The council, whose Web site is slated to go live this month, is a collaboration between LGBT and straight groups that work on human rights internationally. 'Its purpose is to make the United States government and the State Department stand up for global LGBT human rights,' explained Guest..."

road.jpg McCain cancels Habitat for Humanity event: because it has to do with houses? And that is boring and a problem, particularly because it shows the lie of calling something a gay community when the "community" isn't actually one, and it's not one because there's the rich gays and the poor gays and never shall they meet except on Craigslist."

That drew an immediate rebuke from McGreevey lawyer Steve Haller, who said, 'we will appeal or not appeal at our own discretion.' road.jpg REVERSE: Distant object found orbiting sun backwards. "An object in the icy Kuiper belt has been found orbiting the Sun backwards, compared to most other objects in the solar system. It may help explain the origin of an enigmatic family of comets typified by Comet Halley. The new object, called 2008 KV42, lies in the Kuiper belt, a ring of icy bodies beyond Neptune. Its orbit is inclined 103.5° to the plane of the Earth's orbit, or ecliptic. That means that as it orbits the Sun, it actually travels in the opposite direction as the planets."

News: Al Reynolds, Playboy, The Mole, 90210, Ohio University

road.jpg Obama VP nomination hint?

Alreynoldsroad.jpg Al Reynolds Jr. unloads in long MySpace rant: "...I have been called a gigolo, a freeloader, unemployed, a sham and many other things that don’t bear repeating. People on television, radio and the internet have spoken disparagingly of my life, my sexuality, my career and my integrity..."

road.jpg Your first look at the cast of the 90210 spin-off.

road.jpg Ohio University freshman kicked out by roommates before even arriving, because he's gay: "That was when I found out their real motivation. 'Listen, we do not have a friend moving in. We were just trying to be nice; we both just feel really uncomfortable living with a homosexual.' Now what am I to do? I can’t leave because I’m not allowed, and I can’t stay because I fear for my own safety. I’ve been talking back and forth with them and they feel that I am obligated to leave because of their discomfort. I wonder if they realize mine — especially when I read their statuses on Facebook declaring X is a homophobe at 8:58 p.m., and X hates faggots at 9:21 p.m."

road.jpg Pastor John Hagee apologizes for anti-Catholic statements. McCain calls the action "laudable." What about his anti-gay statements? Oh yea, nonsense.

road.jpg Joaquin Phoenix recording an album.

road.jpg California high school teacher inadvertently displays gay porn to class during Adobe Photoshop demonstration: "The incident happened during a project in a computer graphic arts class Monday morning, according to several students. The impression was the image was accidentally projected during a lesson on how to use Adobe Photoshop. As the image remained on the screen four to five seconds, several students say it sent the teacher scrambling to quickly take it off the screen."

Playboyroad.jpg Playboy to enter gay market with cable VOD channel: "Playboy plans to initially offer Time Warner Cable subscribers 20 hours of gay male programming. The service is slated to begin operating next month. Although the Playboy brand has been linked with heterosexual men’s entertainment since its magazine's first issue in 1953, the company now describes itself more generally as "valuing sexiness and style" and is seeking more ways to diversify and boost its revenue."

road.jpg Girls love gay male porn.

road.jpg NYT features Barney Frank's best one-liners: “So, apparently, same-sex marriage is the V8 juice of America.”

Bobbyroad.jpg Meet The Mole's gay competitor, 25-year-old restaurant manager Bobby.

road.jpg Sean Penn heads up Cannes Film Festival jury.

road.jpg Michael Moore making sequel to Fahrenheit 9/11: "Sequel will pick up where "Fahrenheit 9/11" left off. In the time since, Bush's popularity has plummeted, while the Iraq war continues and the economy falters."

