Mugaberoad.jpg How did you celebrate your last birthday? The President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe used his as a pulpit to spew hate against gays and the West. He threatened to arrest and jail any clergy who performed same-sex marriage ceremonies in the country. He also warned his supporters of the dangers of homosexuality: "Leave whites to do that."

road.jpg They eat their own: Clay Aiken sued by Claymates. "As consumers, we feel ripped off. It is obvious now that the private Clay is very different from the manufactured, packaged public Clay who was marketed to us."

road.jpg Vietnam: After many difficulties, a center for community and awareness opens. The Hai Dang (Light House) club is Hanoi's first gay association.

road.jpg Massachusetts church containing the crypts of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams to unfurl huge banner supporting same-sex marriage. Reverend: "Equality is a fundamental principle in our state constitution, which was written by John Adams. So it’s not entirely a coincidence that our congregation holds equality as a key principle. We’re the continuation of the church in which John Adams was a member."

That thing about the Claymates is pure gold. What losers. Their mothers all probably had secret crushes on Liberace.

Sorry, but I do endulge in a bit of schaudenfraude around Clay Aiken's troubles. I must confess that I never watched 'American Idol' and in fact find it to be one of the most mindless concepts ever developed, and that I have not been very impressed with Clay's "talent". However, I have been amused at the constant speculation about his sexuality (come on ladies... LOOK AT HIM!!) and the shifting sand of his fan base.

While I do appreciate the difficulties faced by openly gay and lesbian celebrities, as well as the undertone of homophobia at 'AI', Clay would have done himself and his fans a real service by just being open about who and what he is. When the rumours started, Clay could have come out and said something like, "My sexual life is private, yet it has become the topic of much public speculation. I would like to set the record straight: I am a gay American and am proud of who and what I am." That would have pretty much ended it and would have cast him in a better light, I think.

Of course it is easy for me to sit here and criticize, but at some point Clay is gonna have to come clean and he may as well do it now and save himself more trouble later.

Uh, Jonathon: I don't think Mr. Aiken can "come clean" after reading about what he likes to do. I think he likes it dirty.

I'm not a big fan of "outing" but Mr. Aiken's repeated denials that he's bent were bordering on hysteria. He was not only saying that being gay is something to be ashamed of, he was and continues to be of the mind that saying someone is gay is slanderous. Shit, I think he should consider it a compliment that gay men would say he's queer in spite of that goofy hair!

While the trouble of Clay are "interesting", I'm more worried about the Mugabe speech.

Mugabe is a thuggish neanderthal who's unfit to run a car wash, let alone a nation. I wonder if we could arrange a hunting trip with our Vice President?

Makes me grateful to be an American, despite all of America's faults and my complaints. We should continue to work to make our country a better place in which to live, but we should keep in mind that there are billions of GLBT folks who have it much worse.

While I think that everyone has the right to come out in the way they choose, the repeated denials of being gay by some people who are is really sad.

Just a bit off topic....did anyone see "Grizzly Man" the documentary about Timothy Treadwell... the guy who lives with and filmed the bears and was ultimately killed by one? Anyway, to me he was obviously gay and throughout the film there were blatant references dozens of times about how he loved women and many out of place comments about female friends he had who the narrorator inappropriately would make a comment about a possibly love relationship between Treadwell and the women. It just seems so forced as if there was an agenda to make him come off straight when he was so obviously gay. The saddest part was when Treadwell was filming himself walking while talking to his hand held camera about how women didn't connect to him and he sometimes wished he was gay.....because gays have it so easy with their bathroom hook ups at truck stops, etc. Obviously a very self-hating gay guy. I want to rewatch this film just to count how many times the film maker pushes that this guy is straight...when it had no relivance to what the film was about. Jeez...the guy still slept with his childhood teddy bear named "Tabatha" and we're suppose to believe he is straight?

All that needs to happen is for them to discover oil under Zimbabwe.

Is Robert Mugabe a member of the Republican Party? He must be listening in to US broadcasts to be able to espouse the Republican Party platform so well.

Note to Brian. I doubt if there are billions of us GLBT folks on this planet. Hundreds of millions, maybe, but not likely billions!

Why would gay Americans care about thwarting homophobia in other countries when there are so many circuit parties to attend?? Priorities, ladies. Priorities.

Jeff,

Circuit parties are so 1998. Yawn.

The thing with Drew was perfectly harmless. I saw it and took no offense it was rather cute......................

Lachey made a joke about butt-fucking. Probably not appropriate for family viewing. I think it was ok to edit it out.

"Mommy, what did Drew mean when he put his hat over his bottom?"

"I don't know, honey. Ask your father."

In 1991, Mugabe launched a "moral campaign" against homosexuality, making what he deemed "unnatural sex acts" illegal with a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. This included the arrest of his predecessor as President of Zimbabwe, Canaan Banana, who was convicted of alleged gay sex offences.

Mugabe holds homosexuals responsible for the AIDS epidemic. While Zimbabwe has the highest HIV/AIDS infection rate in the world, the overwhelming majority of sufferers there are heterosexual, and the majority of sufferers are women.

Will he make being female a crime? Sure, about the same time he outlaws heterosexuality.

"Mugabe holds homosexuals responsible for the AIDS epidemic. While Zimbabwe has the highest HIV/AIDS infection rate in the world, the overwhelming majority of sufferers there are heterosexual"

But Mugabe could always say what so many in the US believed and declared for the longest time once straight people started getting it: "Ok, so it's not just a gay disease anymore but they had it first and gave it to us so it's still their fault."

I honestly don't know much about Zimbabwe but I have an idea that I know all I need to know about Mugabe from this one article.

The Drew Lachey CYA joke wasn't censored in Utah. I was actually a little taken aback by it--I wasn't offended, but I didn't find it funny, either.

Clay Aiken is bisexual. Why do you think he denied being gay but never admitted he was straight? The guy is a swinger. All gay guys want him to be gay and all straight women want him to be straight so they should all be heaven knowing he likes both. That boy is into all kinds of freaky!
