Neil Patrick Harris to Star in Broadway Premiere of 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch'

Neil Patrick Harris is set to take on the title role in John Cameron Mitchell's 1998 musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch when it premieres on Broadway in Spring 2014, Playbill reports:

Tonys_nph"I am simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig's heels," Harris said in a statement. "It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role and I can't wait to begin the journey."

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a musical comedy about a fictional rock 'n' roll band fronted by a transgender singer. The production began Off Off-Broadway at Westbeth and then ran over two years at the Jane Street Theatre beginning in February 1998. The musical won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, and both John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask won Obies. Hedwig and the Angry Inch won a 1998 New York Magazine Award and Entertainment Weekly's "Soundtrack of the Year" Award.

David Binder and Jayne Baron Sherman are producing. 101 Productions, Ltd are the executive producers.


'The OUT List' from Timothy Greenfield-Sanders: TRAILER PREMIERE

On Thursday, June 27, HBO is premiering The OUT List, a film of intimate docu-portraits from photographer and director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders that follows in the vein of his well known projects About Face: Supermodels Then and Now, The Latino List and The Black List.

The film is a storytelling project in which Greenfield-Sanders's subjects, a diverse swath of well-known and lesser-known figures in the LGBT community, speak directly into the camera and divulge intimate tales of their careers, activism, and pride, as well as details of personal discrimination they've experienced and overcome.

Clarke Cooper, former NFL football player Wade Davis, Ellen Degeneres, ballroom performer Twiggy Pucci Garcon, Neil Patrick Harris, longtime activist Larry Kramer, transgender activist and People magazine editor Janet Mock, Cynthia Nixon, Suze Orman, NYC City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn, Jake Shears, Wanda Sykes, Dallas County sheriff Lupe Valdez, and Muslim educator Wazina Zondon.

Neil Patrick Harris to Host Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Harris has been officially announced as the host of this year's Tony Awards on June 9:

Nph"I'm very excited to be back hosting the Tony Awards at the legendary Radio City Music Hall. It'll be more impressive than ever - if my math is correct, it will be 267 times bigger than last year," said Neil Patrick Harris. "Oh, wait. No, that can't... hold on... carry the one... I'm awful at math. But rest assured, the show will rock!"