road.jpg STUDY: Music influences perception of wine. "Heavy rock music like Jimi Hendrix or The Rolling Stones is a good accompaniment to a Cabernet Sauvignon, while opera buffs might prefer a 2006 Syrah, said the study by psychologists at a British university. The research, in collaboration with a Chilean wine producer, indicates that different types of music stimulate different parts of the brain, and prime us to taste wines in a corresponding way. For example when a powerful piece of music such as Carmina Burana is heard, a Cabernet Sauvignon is perceived as being 60 per cent more powerful, rich and robust than when no music is heard."

road.jpg Gay Peace Corps. volunteer on being gay and in Mozambique.

road.jpg The story behind news anchor Sue Simmons' "what the fuck" outburst: "Maybe that will teach Chuck to stop reading things on his computer monitor and start paying attention to Sue. It looked like a spat between two people who have worked together for so long that they know each other’s rhythms a little too well. And, of course, they have worked together, for ages — or at least since 1980. There was Chuck Scarborough, reading something on a computer screen embedded in the desk and not listening to his co-anchor, Sue Simmons. So she let him have it in what sounded like mock derision."

News: Polar Bears, Jennifer Hudson, Tron, Sicko, Gay Referee

road.jpg FOX pans Alan Ball film Nothing is Private for its "graphic sexual, mental and physical child abuse": "If Ball, who regularly toyed with conventions in his TV show and in American Beauty, thought all this would somehow illuminate the tragedy of child abuse, he was wrong. Too much is shown and too many lines are crossed for Nothing Is Private ever to be released by a major studio or distribution company to theatres. If nothing else, the endless 'ick' factor involving nearly every character is a permanent obstacle."

Tronroad.jpg 80's cult classic TRON to get sequel: "The original, about a computer programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects. It was the first movie to use computer-generated images instead of models and other optical effects in conjunction with live action. The arcade game based on the movie was so popular that it earned more than the movie."

road.jpg In a victory for Evangelical Christians, a judge in Northern Ireland has struck down portions of the UK's Sexual Orientation Regulations protecting LGB people from harassment when accessing goods and services.

road.jpg Mitt Romney assumes the anti-gay position. And the accompanying article: "Mr. Romney bristles when he is accused of shifting on the issue, as he has on abortion, pointing out that he has been consistent in personally opposing both marriage and civil unions between people of the same sex. On the stump, he usually makes a point of saying that he opposes discrimination against gays. But he refrains from details when pressed as to how he might fight it."

road.jpg Jennifer Hudson signs on to Sex and the City movie as Carrie Bradshaw's assistant.

road.jpg Gay referee Nigel Owens takes place officiating at Rugby World Cup.

road.jpg At $24.2 million domestic, Michael Moore's Sicko is now third-highest grossing documentary of all time, behind Fahrenheit 9/11 and March of the Penguins.

road.jpg Indian construction worker in Dubai gets 25 years for bludgeoning lover to death with a rock: "The Dubai Court of Appeal increased the 15 years initial sentence of 23-year-old Indian named only as B.A to 25 years, which is life imprisonment here. The appeal's court also awarded him an additional month in jail for consuming liquor. He will be deported after serving his term. The Public Prosecution charged the Indian with consuming liquor and murdering his compatriot, identified as S.D. According to a Yemeni policeman, who questioned B.A., the accused was having a homosexual affair with the deceased. An Indian witness said he saw B.A. committing the crime when he woke up after hearing a commotion in the room at a construction site."

Chris Matthews notes: "I wonder if that wasn’t a moment that’s gonna change American political history."

Doubt that, but I'm glad the issue continues to be raised.

News: Gorillas, Lindsay Lohan, Michael Moore, Disney, Matt Damon

road.jpg Eric Hainstock trial begins in Wisconsin. Hainstock is the 16-year-old Wisconsin boy who last year (at age 15) armed himself, entered his high school, and shot his high school principal John Klang three times. The homicide has gained attention because it came after what Hainstock claims were years of abuse at the hands of his family and repeating bullying at school, harassment which school officials continually refused to recognize. In May, Hainstock entered a plea of not guilty.

road.jpg New study links pot smoking to mental illness: "People who smoke marijuana daily or weekly double their risk of developing a psychotic illness over their lifetime, according to a study published Thursday. Among all cannabis users, including sporadic experimenters and habitual users, the lifetime risk of psychotic illness increased by 40%, the report said. 'It's not as if you smoke a joint and you're going to go crazy,' said Richard Rawson, who directs the Integrated Substance Abuse Program at UCLA and was not involved in the study. But he cautioned: 'It's definitely not a good idea to use heavy amounts of marijuana.'"

