The Men Of 'La Bare' Reveal What's Behind the 'Magic Mike' Fantasy

_DSC7996

With a sequel and a stage musical in development, we haven’t seen the last of Magic Mike. If you need another fix of rippling abs and gyrating hips in the meantime, look no further than La Bare, a new documentary directed and produced by Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello.

The film, which hit theaters this weekend, follows the dancers at a Dallas, Texas strip club. For those who have watched Magic Mike nearly as many times as I have, some elements of La Bare will feel very familiar. The costumes, the dance routines, even some of the characters of La Bare feel as if they were ripped from scenes of Magic Mike. [There’s a number with the guys (temporarily) in black raincoats with umbrellas, and La Bare’s elder statesman, Randy “Master Blaster” Ricks, bears more than a passing resemblance to Matthew McConaughey’s character, Dallas.]

In a case of life imitating art imitating life (Magic Mike was loosely based on Channing Tatum’s own stripper past), one dancer was inspired to audition to work at La Bare after seeing Tatum stripping on screen. He now goes by the stage name “Channing.”

“Watching how insane all the women went whenever Channing Tatum came up on stage, seeing how crazy they all got watching him was really inspiring,” La Bare’s Channing said.

We spoke to Channing and fellow dancer Axl about what they love about the job, what customers do that drives them crazy and how they interact with male customers. See what they had to say, AFTER THE JUMP…

'True Blood' RECAP - 'I Found You' [Spoilers]

Screen Shot 2014-06-30 at 7.06.31 AM

I want to begin this week by thanking the man or woman responsible for somehow sneaking in my Eric (Alexander Skarsgård)-Jason (Ryan Kwanten) slash-fiction into the True Blood writers’ room. It made no sense and was completely unnecessary (just a dream sequence), but I certainly wasn’t complaining.

In addition to that scene, there were enough holes in tonight’s episode (plotholes! get your mind out of the gutter!) to remind viewers that this is True Blood, after all, and it’s best not to think too hard about it.

Let's relive some of this week's insanity, AFTER THE JUMP ...

'True Blood' RECAP - 'Jesus Gonna Be Here' [Spoilers]

Tb2

BY BOBBY HANKINSON

Welcome back, True Blood! The seventh and final season of HBO's off-the-rails vampire horror soap opera featured a town under siege and at least one character death that's sure to bring a smile to the face of many viewers.

We can all agree that sometimes this show is a total pile of garbage, but tonight's premiere showed some promise. It's definitely not the taut thriller it was in its first season, but, so far, the show's chaos feels contained to the Hep V spread we saw introduced last season. Let's hope it can maintain its focus. Regardless, we'll be chronicling the good, the bad and the utterly ridiculous all season with our weekly recaps.

Get up to speed on what went down this week, and share your thoughts on the premiere, AFTER THE JUMP ...

Everything You Need To Know For The Return of 'True Blood'

HBO’s long-running vampire series True Blood is sort of like the little girl in that Longfellow poem: When it’s good, it’s very, very good, and when it’s bad it’s horrid.

After six wildly uneven seasons, the faeries, vampires, witches, mediums, shifters, werewolves and who-knows-what-else of Bon Temps are back for one last hurrah. The seventh and final season of the show premieres Sunday at 9 p.m.

Though True Blood hasn’t always maintained consistent quality, it’s at least stayed compulsively watchable. The perfect frothy summer viewing, it doesn’t shy away from gross-out horror, melodramatic romance or lots and lots of gratuitous sex. It’s amassed a sizable gay following not only because the central conceit positions vampires as a loose allegory for the LGBT community, but also for showcasing several same-sex couplings and enough hunky man-flesh to rival most Channing Tatum movies.

In case you need a refresher on True Blood’s myriad characters and storylines ahead of Sunday’s premiere, we’ve got a quick reminder of where we left some of our favorites, AFTER THE JUMP
