Neil Patrick Harris Slated To Host Live NBC Variety Show

Neil Patrick Harris is continuing his campaign to bring back old school Hollywood charm with an American adaption of Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, a popular live British variety hour show. Between his recent role as Gone Girl’s Desi Collings, headlining in Hedwig, upcoming guest role on American Horror Story: Freakshow and hosting both the Tonys and the Emmys on multiple occasions, Harris has proven that he has the chops for this kind of entertainment

The program’s initial 10-episode run of will air on NBC, but the network is being tight-lipped about a specific release date or a name. What we do know is that the show will feature musical numbers, A-list guests, comedy, and mini game shows.

"Now that I've seen many seasons, my face hurts," Harris said in a statement about catching up on the British version of the show. "Nothing like this has been done before and its unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!"

'American Horror Story' Recruits Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka For 'Freak Show'

Neil Patrick Harris is a very busy man.

He wrapped his Tony Award-winning turn in Hedwig and the Angry Inch over the summer, was just announced as the host of next year's Academy Awards and can be currently seen in David Fincher's Gone Girl.

On top of that crowded schedule, he's now been confirmed to make an appearance on two upcoming episodes of American Horror Story: Freak Show. But this time, he's bringing husband David Burtka along with him.

TVLine reports:

Harris will appear in Freak Show‘s 11th and 12th episodes as a chameleon salesman, while Burtka will turn up in the season finale (Episode 13) in what I’m told is a sexy storyline with Jessica Lange’s batty chanteuse. Earlier this month, Horror Story puppetmaster Ryan Murphy — who invited AHS super-fan (and good friend) NPH on the show via Twitter back in August — told TVLine of Harris’ forthcoming Freak Show stint: “He had very specific ideas for what he wanted to do, and I had very specific ideas, so we’re working on melding those.” Murphy and Harris’ previous collaboration — a Season 1 episode of Glee — netted the How I Met Your Mother actor an Emmy for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

Look for their episodes of the FX series to air in January 2015.

Neil Patrick Harris Dishes on Gone Girl's Nude Sex Scene and His Teenage Three-Way Kiss: VIDEO

Neil Patrick Harris stopped by Conan last night to promote Gone Girl and his new Choose Your Own Autobiography.

On filming the movie's "extensive" sex scene:

Honestly I was more concerned with Rosamund Pike because we were having sex in the scene so I just wanted to make sure she, in her own state of disrobedness felt comfortable and didn't feel weird...and make sure no one really saw my wang.

Harris also shared a childhood story featured in his book about his older brother arranging to have him in a three-way kiss with two girls.

"In hindsight wierdly, using angles, both of their tongues were in my mouth but my tongue was between their I think it was super-fun for me and kind of disgusting for the two of them."

Neil Patrick Harris Says a Kiss from Burt Reynolds Helped Him Realize He Was Gay: VIDEO

In his new Choose Your Own Autobiography, Neil Patrick Harris writes about coming to an understanding that he was gay, and reveals that one of his 'aha' moments was on the set of the 1989 TV show B.L. Stryker, when he received a surprise kiss from the show's star Burt Reynolds.

Writes Harris in the book:

As a joke at the end of one take, Burt leans over and kisses you square on the mouth...The crew thinks this is very funny, but it makes you uncomfortable. Uncomfortable and, it will ultimately turn out, gay. Burt Reynolds' kiss makes you gay.

Harris appeared in one episode of the short-lived series. And thankfully (or not)  for us, the entire episode is on YouTube.

Neil Patrick Harris To Host Oscars For First Time: VIDEO

Neil Patrick Harris will host this year's Academy Awards ceremony on February 22nd. Though Harris has become a master of ceremonies extraordinaire in recent years, this will be his first stint helming the Oscars. Variety reports:

Harris has performed on the Academy Awards show, but this will be his first time as host. Harris has hosted the Tony Awards last year and Emmy in 2013 and 2009, so with Oscar, he is apparently going for the EGOT sweep of hosts. (All that remains is Grammy.) He is appearing in Fox’s B.O. hit “Gone Girl.” He has won four Emmys and this year took home a Tony for the lead role in the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
