1NewsIcon Author Janet Levy is trying to twist the Democratic Party's commitment to diversity, including not discriminating against Muslims, into something it's not: "It is the height of hypocrisy and irony that, although Democrats freely criticize the policies of Republicans as anti-woman and anti-gay and worry about a conservative agenda that will result in a setback of the gains enjoyed by women and homosexuals over the past several decades, they fail to address the greater threat Islamic doctrine represents. Democrats are silent about Islamic relegation of women to second-class citizenship and the life-and-death dangers it poses for homosexuals."

Victoria Jackson Loves Her Gay Friends And Todd Akin, Too

VictoriaJacksonFormer Saturday Night Live star and current conservative fundamentalist Victoria Jackson was of course at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, which where Sirius radio host Michelangelo Signorile ran into her and asked the Tea Partier to sound of on Todd "legitimate rape" Akin.

You can be sure Jackson, a woman who thinks all Muslims are terrorists and describes gay kisses as "sickening", had plenty to say.

"The Todd Akin thing was so blown out of proportion -- it's a joke," she said. "How many times do people get pregnant from rape? It's point zero zero one percent. It's a joke.

She went on: "I read lots of articles. I know people, because I'm 53. I've know a lot of people, and I've actually never known anyone who got pregnant from being raped."

Jackson also said that if she got pregnant from a rape, she would have the baby.

I think that God can turn a bad thing into a good thing. And that, if I got raped and a beautiful baby who was innocent was born out of it, that would be a blessing. The DNA of a baby is individual. It's not the mother's DNA. It's not the father's DNA. And that's why I believe abortion is murder, because it's not the woman's body. It has it's own DNA. If there's a boy baby inside of me, he has a penis. That's not my body.

Signorile later asked Jackson to respond to former friend Dan Steadman's public claim that Jackson turned her back on him because he's gay. "I love my gay friends," she told Signorile. "My best friends who are gay, I've actually never seen them with a boyfriend. It's like -- we've never talked about sex. I don't think people should identify themselves by their sexual life. My identity is in Christ... But I don't think people should make their identity about their sex life. That should be private."

Would it be inappropriate to point out here that it was a self-professed "normally sexed" person, Karl-Maria Kertbeny, who first used the word "homosexual" in print, forever making sex part of straight and LGBT people's identities alike?

Watch Todd Akin Claim Marriage Equality Destroys Civilization: VIDEO

Akin2006

This was mentioned in passing earlier this month, but this video is worth another look. In 2006, long before he was known for fabricating something called "legitimate rape", zealot Republican Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri took to the House floor to decry same-sex love's destructive properties.

"Anybody who knows something about the human race knows that there is no civilization which has condoned homosexual marriage widely and openly that has long survived," he said at the time.

But if Akin is to be believed, and we're meant also to believe in "American exceptionalism," a characteristic the GOP regularly celebrates, wouldn't the States be the exception to this spurious rule? It's all very confusing.

Meanwhile, in other Akin news, President Obama poked some fun at the congressman during a fundraiser in New York City last night. "Recently some of you have been paying attention to the commentary about the senator from Missouri, Mr. Akin," said the president, before the continuing, "the interesting thing here is that this, this is an individual who sits on the House Committee on Science and Technology but somehow missed science class."

Rachel Maddow Takes on Akin, Ryan, Rape, Abortion, and the GOP: VIDEO

Rape_maddow

Rachel Maddow covers Akin, Ryan, and the Republican Party on rape and abortion:

"But think about the big picture here for a second. Between those two guys, between Akin and Ryan. Which one is worse? Saying you want to force a woman who has just conceived against her will to also give birth against her will by order of the government?

Or - telling yourself a fake science fairy tale so you can pretend those women don't exist, and you would never want the kind of government that would do something so barbaric to a woman for nine months after the barbarism that was done to her in the incident of rape. Which is worse? The person with the fairy tale or the person without one? Because they both want the same policy either way. It's just that in the newfangled Republican Mike Huckabee way of justifying it, they drop the fake science fairy tale. They don't bother trying to make it seem less barbaric."
