'Those will not be the Republican votes that I will get, but they will be there for other things that are important to the city,' Bloomberg said in an hour-long interview with Gay City News and its sister papers, The Villager, Downtown Express, and Chelsea Now.

Ryan Reynolds in a Tight Spot

Rynreynolds

Here's the first image from the indie thriller Buried, in which Ryan Reynolds plays a kidnapped civilian contractor buried in a coffin in the desert with just a knife, a candle, and a cell phone with a dwindling battery.

According to Reynolds, he's the only one in the entire film: "It's the only movie I've ever heard of with only one person in it. So it's just me, I'm the only person in the whole movie. It's either going to be the greatest, most experimental cool movie ever made or god knows what."

Movies: Ryan Reynolds, Frankenstein's Bride and Patricia Clarkson's Fierce Advocacy

Reynolds_naked

Guestblogger Would you be this upset if you accidentally collided with a naked Ryan Reynolds?

NATHANIEL ROGERS

Nathaniel Rogers would live inside a movie theater but for the poor internet reception. He blogs daily at the Film Experience.

Take One: Now Playing
Sandra Bullock is clearly overreacting. "Why are you naked?!?" she screams frantically skin on skin in THE PROPOSAL. Why ask 'why?', Sandra?

The Proposal opens on nearly 3,000 screens this weekend. It's Sandra Bullock's bid to recapture her RomCom throne. Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson and others been taking turns keeping the seat warm for her. If romantic comedies aren't your thing Jack Black and Michael Cera are working broad ancient yuks in YEAR ONE.

YearoneBut what are mainstream comedies without a little gay-baiting (sigh) so Year One has to have scenes set in Sodom that feature a queeny Oliver Platt who is anxious to get a little oily and freaky with Michael Cera.

For me this weekend is all about Woody Allen's latest WHATEVER WORKS. His career has been on quite an upswing of late. Two recent efforts Match Point (2005) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) turned out to be his most popular films since Hannah and Her Sisters won sizable audiences and a Best Picture nomination way back in 1986. If memory serves me correctly, this is Woody's first film with gay characters since Meryl Streep tore it up in Manhattan (1979) as an angry lesbian writing a tell-all about her ex husband. Among the couplings in the new film is a tripling: Patty Clarkson plays a bible-belter who shacks up with a gay couple in NYC.

Take Two: Bonus Scenes

Speaking of Patty. She's a major friend to the community. Just last week she was promising to get naked with Rachel Maddow in New Orleans.

Ryan Reynolds Gets Down to Skin for Entertainment Weekly

Ryan1

Ryan Reynolds fans will be happy to know that Entertainment Weekly has given him four goofy covers this week for its summer "Must List" issue.

"When asked if he's comfortable as a sex symbol, Reynolds sighs. 'If you take any of that seriously, you need to be euthanized, ASAP,' he says. 'There are moments when you can use that to your advantage. But it's really embarrassing. I think I fear more than anything just sounding like a complete a--hole when I have to answer that question.'"

Three more covers, AFTER THE JUMP...

Movies (and TV): Sam Worthington, Make Me a Supermodel, Glee

Samworthington

Guestblogger NATHANIEL ROGERS

Nathaniel Rogers would live inside a movie theater but for the poor internet reception. He blogs daily at the Film Experience.

Take One: Screen Test

If you're planning to see TERMINATOR SALVATION this weekend, I feel it my gay obligation to inform you that the movie takes place entirely in the future so there's no naked, crouching time traveling men. When the mysterious Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) makes his vaguely naked night time entrance into the franchise narrative, he's covered with mud AND some sort of jock strap. Weird. Apparently Skynet, that famously evil robotic corporation, has learned the value of human modesty since the glory days of the movie franchise.

As a Terminator nut, I can't say that the film holds up to the high standards set by parts one and two but as a stand alone actioner, it definitely has popcorn-munching moments. Whether or not the movie kills at the box office, the only way is up for Sam Worthington. If you're the only thing the audience can look at while Christian Bale is sharing the frame, you're on your way to super stardom. Later this year he'll romance Keira Knightley in Last Night and headline James Cameron's 3D sci-fi epic Avatar, the director's first big movie since Titanic twelve long years ago. By the end of the year Worthington will be a household name. And then he'll squeeze into a skirt for Clash of the Titans in 2010.

The 32 year old actor hails from Australia, a country which should probably just rename itself "Movie-Star Factory" at this point. Consider: Crowe, Jackman, Blanchett, Gibson, Ledger, Kidman, Bana,  etc....

Take Two: Deleted Scenes
