News: AIDS Vaccine, Beijing, Albino Eagle, El Paso, Newlywed Game
Obama will not speak at the Brandenburg Gate, according to Bloomberg, but at the Victory Column just down the road: "A stage will be set up at the column, a 19th-century fluted structure that lies at the opposite end of a tree-lined boulevard from the Brandenburg Gate, the newspaper said. The campaign will announce the plans for July 24 today, it said. An appearance at the Victory Column, capped by its trademark gilded angel, will still give the Illinois senator the Brandenburg Gate as a backdrop in the distance."

San Jose City College biology professor sues community college district for firing her over answering question about homosexuality and heredity: " In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in San Jose, June Sheldon alleges that college officials trampled on academic freedoms and free speech rights by firing her in February. Sheldon is backed in the case by the Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative organization that also has been heavily involved in the legal battles over gay marriage in California and elsewhere. The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, reinstatement to her teaching job and a court finding that Sheldon's rights were violated."

Garrett Neff Next in Line in the Calvin Klein Brief Brotherhood

Garrett Neff has been chosen to show off new Calvin Klein's Body and Body Stretch underwear in magazines and on billboards this fall.
DNR reports: "Shot on location in Miami by renowned photographer Bruce Weber, who shot Calvin Klein Underwear’s first ad campaign 25 years ago, the sexy black-and-white images epitomize the very clean yet sensual aesthetic that Calvin Klein has become so well known for. Neff, who is the face of the company’s fragrance, Calvin Klein Man, was featured alongside Kate Bosworth in the spring ad campaign for Calvin Klein Jeans. He succeeds Academy Award–nominated actor Djimon Hounsou as Calvin Klein’s latest body."

Here are two images from the campaign. The third follows AFTER THE JUMP...

2(x)ist Passes Mario Lopez Over for Bicep Rival Nick Adams

Page Six reports today that the behind-the-scenes feud between A Chorus Line's Mario Lopez and co-star Nick Adams that began when Lopez allegedly requested that Adams cover up in their scenes together as to avoid being upstaged, has been taken one step further:
"Now the rivalry between the hunks has been pumped up with word that the men's-underwear company 2(x)ist has decided it wants Adams front and center in a shirtless ad and that it passed over Lopez. 'Mario was originally No. 1 on our radar as we planned the campaign,' said an insider. 'We were ready to call him with an offer, but then we saw Nick. He's younger, sexy, more interesting. On top of that, his body was crazy. We set up a meeting, and when he walked in, that was it. We never even looked at anyone else after that.' Jason Scarlatti, 2(x)ist's creative director, gave final approval. He told us, 'Nick's very masculine, sexy, modern. It's totally all about his body. Mario is a good-looking guy, but Nick had it. He's up and coming, the new face of sexy. He's original. He's hot.' The ad campaign was shot in one day at Via Della Pace restaurant in the East Village. The series of shots shows Adams in an unbuttoned tuxedo shirt, a bow tie and underwear. It will appear in Out's August issue first and then in other magazines."
Above, a shot of Adams in 2(x)ist posted on his website the day of his photo shoot last month. Below, Lopez and Adams in A Chorus Line (photo via Broadway World).

Kathy Griffin cast a big gay spell on Lance Bass at the taping of Bravo's A-List awards last night at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, causing his pants to plummet to his ankles and everybody to make funny faces. It also gave the audience a flash of some muscular thighs, though Bass seemed a bit shy about showing off the goods.

Police raid gay sauna in Israel: "The association's chairman, Mike Hammel, said that 'the sauna is a meeting place for men looking to meet men.' Hammel received many complaints from the sauna's visitors accusing him of slander. The sauna is viewed as a recreational place for gays around the world. In Tel-Aviv, for instance, there are three running saunas. A. established the sauna in Haifa a few months ago, investing large sums of money, and has run it ever since. This is the only place in the north serving as a meeting place for the gay community. 'Saying that this place provides prostitution services, is simply ignorance and stupidity', he said to Ynet. 'Only in Haifa can they come to a place for gays, remove people as if they were a herd of animals, and simply place them under investigation for prostitution.'"

