beautiful Cydney who stays with her through the rotten and the bliss"...

News: Eliot Spitzer, Robbie Williams, Florent, Geraldine Ferraro

road.jpg New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigns: "From those to whom much is given, much is expected. I have been given much: the love of my family, the faith and trust of the people of New York and the chance to lead this state. I am deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me. Over the course of my public life, I have insisted — I believe correctly — that people regardless of their position or power take responsibility for their conduct. I can and will ask no less of myself. For this reason, I am resigning from the office of governor."

The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won’t let that happen. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to make this a better world for my children and grandchildren. You have my deep admiration and respect. Gerry."

Florentroad.jpg NYC landmark restaurant Florent closing in June on Gay Pride: " When his lease on 69 Gansevoort St. expires on March 31, rent will increase from $6,000 a month to approximately $50,000, and it's unlikely a deal will be struck. Florent is currently battling his landlord in court over tax increases and is withholding rent as a result. The litigation also means he does not plan to simply pack up shop on the 31st. 'I talked to my lawyer and [the restaurant] will stay open for two or three months. I'd like to end on a high note and I think Gay Pride Day would be perfect.' That's June 29, in case you want to put it in your book. He also says he'd like to hold a writing contest - 'people could write their best story, the most insane story, of the restaurant' - with the winner receiving a dinner on the final night."

road.jpg John McCain still hanging on to anti-gay Pastor John Hagee: "I will say that he said that his words were taken out of context, he defends his position. I hope that maybe you’d give him a chance to respond. He says he has never been anti-Catholic, but I repudiate the words that create that impression."

road.jpg Mehdi Kazemi, the gay Iranian teen I posted about earlier in the week who faced deportation from The Netherlands back to the UK where he faced another possible deportation back to Iran, where he'd likely be executed, lost his asylum appeal in the Netherlands: " Tuesday's decision by the Council of State -- the highest administrative court in the Netherlands --means Kazemi could face deportation to Britain, which he fears will send him back to Iran. Council spokeswoman Daniela Tempelman said the council decided it must comply with the Dublin Regulation and return Kazemi to Britain. Video Watch how teenager has lost his right to remain. Under the Dublin Regulation, European Union member nations agree that an application for asylum submitted in any EU country would be handled by that country alone. The regulation seeks to ensures that an asylum seeker is not redirected from nation to nation simply because none will take responsibility."

Jodie Foster Thanks Her "Beautiful Cydney" in Award Speech

Foster

At the 16th annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast, which I mentioned earlier today referencing Travolta's quippy one-liner, Jodie Foster received the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, and in her acceptance speech thanked "my beautiful Cydney who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss."

While leadership certainly hasn't been her forte in this area, we'll accept it as her coming out.

And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that's when it came that we would adopt Bella. There's a complicated background to that, given that I never speak much about many things. One day maybe that story will be told. My mother has an adopted sister, so it's been part of our family, and I knew it would probably play out somewhere in mine. I didn't think it would happen so early, but it did."

When asked if she has any response, Foster says, 'Was that the one with the Popsicle sticks?' Her thin lips tighten into a calm half smile of reproach: 'No, I have no response.'"

road.jpg America's Next Top Candidate? Barack Obama to appear on The Tyra Banks Show on September 27.

Wolfgang_tillmansroad.jpg Photographer Wolfgang Tillmans out with massive new monograph, entitled Manual: "Tillmans, who won the prestigious Turner Prize in 2000, uses the edition to highlight his own experimental approach to photography. He combines photographs with paintings, texts and newspaper articles. Also offering insight into his process, the book shows how the artist displays pictures on long tables in his studio while he preparing for an exhibition or a publication."

road.jpg Chris Evans well-suited for GQ.

road.jpg The New York Times scrubs up on the Fort Lauderdale "Flush Naugle" campaign: "In an interview, Mr. Naugle — who described himself as 'extremely' conservative despite being a registered Democrat, like half the city’s registered voters — said he had received 4,000 e-mail messages in recent weeks, mostly supportive. A “climate of permissiveness” has developed in the city, he said, similar to when Fort Lauderdale was a magnet for rowdy spring breakers several decades ago. 'It has become kind of like the days of spring break,' he said, 'when we ended up clamping down because people were jumping off balconies and other things. We are kind of going in that direction with the gay tourism.'"

road.jpg Jodie Foster opens up to More magazine about the ring she wears and media scrutiny: "My life is my life. I'm not going to change my life for anybody. I don't have any problems with it. I just don't talk about my health, my dad, who I voted for or what I think of the death penalty, because that would be trivializing my life, selling it for a magazine. I don't have any problems with anybody reporting on my life. It's just that I'm not going to bring my family into that."

road.jpg New documentary looks at San Francisco's "Stonewall": It began on the first day of 1965, when a festive Mardi Gras costume ball was about to begin in the City at a rented venue on Polk Street called California Hall. The high-profile fundraising gala was to be a sort of coming out party for the city’s underground gay culture, with hopes, for the first time in history, to publicly reveal itself in a thoroughly respectable yet visibly queer and overtly political fashion. ...The police promised not to interfere with what was, in fact, a legal, private event held on private property. But that promise was quickly broken. As eyewitnesses on the film described the incident, no sooner did the party begin, than paddy wagons sealed off the streets around California Hall. SFPD officers armed with cameras and spotlights, as well as guns and batons, formed an intimidating gauntlet through which every partygoer had to pass, to be filmed and photographed upon arrival. The cops then entered the building without cause and without warrants."

Jodie Foster Gives Big to Prevent Gay Youth Suicide

Jodie_foster_3Jodie Foster has made a major financial donation to gay youth suicide prevention organization The Trevor Project following their announcement of a fundraising campaign to facilitate the operation of two 24-hour call centers. She made the donation in honor of her friend, producer Randy Stone, who died earlier this year at 48, AfterEllen reports. Stone produced Little Man Tate and the beloved short gay youth suicide film Trevor, after which the organization is named.

Said Foster: "I feel so lucky to have had a best friend like Randy Stone, the funniest guy I've ever known. He was talented, passionate, supportive, and as big as life. He brought all his beautiful energy to The Trevor Project, which has done such meaningful work on behalf of gay and questioning youths. The call center campaign's impact will continue the Trevor mission in Randy's honor just as he would have wanted. I am proud to continue my support of Trevor in memory of my dearest friend. He is missed."

According to the organization, Foster's gift is the largest it has ever received. Go Jodie!

This one-sheet is the official key art for Foster's upcoming Neil Jordan-directed film, The Brave One.
