Shia LaBeouf 'Embarrassed' by Slap Video, Gay Slur
The clip I posted yesterday, which was circulated heavily around the internet, showing a presumably inebriated Shia LaBeouf taunting his friend to slap him by goading him on with, among other things, the word 'faggot', has been pulled from YouTube and LaBeouf has made a statement through his representative, E!'s Marc Malkin reports:
"The videotape that is currently being circulated is several years old and captures Shia playing a game among friends in which he uses a derogatory word toward a friend. He regrets having used the word in any capacity and is very embarrassed that this footage is being seen by anyone.”

Dutch gay couple have been foster parents to over 100 children.

Even though the death toll could exceed that of the southeast Asian tsunami, the Myanmar government has refused U.S. aid: "The junta not only wouldn't allow U.S. aid planes to fly in badly needed supplies, they also continued to refuse visas to United Nations relief teams trying to get in to make sure the aid gets to the victims. Despite the military clampdown, reports of the horrendous toll the storm was taking on Myanmar's people began trickling out."

The character was once a high school sports legend, and his luck returns when he figures out a way to use his best asset. 'Think of him like Spider-Man,' Burson told Daily Variety last month. 'He's an average guy who gets in touch with his innate superpowers.'"

Queercents has 10 money questions for DNC Treasurer Andrew Tobias. On political contributions: "Politics is tacky and all the awful things it is — but you can’t have democracy without politics, and politics requires money. That said, it’s wonderful how the balance of power is shifting away from the $500,000 and $5 million contributions (now illegal) — and even the $28,500 contributions (the current annual max to a federal political party like the DNC) — to the potential for millions of $10 and 25 and $100 and $250 contributions over the Internet."
Porn police pair on patrol at Seattle gay bars: "'We have judges, attorneys, police officers, who all come in here because it's a safe place for them,' said [Seattle Eagle manager Keith] Christiansen. 'This kind of attention [from the police] has cut my business in half.' Back in 1998, Christiansen says he went before the liquor board and asked for permission to display his posters. In spite of the law, he says, they let him do it. But because of an increase in enforcement in the area and, Christiansen says, the fact that O'Neill and Gallagher are new to the neighborhood, that era of tacit acceptance has ended. 'This is a whole new breed of people,' he said. 'They don't understand what the Hill is about.'"

Mr. Washington's attorney has contacted the Screen Actors Guild and ABC as to the appropriateness of that action."

News: Spy Satellite, Jack Mackenroth, Huckabee, Indiana Jones
Pentagon will shoot down disabled satellite before it poses danger to Earth: "U.S. officials said Thursday that the option preferred by the Bush administration will be to fire a missile from a U.S. Navy cruiser, and shoot down the satellite before it enters Earth's atmosphere. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the options will not be publicly discussed until a later Pentagon briefing. The disabled satellite is expected to hit the Earth the first week of March. Officials said the Navy would likely shoot it down before then, using a special missile modified for the task."

Obama's delegate lead shifts focus of Clinton campaign: "With every delegate precious, Mrs. Clinton’s advisers also made it clear that they were prepared to take a number of potentially incendiary steps to build up Mrs. Clinton’s count. Top among these, her aides said, is pressing for Democrats to seat the disputed delegations from Florida and Michigan, who held their primaries in January in defiance of Democratic Party rules."

Nick Yordi, former starting quarterback for Wartburg, College in Waverly, Iowa in court on disorderly conduct charge for anti-gay slur: "The trial was scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Bremer County Courthouse. Yordi has pleaded not guilty, and has played in two football games since his arrest." GLAAD: "According to the Wartburg Trumpet, Yordi was 'charged under a section of the Iowa Code that prohibits making abusive epithets or threatening gestures which are likely to provoke a violent reaction by another.' Wartburg College President Jack Ohle addressed the school Oct. 22 through e-mail and wrote, 'Understandably, matters that come within the college’s purview are dealt with immediately and privately with the parties affected through a prescribed process and according to the student handbook, honor code and the appropriate faculty and staff handbooks.'"

