Police Investigating Luka Rocco Magnotta's Whereabouts at Time Body Parts Were Found Under Hollywood Sign

The Canadian man who was caught in Berlin earlier this week after following an international manhunt linked to charges he murdered and dismembered his boyfriend and sent the parts in the mail, is being investigated in the case of Harvey Medellin, a gay man whose body parts were found near the Hollywood sign in a high-profile case last winter, The Independent reports:

Mugshot_magnottaThe Los Angeles police department is investigating the possibility that Luka Rocco Magnotta, who was the subject of an international manhunt, was involved in a gruesome murder and decapitation where the victim's hands and head were placed near the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.

The grisly discover of the body parts of retired airline worker Hervey Medellin was made by a woman walking her dog near the landmark in January.

Investigators says that it is unlikely that 29-year-old Magnotta, who was arrested in Germany this week, was involved in the Los Angeles murder case but are investigating his whereabouts at the time of the killing.

Canadian Porn Actor Killer Luka Magnotta Arrested in Berlin

Luka Magnotta, the Canadian porn star who has been the subject of an international manhunt over the past few days and is charged with murdering a man and sending his body parts to political parties in the mail, has been arrested in an internet cafe in Berlin, Canadian news outlets are reporting.

German police Chief-Supt. Stefan Rieldich told CBC News that Berlin authorities arrested Magnotta in an internet café Monday at 2 p.m. local time. "As far as I know he was arrested alone, and there was no struggle," Rieldich said. Magnotta is being held at the Berlin prison and is expected to be brought in front of a judge on Tuesday....

Montreal police said Magnotta left the city on an international flight on May 26. According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, Magnotta arrived in France at Paris's Roissy airport the same day. Interpol issued a notice about Magnotta to 190 countries on Thursday. Montreal police are calling it one of the largest manhunts in their history.

Police had been searching in France and earlier today there were reports that Magnotta may have fled Paris by bus.

Magnotta is suspected of dismembering 33-year-old Chinese student Jun Lin, who was studying in Montreal. Lin was reported missing on May 29th.

Magnotta appeared in gay adult films and disturbing videos in which kittens were killed. Last week, a rapid sequence of events unfolded in which the grisly crime scene was discovered in Magnotta's apartment, a human torso was located in the trash behind that apartment, and body parts, in including a foot sent to conservative party headquarters, began turning up in the mail.

Search For Suspected Killer Porn Star Goes Global

Luka-Magnotta-newThe young man pictured at right is Canadian porn-star turned international fugitive Luka Rocco Magnotta. As Andrew reported Thursday, Magnotta is suspected of dismembering his boyfriend, 33-year-old Chinese student Jun Lin, who was studying in Montreal. Magnotta is thought to have videotaped the killing, and to have attempted to mail Lin's body parts to the Liberal Party of Canada.

A recap, from CBCNews:

The Chinese consulate in Montreal said Jun Lin was from the city of Wuhan, in central China, and arrived in Montreal in July 2011 to study.

According to people who knew him in Montreal, Lin used Justin as a given name, and Patrick on his Facebook profile.

He was registered as an undergraduate student in engineering and computer science at Concordia University.

Lin had moved into a new Griffintown-area apartment with a roommate, on May 1.

He kept to himself and acted as any "nice guy" would, according to his superintendent, Fred Hedriana, who said "he looked like a gentleman."

His neighbour Tyson James told CBC that Lin played his music "pretty loud," but that, "It hasn't been happening in the last few days."

Lin was last seen by friends on May 24 and according to police was killed on May 24 or 25.

Lin's disappearance was reported to the Chinese consulate on the 29th, and the consulate in turn reported it to the police. That was the same day the grisly parcels were discovered en route to the Liberal Party, and a human torso was found in a trashheap in Montreal. After a "grisly" crime scene was discovered in Magnotta's apartment, police initiated a country-wide search for him.

But it seems Magnotta had already left the country by then, and now a "senior French police official" says he's "sure" Magnotta's hiding out in France. From CBCNews:

Interpol posted a picture and information on Montreal resident Magnotta on its website Thursday among a group of many international suspects wanted for crimes including homicide, kidnapping and organized crime.

Interpol's involvement came after Montreal police issued a worldwide warrant for first-degree murder.

Clues at the Montreal crime scene led police to expand their search abroad, police said on Wednesday.

"We found some evidence," said Lafrenière. "We found, also, a letter that was posted on a website making us believe he might be gone out of the country."

He said they were working with airport officials in Montreal as well, but wouldn't disclose any information they had provided.

"There is no country in the world that is not talking about him," Lafrenière said. "There’s a lot of heat on him. There’s a lot of pressure on him, so we believe that it’s going to be hard for him.”

Police Still Searching For Porn Actor Accused Of Grisly Dismemberment

MagnottaThis may be one of the more disturbing crime stories of the year: police in Canada are looking for a 29-year old man named Luka Rocco Magnotta whom they believe murdered and dismembered an acquaintance before sending the victim's hand and foot to various political officials.

The trail led to Magnotta, known for his work in gay adult films, after neighbors complained of a foul odor emanating from his apartment, where police reportedly found a "horrible" crime scene. They also discovered a human torso behind the building.

CBC provides some more background on the case:

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, suspect in the grisly slaying and dismemberment of a victim whose body parts were sent in the mail, including a foot sent in a package to Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa.

Police said Magnotta knew the person whose torso was found in a suitcase in a pile of garbage in Montreal on Tuesday, but they have yet to identify the victim.

Sources have told CBC News that police believe they have evidence of the suspect videotaping the killing and dismembering of the victim.

A hand was found in a package addressed to the Liberal Party of Canada at a Canada Post terminal before it could be delivered.

It has also been suggested that Magnotta participated in a video posted online that shows kittens being killed. Just hideous.
