Tracy Morgan's Controversy: The Episode, The Musical: VIDEO

Jake_wilson

Last year's Tracy Morgan controversy is about to reenter the public consciousness, via a 30 Rock episode, the HuffPost's Rob Shuter reports:

Tracy_morgan"Well, you know how a lot of their episodes mirror their lives ... They've incorporated [Morgan's rant] into the Tracy Jordan storyline," MSNBC's Thomas Roberts, who makes a cameo appearance on the show, said of a forthcoming episode. "Liz Lemon writes Tracy's apology on the show and says he's not a homophobe, he's an idiot. That offends idiots, so while NBC is being picketed by the LBGT community, now it's also being picketed by idiots led by Denise Richards. She's the leader of the idiots."

Roberts, an openly gay anchor himself, said Martin Bashir was originally supposed to be part of the show but dropped out due to an assignment conflict. That's when Roberts stepped in to be part of the episode that addresses an issue so important to him.

And coincidentally, a new web musical by The Battery's Down's Jake Wilson, Chase Peacock, and Andrew Keenan-Bolger has popped up online, and offers its own solution to the "Tracy Morgan Dilemma".

Make Tracy Morgan gay.

T.I.'s Homophobic Big Mouth is Pissing Off Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan wishes rapper T.I. would keep his mouth shut, Rob Shuter reports:

Morgan"Tracy wishes T.I. would just shut up," a friend of the "30 Rock" actor tells me. "It has not only picked the scab off a very ugly wound, it has also put Tracy in a very difficult position. Does he issue a statement distancing himself from T.I. or does he say nothing?"

The comments that have Morgan straddling the fine line between staying under the radar and fighting back came from T.I.'s interview with Vibe, in which he referenced an off-color remark about gay men as "the funniest joke I ever heard Tracy say."

T.I. then suggested that the backlash against Morgan's stand-up routine was un-American.

T.I.: Celebs Should Be Allowed to Speak Out Against Gays Without Being 'Shut Down'

Ti

In the new issue of Vibe, T.I. sounds off on the Tracy Morgan controversy, and suggests that it's un-American for gay people to speak out against those who criticize them:

Man, I will say this, the funniest joke I ever heard Tracy (Morgan) say during a stand-up was, ‘C’mon man, I think gay people are too sensitive. If you can take a dick, you can take a joke.’ [Cracks up laughing.] That shit was funny to me. And it’s kind of true.’

While T.I. makes clear that he supports anyone’s sexual preference, he then connects, in his opinion, a current oversensitivity among gay people with a consequential and ironic offense of the First Amendment. “They’re like,‘If you have an opinion against us, we’re gonna shut you down.’ ... That’s not American. If you’re gay you should have the right to be gay in peace, and if you’re against it you should have the right to be against it in peace.’

Rosie O'Donnell welcomed comic Tracy Morgani to her show on Monday night and inevitably the conversation turned to the anti-gay remarks which caused controversy earlier this year.

Said O'Donnell: "I know you're not homophobic, because News Flash! I'm a lesbian."

Said Morgan: "I've had gay family members. I felt hurt because people at my show was hurt...I want to make this place a little bit better than it was when I got here...My brother was born crippled so I know sometimes children in schoolyards can be mean...I honed in on my sense of humor because when you're funny in the ghetto they protect you a little bit."

Morgan added, joking: "If my son was gay, I wouldn't be mad at him, just ask him to decorate the house."

Tracy Morgan Doesn't Remember What He Said That Offended Gays, Wishes People Just Got the Comedy: VIDEO

Morgan

Comic Tracy Morgan talked about the controversy over his homophobic remarks on The Late Show with David Letterman last night.

"I don't remember exactly what I said that night. I've done 50 shows since. Whatever I said it must have offended [audience member Kevin Rogers], and then he tweeted it out. And then I had to deal."

If I recall correctly, Morgan said he would kill his own son if he found out he was gay.

Tracy Morgan Travels to Nashville to Apologize for Anti-Gay Stand-Up Rant: VIDEO

Nashville_morgan

Tracy Morgan appeared in Nashville today with GLAAD Senior Director of Programs Herndon Graddick and Kevin Rogers, the audience member who originally wrote about Morgan's offensive stand-up routine on Facebook.

Said Morgan, after remarks from Rogers:

"I apologize to Kevin and people that were at the show. I want to apologize to my friends, and my family and my fans and everyone in every community who were offended with this. I didn't know. I didn't mean it. That's how I feel about it. I don’t have a hateful bone in my body. I don’t believe that anyone should be bullied or just made to feel bad about who they are. I totally feel that, in my heart, I don’t care who you love, same-sex or not, as long as you have the ability to love..."

Said Graddick, in a statement from GLAAD: "Tracy’s remarks today have the power to reach millions with a message that gay and transgender youth should be met with support from families --not rejection or violence. In a state like Tennessee where anti-gay laws continue to be passed, it’s now more important than ever for allies like Tracy to speak out and let Tennesseans know that homophobia has no place on or off the stage."
