I honestly think it would have no impact whatsoever with not only our fighters or our fan base. The guys in the UFC, everybody is so cool, it’s great sportsmanship, everybody has respect for each other. I honestly, it wouldn’t be a big deal to me and most of the guys I know in this sport, it wouldn’t be a big deal for them either.”

Minor league hockey player Justin Bourne: End the gay slurs. "In my days as a hockey player, I did nothing but contribute to hockey's culture of homophobia and prejudice against gays. I used gay slurs more times than I'd like to admit. Six months after I left my last professional locker room, I felt a twinge of regret, followed by a full-out, stomach punch of regret. And by the time I finished the first draft of this column, I was disgusted with myself."

Conservative Washington Times highlights Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James T. Conway's opposition to lifting ban on gays in the military: "But Gen. Conway has gone further than others in stating his opposition to a change in policy, according to the former official, who has been privy to private conversations on the matter. "He feels very strongly that [removing the ban] would be disruptive, and he opposes it," said the former official. Gen. Conway's private remarks stand in contrast to public utterances by other service chiefs, who have restricted themselves to repeating a well-rehearsed mantra: If Congress introduces a bill to repeal the ban, they will discuss it with the chain of command. If Congress changes the law, they will follow the law."

Oregon Transgender Mayor Stu Rasmussen Censured for Mini-Skirt

Silverton, Oregon's transgender mayor Stu Rasmussen was censured by the City Council 4-3 for wearing a mini-skirt while speaking to a group of children.

Stu On Friday, I posted a segment from FOX News commentator Bill O'Reilly's take on this story.

It was a rare criticism of the highly popular mayor, which came after a parent of one of the children filed a complaint: "The City Council found the public complaint to be founded and publicly reprimanded the mayor by censuring him, which basically means they officially disapproved of his outfit."

Trans Mayor Stu Rasmussen's Mini Skirt Catches Bill O'Reilly's Eye

She doesn't.

The Deets on Stu Rasmussen's Climb to Mayor

Details profiles Silverton, Oregon's transgender mayor Stu Rasmussen, who might be getting a reality show.

Writer Kayleen Schaefer was there the night Stu was sworn in:  "Longtime mayor Ken Hector, who lost his bid for re-election by 519 votes, stands quietly next to the man who beat him. He's dressed in a red sweater vest. To honor Hector's 16 years of service, Rasmussen presents him with a crystal clock. "Now you'll have plenty of time on your hands," he says. Rasmussen then places his left hand on a Bible, raises his right hand in the air, and pledges 'to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of Oregon, and faithfully perform my duties as mayor.' After some handshakes, he takes a seat on the dais, puts on a pair of reading glasses, and props his chin atop the crimson-tipped fingers he once used to rebuild a Chevy Suburban engine. He leans forward and, in the voice of a man introducing a burlesque act, says, "You're probably wondering why I've asked you here."

Stu Rasmussen Supporters Run Westboro Baptist Out of Silverton

Last week, Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church announced its plans to travel to Silverton, Oregon to inflict its hate upon the town's residents and its newly-elected (and first in the nation) transgender mayor Stu Rasmussen. The action was reported in the L.A. Times:

Rasmussen2"The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., known for its protests across the country targeting gays, plans to picket Monday in downtown Silverton 'to speak some words of truth to this 60-year-old pervert,' according to the church's website."

Turns out WBC got more than they bargained for:

"The counterprotesters outside City Hall in this Marion County town Monday significantly outnumbered the protesters who inspired them: three young women and a man from a Kansas church, here to register their disdain for the recent election of the nation's first openly transgender mayor, Stu Rasmussen. The quartet spread out along one side of North Water Street, feet planted on American flags spread on the sidewalk and hoisted large laminated posterboards on each arm. Double-sided and easy to read from passing vehicles and local television trucks positioned half a block away, the signs offered assorted damnation -- 'Barack Obama = Antichrist,' 'God Hates You,' 'You're Going to Hell' and 'Fag Media Shame.'"

And it sounds like it was a real showdown:

"The counterprotesters were waiting across the two-lane street -- men in skirts and boots, moms with babes in arm, lifelong Silverton residents alongside kids playing hooky from Salem schools. The crowd of about 150 waved and drummed and hugged. Their signs, homemade, hurriedly produced on office laser printers and painted on the back of campaign yard signs, focused on the positive. 'My love is bigger than your hate,' read one. 'We love Stu (and so does God).' 'Everyone is welcome in Silverton.' For nearly an hour, the two sides faced off in a tense demonstration of wills. The cool air was mostly quiet, except for passing pickups and school buses. One Kansas visitor mumbled a riff from Aerosmith's hard rock ditty, 'Dude looks like a lady.' Another pointed a stone smile at boys who threw curses out the windows of passing cars. When the church members began to chant, a man beat a drum to drown them out."

L.A. Times Profiles Popular Transgender Mayor Stu Rasmussen

The L.A. Times has published a big profile on Stu Rasmussen, the nation's first transgender mayor. Rasmussen was elected by the people of Silverton, Oregon on November 4th:

"Rasmussen, longtime manager of the local cinema, was also elected mayor in 1988 and 1990, and served four years -- but that was when he was wearing slacks and sport shirts to council meetings. The new Rasmussen -- who got breast implants a few years ago and began calling himself Carla Fong -- wears skirts, lipstick and high heels. The thing is, Rasmussen's been a fixture in this small former lumber mill town so long, people tend not to pay much attention to what he's wearing."

Rasmussen notices when they do though: "Guys come up to me in the bar and say, 'Hate to tell you this, but I saw this woman on the street the other day, and I'm thinking, great legs, nice tan, and she turns around and I go, 'Oh, my God, it's Stu!''...If I could have a face transplant, it'd be perfect. A face like this, only a mother could love. But people overlook the face now, because there's all this other real estate."

Rasmussen's gender identity has earned him notice nationally, and you could have bet on this:

"The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., known for its protests across the country targeting gays, plans to picket Monday in downtown Silverton 'to speak some words of truth to this 60-year-old pervert,' according to the church's website."
