President and Mrs. Obama Host White House Pride Reception: VIDEO

In case you missed the live feed earlier, the President Obama took time today to hold a reception in honor of LGBT Pride Month at the White House. The President spoke of how much has changed since this time last year, touting his administration’s achievements in the area of LGBT rights.

The President also took time to bid farewell to the White House Pastry Chef, Bill Yosses, who is gay and leaving the White House after 7 years. The President marveled at his baking prowess, wondering if perhaps he put crack in their pies, a notion that First Lady Michelle — as if seeing the potential headlines — quickly shot down: "There's no crack in our pies."

Watch the full reception (which begins in earnest at about the 15:45 mark), AFTER THE JUMP…

Michelle Obama Tweets Support to Michael Sam for Coming Out

Michelle Obama is among gay Missouri star Michael Sam's supporters.

Tweeted FLOTUS: M_sam

"You're an inspiration to all of us, @MikeSamFootball. We couldn't be prouder of your courage both on and off the field. -mo"

Sam replied: "@FLOTUS Thank you for your kind words, humbled by your support."

And predictions from bigoted, anonymous NFL execs we posted about this morning appear to be having some resonance in reality, SB Nation reports:

Nowhere did Sam slip further and faster down the rankings than he did at CBS Sports' NFLDraftScout.com, overseen by Rob Rang. He was the 10th-ranked defensive end on Sunday night. On Monday morning, the site had him as the 14th-ranked defensive end. The most noticeable fall came on the overall player rankings at CBS, where Sam went from 90th in the hours after he came out on Sunday night to 160th on Monday morning.

SB Nation adds:

One round or another, Michael Sam's going to the NFL, and like any player, his life off the field will be an afterthought for message boards and comment threads once he establishes himself on the field.

The Jackie Robinson comparisons are apt. Michael Sam is breaking down barriers for acceptance and equality. It's new territory for pro football and sports in general. But, sadly, there's nothing new about how he'll be treated by the NFL Draft analysis machine.

NOM Says Tim Tebow Deserves 'State of the Union' Invite More Than Jason Collins

Illustrating once again that NOM’s anti-gay animus extends beyond the marriage debate, the organization is now calling out President Obama for inviting openly gay NBA player Jason Collins to sit in the First Lady’s box at the State of the Union address tonight, saying in a blog post:

Jason collinsProfessional athletes are looked up to by many young people in America as heroes and role models. Sadly, sometimes they do not live up to the responsibility that comes with their fame to be good examples and upright, admirable citizens –

For what it's worth, in today's gay-affirming culture - where being gay or lesbian is celebrated constantly in the entertainment world and highlighted seemingly daily in the news - we don't think that "coming out" is particularly heroic.

We assume that Jason Collins has done some fine things as a person to better society and help those in need. We'd be more interested in learning of those efforts than in having his sexuality shoved at us by the man that Newsweek dubbed, "the first gay President."

NOM also listed off its own list of sports stars more deserving of the President’s invitation including Tim Tebow, Eli Manning, and Albert Pujols.
