Affenpinscher 'Banana Joe' is America's Top Dog: VIDEO

'Best in Show' at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show last night was Banana Joe, a monkey-faced Affenpinscher who beat out a Portuguese water dog, a Sheepdog, a Bichon Frise, an American foxhound, a fox terrier, and a wirehaired Pointer.

Last night's win was his first at Westminster, though he has won 86 other shows. He's now retiring, the NYT reports.

The 'Gay Dog' Has Been Saved

Good news! The Tennessee dog sent to be euthanized by its owner because he suspected it was "gay" has been adopted.

Writes Stephanie Fryns: "I am adopting this big boy first thing in the morning. He has Kristin Joy Duewerth who is going to help with cost as well as many others in the area. He will be neutered/ htwm tested/ and vetted. He will be temperament tested and then places in a rescue verified and approved home. Woof connections is pulling many pups tomorrow, wonderful!! They need help with vetting the ones they pull also. We are all working together ( Diane Butler , Susan Bell) to save all the babies on the euth list for tomorrow."

Man Suspects His Dog is 'Gay', Turns it Over to be Euthanized

In news related to the last post, Jackson, Tennessee shelter reports that a dog owner turned his dog over to be euthanized because he suspected the dog was gay.

Writes the shelter:

"This guy was signed over to RC, not bc he's mean or bc he tears things up, but because... His owner says he's gay! He hunched another male dog so his owner threw him away bc he refuses to have a "gay" dog! Even if that weren't the most assinine thing I've ever heard, its still discrimination! Don't let this gorgeous dog die bc his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He's in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!"

No update on the dog's fate, but if you're in Tennessee there are plenty of others at the same shelter that need attention as well.

Zachary Quinto's 'Dog Eat Dog': VIDEO

A short film based on the true story of Zachary Quinto's shelter dog adoption.

It originally began as a Kickstarter campaign and raised over $30K.

Said Quinto to USA Today: "Our goal was to make an entertaining short film inspired by my outlandishly humorous — but true — experience of trying to adopt a dog for the first time. But we also want to raise awareness about pet rescues and inspire people to rescue their new pet instead of buying one. There are so many beautiful dogs that need homes ... the heart of this story is how much joy — and humor — can exist in trying to find the right match."