Gorillasroad.jpg SICK: Four mountain gorillas slaughtered in the Democratic Republic of Congo as revenge killings in inter-personal feud...between humans. "The gorillas were habituated to people and well-known to tourists and park guards who knew the females as ‘Safari’, ‘Neeza’, and ‘Mburanumwe’. The male silverback was known as ‘Rugendo’ and he was the alpha male who fulfilled a leadership role within a group. In the absence of an alpha male, the integrity of a group is often compromised."

road.jpg Audience erupts in laughter as Lindsay Lohan is hit in face with shovel at screening of new movie I Know Who Killed Me.

road.jpg UK Channel 4's gay bashing drama Clapham Junction hits sour note for some: "I tuned in expecting a gritty, hard-hitting drama but instead found a clichéd, relentlessly negative piece that portrayed gay men as selfish, morally bankrupt human beings. Even what was supposed to be a happy storyline - the civil partnership of a long-together couple - had to be spoiled by one of them getting off with someone else at the wedding. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want it to be a rose tinted view of gay life but the sheer grinding bleakness of the piece astounded me."

Sandlerroad.jpg Adam Sandler to return as hair stylist.

road.jpg Disney to eliminate cigarette smoking in some films: " Family movies from Disney, the first studio to make the pledge, won't show cigarette smoking, and executives will discourage scenes in Touchstone and Miramax productions, the Burbank, California-based company said today in a statement. Disney also will include anti-smoking advertisements on DVDs with films that have cigarette smoking and will ask theater owners to run the ads before showing those movies."

road.jpg It's been one year since Lance Bass came out and he's blogging about it: "If you are having trouble being yourself , and are scared to tell someone you are gay--- find that loyal friend, family member, or even hotline and tell someone. All it takes is to tell one person and the ball starts rolling. You will get great advice and and be so much happier. Or, if you have always wanted to ask that family member or friend if they were gay.. do it now.... in a very positive and private way , tell them it is ok and you will always be there no matter what. Sometimes its easier for someone to just flat out ask you. To bulid the courage to say it sometimes takes years."

They are actively ridiculed by the rest of Steubenville; a humiliating situation that doesn't deter their quest for all things Clay. They are victims of A.D.D., Ritalin, their misguided obsessions and their innocent longing for their elusive '15 minutes.' One of them pumps gas. One of them is home-schooled. One of them is a genius. And one of them is a basketball phenom who would rather be a Chippendales dancer."

road.jpg Author ponders an Earth without people: "According to Weisman, large parts of our physical infrastructure would begin to crumble almost immediately. Without street cleaners and road crews, our grand boulevards and superhighways would start to crack and buckle in a matter of months. Over the following decades many houses and office buildings would collapse, but some ordinary items would resist decay for an extraordinarily long time. Stainless-steel pots, for example, could last for millennia, especially if they were buried in the weed-covered mounds that used to be our kitchens. And certain common plastics might remain intact for hundreds of thousands of years; they would not break down until microbes evolved the ability to consume them."

road.jpg Coral Smith, former Real World housemate, comes out: "I’m definitely venturing toward my lesbian qualities. It’s been a long time coming. At that time, I was really unsure. Odumuye, the former manager of an insurance company, founded Alliance Rights on 2 July, 1999 after seeing friends, one of whom was a senior executive of a bank, sacked and harassed for being gay. In 2003, Alliance Rights Nigeria won a Breaker of Silence Award and in 2004 it was among the lesbian and gay organisations which, in a groundbreaking event for this deeply homophobic country, made the first-ever appearance at the country’s fourth national Aids conference in the capital, Abuja."