Project Runway's Jack Mackenroth talks to HIV+ magazine: "I think people have become apathetic--because you can see people like me. I look really good. I take really good care of my body. I think I look good for my age. And I certainly look good for someone who's been HIV-positive for going on 18 years. But don't let that fool you. Having HIV is still not fun. I have to take my pills wherever I go. It's still not a picnic. I run into people all the time who are like, 'Well, you don't look sick.' What the hell does that mean! That's so stupid! Young people now aren't educated like they used to be. I think it's really shocking. I had a partner die. He was 250 pounds! He was a huge, hulking guy. He never found a regimen that worked for him. He constantly had intestinal problems. We were out on Fire Island, and he said, 'I don't feel good.' We went back to New York, he checked into the hospital, and he was dead two weeks later."

Legislation floated that would allow same-sex married couples to divorce in Rhode Island: "The state's highest court ruled in a 3-2 decision in December that a lesbian couple who married in Massachusetts could not get divorced in their home state of Rhode Island. Retired lecturer Edward Dorall told a court in Penang state that columnist Thor Kah Hoong had libelled him by calling him a 'drama queen lecturer' in a 2004 article, the New Straits Times reported. News: Shia LaBeouf, Provincetown, Robert Frost, Mapplethorpe
Nominations for the Eighth Annual Weblog Awards (the 2008 bloggies) are now open. Now, we're not telling you who to nominate, but (wink, wink) there is a GLBT category!

Something for everyone: Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford deck out the new issue of Vanity Fair.
Hey big spender: Suze Orman closes on $3.6 million apartment in New York's refurbished Plaza Hotel.
Shake-up at ABC's Brothers and Sisters: Creator Jon Robin Baitz leaving the show? "Whether this truly is Baitz’s 'endgame' in television and the end of his work on Brothers & Sisters is not entirely clear. Earlier in the same post he seems to contradict himself by indicating some level of future involvement with the show he created: 'Now I look forward to writing the odd episode or three, and being useful as close-reader of the cosmology of the show when asked.' AfterElton.com contacted Baitz’s representation for a comment, but no reply was received (possibly due to the holidays)."
Jude Law sees ghost of Frank Sinatra crouched at his hotel's mini-bar.
United States of Pop: DJ Earworm presents a mash-up of Billboard's top 25 most popular songs in the U.S. last year.

Some say the world will end in fire: Poet Robert Frost's former home ransacked and burned at what police say was an underage drinking party. "The intruders broke a window to get into the two-story wood frame building — a furnished residence open in the summer — before destroying tables and chairs, pictures, windows, light fixtures, and dishes. Wicker furniture and dressers were smashed and thrown into a fireplace and burned, apparently to provide heat in the unheated building, he said. Empty beer bottles and cans, plastic cups, and cellophane apparently used to hold marijuana were also found, according to Hodsden. The vandals vomited in the living room and discharged two fire extinguishers inside the building, on a dead-end road off Route 125."
Former Brit boyband singer Lee Ryan arrested for assault on London taxi driver.

13 unsolved arson fires in the last 11 weeks have Provincetown on edge and part-time fire department working overtime: "The town's chief fire officer — part-time Chief Michael Trovato — is supposed to report to state authorities in writing within 48 hours any fire or explosion that results in loss of property. But those reports, called the Massachusetts Fire Incident Reports, have not been completed, based on several requests by the Times starting Dec. 11. The fire reports are usually available for public inspection and can serve as a foundation — the first responder's version — of a suspicious fire, said Hyannis Deputy Fire Chief Dean Melanson, who said he was not commenting specifically on Provincetown, and the state fire marshal's spokeswoman, Jennifer Mieth. Trovato said Thursday the reports have not been completed because the number of fires— and his part-time status — have made it tough to keep up with the paperwork. '"And because the fire chief is really exhausted and overwhelmed,' Trovato said, speaking of himself."

