Ahmadinejad: Homosexuality Is "Against The Human Spirit"

Ahmadinejad

Remember when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed a crowd at Columbia University in 2007 telling them the following ridiculous statement?

"In Iran, we don’t have homosexuals like in your country. We don’t have that in our country. In Iran, we do not have this phenomenon. I do not know who has told you that we have it."

Ahmadinejad is at it again, responding to the very justified backlash he received back then: "They asked me (at Columbia) why you crack down on homosexuals in Iran? I answered we don't have so many homosexuals in Iran because we believe this act is against the human spirit and humanity."

If you missed his speech in 2007 watch it, AFTER THE JUMP.

Newsweek Reporter Sentenced to Six Months in Jail For Photo of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 'Gay Kiss'

Ahmadinejad

Maziar Bahari, a Newsweek reporter who was jailed after covering the Iranian elections, subjected to a show trial, and after 180 days of imprisonment, released and allowed to leave the country, received a sentence in absentia of 13 years and six months, plus 74 lashes.

CNN's Fareed Zakaria reports that the 13 years and 74 lashes were for reporting on the clash between the Iranian military and protesters. The six months, he say, were for the photo you see above. A friend of Maziar's had posted it on his Facebook wall, and authorities said that Maziar was insulting Ahmadinejad by implying he is gay.

But, of course, there are no gays in Iran, at least according to Ahmadinejad.

Chaos in Iran After State-Reported 'Landslide' Ahmadinejad Election

Iran2

A reported 63% to 34% victory by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has sparked turmoil and rioting within Iran:

Iran "Tonight riot police in Tehran faced thousands of angry demonstrators shouting 'death to dictatorship' amid shock and confusion after the official result backed Ahmadinejad's claim to have won, made barely an hour after the polls closed on Friday night. The moderate Mir Hossein Mousavi, who had been widely expected to beat the controversial incumbent if there was a high turnout - or at least do well enough to trigger a second round - insisted he was the victor and appealed against the result to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader. 'I personally strongly protest the many obvious violations and I'm warning I will not surrender to this dangerous charade,' said Mousavi, a former prime minister. 'The result will jeopardise the pillars of the Islamic republic and establish tyranny.'"

Report: "It really is feeling like a coup."

Ahmadinejad World remains cautious: "Ahmadinejad's announced landslide victory over his reformist opponent, Mir Hossein Mousavi, in a tumultuous election marred by allegations of widespread fraud, 'will increase American pressure' to engage Iran diplomatically, said Eyal Zisser, an analyst with the Tel Aviv-based Moshe Dayan Center. Alluding to opposition allegations that the outcome was rigged, and clashes that erupted across Iran after Ahmadinejad's government declared him the victor, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said she hoped the outcome reflects the 'genuine will and desire' of Iranian voters."

road.jpg Hate crime charges filed against Tacoma man for threats against woman in Seattle: "Prosecutors assert that Salway threatened to stab her in the eyes before asking 'did you hear me lesbian?' The woman told him to leave, drawing more threats from Salway. 'I'm going to hurt you lesbian,' Salway said, according to the woman's statements to police. 'Lesbian, I'm going to get you.' Fearing for her life, the woman ran from Salway as he gave chase. She and several other witnesses phoned police, who arrested Salway minutes later."

The painting has an X-ray-like quality to it, as if it is revealing something about the structure of the objects painted."

road.jpg Rights for same-sex couples expand in Colombia: "The high court ordered changes to 42 norms that range from Criminal, Civil and Disciplinary Codes, to the special health plan available to military forces. The Magistrates embraced a position paper submitted by their peer, Rodrigo Escobar Gil. They ruled that the challenged dispositions did not justify the discrimination they instituted, or that the variances with regards to same-sex couples placed these people in a position of vulnerability before the law. And in both cases, the Constitutional Court held that the right to equality was violated."

Cranroad.jpg Vancouver gay man's killer up for parole: "Cran, now 27, was one of three people convicted in the killing. The attackers used a golf club, pool cues and baseball bats at Second Beach in Stanley Park to kill [Aaron] Webster near the entrance to the park's gay cruising trails. At Cran's trial, witnesses —including two of his accomplices who can't be named because they were under 18 when the incident took place —told BC Supreme Court Justice Mary Humphries the group had gone to the park to beat up 'peeping toms and voyeurs.' Instead, they found Webster, naked except for his shoes. They pursued him through the park to his car, striking him with weapons while they ran."

The alleged infidelities have been going on in Omaruru for some time, but ELCRN’s head office failed to take action as they had inadequate evidence to prove that Tjongarero is in fact gay. Recently however, a worshipper of his congregation allegedly caught Tjongarero with his pants down, reportedly having sex with a young male member of the church choir."

road.jpg Obama drafting letter to Iran's Ahmadinejad: "Diplomats said Obama's letter would be a symbolic gesture to mark a change in tone from the hostile one adopted by the Bush administration, which portrayed Iran as part of an 'axis of evil'. It would be intended to allay the suspicions of Iran's leaders and pave the way for Obama to engage them directly, a break with past policy. State department officials have composed at least three drafts of the letter, which gives assurances that Washington does not want to overthrow the Islamic regime, but merely seeks a change in its behaviour. The letter would be addressed to the Iranian people and sent directly to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, or released as an open letter."

Iran President Ahmadinejad Compares Gays to Traffic Offenders

Ahmadinejad

After a speech in which he declared "Zionist murderers" to have undue influence over American and European interests, and said the "American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road, and its next rulers must limit their interference to their own borders," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad talked to Larry King on a variety of topics. See the interview in six parts here.

King asked Ahmadinejad about his statement last year, "In Iran, we don't have homosexuals."

After declaring that homosexuality is "against human principles," Ahmadinejad responded that those who violate the country's laws against homosexuality are like traffic violations in America: "The law is the law. It's law. And it must be enforced, of course."

Ahmadinejad also declared that he has no interest in how people behave in their own homes.

Traffic offenders in America, however, aren't rounded up and hanged in public.
