'American Horror Story: Coven' RECAP - 'Go To Hell' [Spoilers]

Well, that was a whopper of an episode, was it not? This week, we said goodbye to some huge characters, leading up to what's bound to be a blood-soaked finale.

We also got a sneak peek into the Seven Wonders: telekinesis, concilium (mind control), transmutation (teleportation), divination, vitalum vitalis (balancing life force), descensum (journeying into the afterlife) and pyrokinesis. We also learned that those who attempt the Seven Wonders risk killing themselves in the process, raising the stakes significantly for next week's finale.

With just one week left until we find out who will be the next Supreme, relive the latest developments for all our favorite witches, AFTER THE JUMP ...

'American Horror Story: Coven' RECAP - 'Protect The Coven' [Spoilers]

All the pieces are beginning to come together. With just two more episodes left this season, tonight's installment, "Protect The Coven," was really necessary to fold together some storylines and get all the players in place for the big finish.

Just because it was a set-up episode doesn't mean it didn't have its wonderful moment. It may have been only a brief exchange between Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) and Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) in tonight's episode, but boy was it a good one. I simply must remember to call someone a "dried-up, old Hot Pocket" at the very next opportunity. I know the world is filled with people who are deeply enamored whenever Taissa Farmiga and Evan Peters play star-crossed lovers, but I'll take Madison's caustic charm over doe-eyed Zoe any day. Let's hope Roberts returns for next season (which is taking place in the 1950s). Crotchless panties for everyone!

What's the state of the Coven heading into next week's penultimate episode? Find out, and share your thoughts, AFTER THE JUMP ...

'American Horror Story: Coven' RECAP - 'Head' [Spoilers]

I've spent a lot of time fawning over Jessica Lange's Fiona (well, at least when she's not being all mopey). However, if there's one takeaway from last night's action-packed mid-season finale, it's that Frances Conroy can teach a master class in completely owning a scene. Despite the episode's sizable body count, it's Myrtle's twisted dinner party that'll have folks talking. Not only because it was deliciously gruesome, but because Conroy commanded every moment, bouncing from giddy to vicious to cool to completely unhinged. The Coven will not be the same.

That's only one of last night's many, many big developments. As we head into a brief hiatus (new episodes resume Jan. 8), find out the state of the Coven before this season's final four episodes, AFTER THE JUMP ...

'American Horror Story: Coven' RECAP - 'The Sacred Taking' [Spoilers]

Welcome back! Here's hoping your Thanksgiving spread was better than Fiona's styrofoam and raisin stuffing. Since we last left our witches, Fiona (Jessica Lange)'s health has continued to deteriorate, but her relationship with the Axeman (Danny Huston) keeps blossoming. Her daughter Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) is fired up by the loss of Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) to the Voodoo Queen (Angela Bassett) and recommitted to uniting the coven under a new Supreme. Despite all her rage, LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) is still just a racist in a cage at Laveau's salon.

After spending the first few episodes unfurling these multiple storylines, tonight's episode, "The Sacred Taking," starts to bring some of our disparate plots together and forces our characters to make some pretty big decisions.

How will their choices play out? Read on to find out who lives, who dies, who's undead and who's lost their head, AFTER THE JUMP ...

'American Horror Story: Coven' RECAP - 'The Dead' [Spoilers]

Last week's episode may have left me wanting more Jessica Lange, but not necessarily the sad, drunk Lange we got this week. (Did we learn nothing from last season's miserable Asylum?) At least some of the other characters were able to add a little levity and maintain the camp factor that's made this season so special. This season's spate of new actors have fit seamlessly in with the rest of the Horror Story gang, perhaps even more successfully than Chloe Sevigny and James Cromwell did last season. There's a lot of soul behind Madison's and Queenie's snark, and Kathy Bates makes LaLaurie enough of a lovable doofus to almost forget the digusting atrocities she committed. Almost.

However, if any of Coven's new stars have embraced the over-the-top storytelling, it's Angela Bassett, whose Marie Laveau is played with a delicious wickedness that delicately walks the line between demonic and diva. Finally, someone who can truly go toe-to-toe with Lange. It's exciting to hear there's interest in Bassett and Bates returning for season four.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. There's still plenty of season three left to discuss. From Frankenstein boyfriends, to zombie witches and ghost killers, tonight's episode was all about how it ain't easy loving the undead.

Relive the twists and turns, AFTER THE JUMP ...

'American Horror Story: Coven' RECAP - 'Fearful Pranks Ensue' [Spoilers]

Was it just me, or was this week's episode a little Law and Order: Hex V.U.? The fourth episode of American Horror Story: Coven piled mysteries on top of mysteries, and unfolded like a courtroom drama sprinkled with fairy dust.

Frances Conroy stepped squarely into the spotlight for "Fearful Pranks Ensue," and she definitely proved she can stand toe-to-toe with the other series leads. By now we're starting to see the typical Ryan Murphy deluge of storylines begin to reveal themselves, but I'm much more on board to ride along with the crazy if it keeps delivering so many incredible performances. When these actresses face off with one another, the resulting energy is enough to make any ridiculous plotline compulsively watchable.

See how Conroy fared against the reigning Supreme and what else Halloween holds for the coven, AFTER THE JUMP ...
