London Tottenham Riots: Time-Lapse

Over the weekend, Andrew posted about the riots in London's Tottenham neighborhood that sprang from a peaceful vigil over the Metropolitan Police's fatal shooting of 29-year old father of four named Mark Duggan.

Now, there's an eerie time-lapse of the event, as the fires burned into early morning.

In related news, Morrissey spoke up about the riots at one of his concerts, criticizing the British government:

"Does anyone think that David Cameron has been to Tottenham? I don't think so," he told the crowd.

Director Peter Simon writes: "My friend wanted to shave his amazing beard. I said 'okay, but let us shave it in style.'"

Adds one Reddit commenter, "i love how my assumption of who he is changed with each new hair style."

NYT Page One Time-Lapse: VIDEO

Due to an errant cron task that ran twice an hour from September 2010 to July 2011, I accidentally collected about 12,000 screenshots of the front page of the nytimes.com (unfortunately, you can only watch the whole 7 minutes if you stick to 480p).

Having worked with and developed on a number of content management systems I can tell you that as a rule of thumb no one is storing their frontpage layout data. It's all gone, and once newspapers shutter their physical distribution operations I get this feeling that we're no longer going to have a comprehensive archive of how our news-sources of note looked on a daily basis. Archive.org comes close, but there are too many gaps to my liking.
