At a news conference today, San Diego authorities identified the second San Diego Pride gay basher as 18-year-old Lyon Tatum. Tatum was originally thought to be a minor. Yesterday, police arrested James Allen Carroll in connection with the attacks.
The Union Tribune also reports that police were able to work from a single citizen tip in order to break the case. Said Mayor Jerry Sanders: “Without that tip, we probably wouldn't have been able to bring this case to such a swift resolution. I'm relieved that these violent, hate-filled individuals are off our streets.”
Police, who worked diligently on the case, “plan to recommend prosecutors file charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.”
In what appeared to be a nod to the gays and lesbians serving on San Diego's police force, Sanders added: “We have a lot of officers who take it very personally when a crime like this occurs.”