Top DNC officials subpoenaed in discrimination lawsuit: "Those ordered to provide sworn testimony include chairman Howard Dean, openly gay treasurer Andy Tobias, and Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council executive Director Brian Bond. The suit charges that a campaign of infighting, discrimination and retaliation led to the illegal firing of Hitchcock after his partner, former Clinton appointee Paul Yandura, criticized the Party for what he claimed was a lack of support for LGBT causes, especially on the issue of defeating anti-gay ballot measures."
Friend of gays Katherine Heigl gets hitched but where's the bridesman T.R. Knight?
Northern Ireland Gay Pride controversy reaches House of Commons: "Stormont Minister Nigel Dodds has thrown his weight behind DUP protests over a placard carried at the Belfast Pride event which read 'Jesus is a fag'. And Security Minister Paul Goggins has revealed that the Parades Commission is seeking a meeting with the march organisers following complaints about alleged breaches of its code. The DUP were outraged when one participant was seen carrying the controversial placard during the colourful August 4 event."
Book explores the "artlessness" of Mapplethorpe's Polaroids: "I thought if I could somehow bring that element into art, if I could retain that feeling, I would be doing something that was uniquely my own."

Gay historian Allan Berube dies at 61: "Berube is best remembered for his groundbreaking work of gay history, Coming Out Under Fire: The History of Gay Men and Women in World War II, published in 1990. The Lambda Literary Award–winning book was later adapted by Arthur Dong into a Peabody Award–winning documentary and was often cited in 1993 Senate hearings on the military’s ban on gay service members." One hundred million pennies laid out in Rockefeller Center in New York: "The exhibit, 30 feet by 165 feet, as long as a city block, is the culmination of the nonprofit organization Common Cents' 17th annual Penny Harvest, a national educational program designed to teach children about their value as contributors to society."
David Cooley, owner of West Hollywood's The Abbey bar and restaurant, ready to take it national: "Cooley intends to build Abbeys in cities across the country, and has spent much of the past year scouting locations including San Diego, Phoenix, Miami, New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Las Vegas; the plan is for the first new Abbey to open in Chicago within a year."

Scientists discover massive new Antarctic dinosaur: 25 feet long, climbed trees.
Humans evolving rapidly according to researchers: "Many of the recent genetic changes reflect differences in the human diet brought on by agriculture, as well as resistance to epidemic diseases that became mass killers following the growth of human civilizations, the researchers said. For example, Africans have new genes providing resistance to malaria. In Europeans, there is a gene that makes them better able to digest milk as adults. In Asians, there is a gene that makes ear wax more dry. The changes have been driven by the colossal growth in the human population -- from a few million to 6.5 billion in the past 10,000 years -- with people moving into new environments to which they needed to adapt, added Henry Harpending, a University of Utah anthropologist."
Ireland to ban incandescent light bulbs by the year 2009.

Shia LeBeouf gets off.
Sacha Baron Cohen obsessed with big packages: "Of the many surprises in Sweeney Todd, Tim Burton's musical ode to early-Victorian cannibalism, the appearance of Sacha Baron Cohen as barber rival Adolfo Pirelli is one of the most pleasant: The British comedian ably tackles the part's considerable vocal challenges, and cuts a fine figure in a form-fitting, periwinkle dandy suit, beneath which protrudes a bulge even more distractingly prominent than the one poking out of Borat's signature neon nutthong swimwear."
Former CIA interrogator on torture: "This isn’t something done willy nilly. It’s not something that an agency officer just wakes up in the morning and decides he’s going to carry out an enhanced technique on a prisoner. This was a policy made at the White House, with concurrence from the National Security Council and Justice Department."

News: Modernist House, Shia LaBeouf, Pig Beast, Writer's Strike
California wingnuts launch referendum bid to overturn sexual orientation discrimination law in schools: "The legislation, Senate Bill 777, was signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last month with little notice because the governor, at nearly the same time, vetoed the same-sex marriage bill. Conservative groups say the bill would require far-reaching changes in school curriculum and activities. 'This will mean either getting rid of mom and dad or adding a homosexual couple,' in a textbook, said Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Family Impact."

David Beckham gets himself caught up in the excitement of his Hollywood charity game for wildfire victims.
Giant "pig-like beast" discovered deep in Brazil's Amazon rainforest: "The newly named beast (Pecari maximus) was found in the basin of the Rio Aripuanã and confirmed to be a distinct species via a genetic analysis conducted by the Leiden Centre for Environmental Sciences in the Netherlands. Though new to science, locals already knew about the creature. Tupi Indians called it Caitetu Munde, which means 'great peccary which lives in pairs.'"
Shia LaBeouf arrested for refusing to leave a Chicago Walgreens. (mugshot)
Royal blackmailer Ian Strachan and accomplice are denied bail: " Lawyers representing Ian Strachan, 30, applied for bail at the Old Bailey but it was turned down by Mr Justice Gross. The hearing had been due to take place in private, but was opened to the press following legal representation by media groups. A previous application last week was adjourned after a few minutes because the lawyers needed more time to prepare. Strachan, who is in custody at Belmarsh prison, was not at the hearing." It was also recently revealed that Strachan's accomplice Sean McGuigan received funds from Prince Charles in 1993 to set up a car wash business: "He spent a £1,500 loan on buckets, sponges and cleaning fluid and a further £1,000 grant for other start-up costs for the firm Star Craft in Fulham, London."

