First Look: Where the Wild Things Are One-Sheet

A new poster for the long-in-production and much-anticipated Spike Jonze-directed adaptation of author Maurice Sendak's children's classic Where the Wild Things Are has hit the web.

The movie, which has experienced some lengthy delays, has a release date of October, but its trailer is rumored to appear in front of the upcoming Monsters vs Aliens.

Last September, Sendak gave a rare and heartfelt interview to the New York Times in which he publicly acknowledged his sexuality and mourned his longtime partner. The interview offered some insight into some of the secrets kept in Sendak's own childhood. Said the author, regretfully: "All I wanted was to be straight so my parents could be happy. They never, never, never knew."

Check out the great one-sheet for Where the Wild Things Are, AFTER THE JUMP...

Sportrait: Matthew Mitcham

Here's a fantastic shot of gay Australian Olympic diver Matthew Mitcham taking a practice dive at the National Aquatics Center in Beijing last month in preparation for the games.

His teammate Robert Newbury has high expectations for Mitcham, who is set to compete in the 3m and 10m springboard events: "In the last few major world competitions, there's been seven (gold) for China and someone else has always taken one away from them. I'm sure they're determined to not let that happen, while the rest of the world are determined to make it happen. Matthew Mitcham is an awesome diver, it's well within his ability. He's absolutely fantastic.
It all comes down to the day."

The semifinals and finals for those are on August 19 and 23, respectively.

A sort of 'highlight reel' of Mitcham's dives, AFTER THE JUMP...

A First Look at Where the Wild Things Are

Where_the_wild_things_are

The first image from Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book Where the Wild Things Are has been released. If Jonze can bring the same wit and magic realism to this as he did to Being John Malkovich, I'm there. Seems like a perfect fit to me.