Jake Gyllenhaal lashes out at paparazzo. If you've got the cash on hand, you can join him for lunch.
Retired Catholic bishop charged with repeated sexual assault on 42-year-old Cuban man: "The suit alleges the Most Rev. Priamo Tejeda, a retired bishop of the Diocese of Baní in the Dominican Republic, began assaulting the man while Tejeda was an active bishop and continued the assaults over an 11-year period, most recently in Broward County in 2005. The suit doesn’t say that any of the alleged assaults took place in Southwest Florida. The plaintiff in the lawsuit is identified by only his initials: 'J.G.' In the suit, J.G. alleges Tejeda contacted him in Miami in January 2005 to discuss employment opportunities within the Diocese of Venice, which has jurisdiction over 10 counties in Florida, including Collier and Lee. After Tejeda arrived in Miami, he drove J.G. to an apartment and then Tejeda forced himself sexually on J.G., the suit states. 'He was threatening him with deportation or arrest,' said J.G.’s lawyer, Ronald Weil of Miami."
Australian Prime Minister John Howard not amused by same-sex attraction query.

$12 million Modernist architectural "treasure" to hit the market in Provincetown: "Built by former Clark University psychology professor Carl Murchison and his worldly wife, Dorotea, the house has been off-limits to the public for years. Passersby seeking a glimpse of the house were shooed away by the Murchisons' reclusive daughter-in-law, who owned the house until her death earlier this year. But now, this unique property is at a pivotal moment in its history: The Murchisons' heir is selling the house. When it hits the market for about $12 million, as soon as this month, its fate will be subject to the whims of the luxury real estate market, which often values waterview properties much more for the development potential of the land than for the architectural significance of the house on it."
ABC News caught doing undercover story on gay kissing.
Sex sting at Daytona Beach's Volusia Mall nets former city commissioner and high school teacher. Police chief: "The reason that we did this sting is we all go to the mall; our kids go into the bathroom. That they could be susceptible to this kind of behavior is absolutely a disgrace."

Still a long way to go in this election, but the latest national poll has Barack Obama even with Hillary Clinton: "Obama, a first-term senator from Illinois, has steadily gained on Clinton, a veteran on the national political scene, over the last month and each now polled 32 percent among likely Democratic voters, the survey by Rasmussen Reports found. Former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina was third in the poll with 17 percent."
The gay film Solos has been pulled from the Singapore Film Festival over graphic sex: "The board said in a statement that the film contained "prolonged and explicit homosexual lovemaking scenes including scenes of oral sex and threesome sex" which had to be removed. The cuts make up about five minutes of the 77-minute film, Ang said. She said the filmmakers had not expected the censors to demand the cuts, as the 20-year-old festival, which is seen as catering to a niche and relatively limited audience, has previously screened movies she said were more graphic. 'I was actually prepared that we may have had cuts if we wanted to organize a commercial screening, but I didn't expect that for the festival itself,' Ang said."

Gay civil rights bill in Iowa may be getting a second chance: "The deciding factor could be a provision that allows employers to maintain dress codes as they see appropriate, [House Majority Leader Kevin] McCarthy said. That change could help some Republicans support the idea, which would create enough support for the proposal to pass. 'If that's something that folks need on their side of the aisle in order for them to unlock their people, then that's something we're willing to accept,' McCarthy said."
Shia LaBeouf working toward becoming Shia LaBuff: "The Disturbia actor is beefing up to star in the new Indiana Jones movie alongside Harrison Ford. 'The guy is still in premium shape,' LaBeouf tells PEOPLE. 'You don't want to be standing next to Harrison Ford and not be jacked also.'"