Smiley Face: Investigators discover common link between 40 murder cases of young men across the country. "Gannon and Duarte have done something that no other law enforcement agency has ever done in this case -- they looked at the big picture and visited each site where the young men disappeared. A broken drain pipe allows sewer gas into the building, while another one has tissues stuffed into it in an apparent effort to stop the gas from coming in. Hanes Issues Apology for Ads Using Gay, Racial Slurs

Last week I posted a set of ads for Hanes tagless underwear created by the Bombay division of McCann Erickson, features a man dragging a stereotype- and slur-laden caricature.
After GLAAD sent a letter to Hanes calling their use of slurs to sell underwear "reprehensible" the company released a statement distancing themselves from the ads and apologizing for them.
Wrote Hanes: "[T]hese ads were not developed at the request of Hanesbrands...the ads were developed by advertising agency McCann Erickson for their own purposes and did not receive authorized approval from Hanesbrands. We regret this episode and are taking steps to assure that such an event never occurs again. We apologize to all those offended by the ads. We, too, were offended."

Just Cavalli Underwear Campaign Features Italian Rugby Beefcake

Roberto Cavalli's new black and white underwear campaign for Just Cavalli featuring the Italian rugby team Montepaschi Viadana "is styled to resemble old High School and College Year Book team photos from the 1940s and 50s" according to JockoHomo.
I've chopped up the main ad here into bite-sized pieces. Click to enlarge. You can see the complete ad AFTER THE JUMP...
Fashion Windows writes: "Shot by photographer Gianpaolo Sgura in the team’s official locker-room, the black & white, yearbook style rendition of the ad gives it a classic and innocent look with varsity boys’ impishness. The advertising campaign features Aldo Birch, Ross Curlew, Matthew Harvey, Hayden Pedersen and Kaine Robertson (Kaine is also playing in the Italian National Team), all members of the Montepaschi Viadana team. Founded in 1970, the Montepaschi Viadana team has played in the National Excellence Championship Super 10, Italian Cup and the prestigious European Competition 'Heineken Cup'. The ad featuring the Italian rugby players will run starting June 2008 in a selected number of Italian and international magazines."

Hanes Utilizing Offensive Tags to Sell Tagless Underwear

Via Joe.My.God comes this image of a new ad from Hanes, promoting their tagless underwear with the tagline "Because the World Gives You Enough Labels". The ad features a man dragging a stereotype- and slur-laden character. Joe reports that the ad was created by the Bombay division of McCann Erickson, so it's unlikely to appear in American markets.
With a little digging I was able to find two other ads in the campaign, via Trendhunter. They write: "In Fagg*t, you see same-sex kissing, debauchery, toys, bottles of wine and references to beauty: lipstick, nail polish and makeup. In Nigg*r, you see drugs, guns, jail cells, low-life jobs like cleaning toilets, and text about being HIV positive. In Pak! (a demeaning name for people from Pakistan), you see tanks, bullets, bombs and pigs (an anti-Islamic reference)."

Jay Leno Checks Out David Beckham's Hottest Look
David Beckham's Armani underwear ad got Jay Leno all hot and bothered on The Tonight Show last night. Leno, if you missed our earlier post, yesterday apologized for his "gayest look" remarks to Ryan Phillippe.
Said Beckham of the shoot: "I was so nervous about doing that campaign because obviously I’ve done photoshoots before but I’ve never done photoshoots in my underwear. But to do that, I was quite nervous because obviously I knew my wife and friends were going to see it. And my mom was going to see it. When the photos first came out, she was the first one to call me and say, ‘What are you doing?’ I tried explaining it to her but she didn’t really get it."

Super Bowl Champ Eli Manning the next 2(x)ist Underwear Model?

The latest athlete-to-underwear model rumor to hit the field is that New York Giant Super Bowl champ Eli Manning may show some skin. The NY Daily News' Jo Piazza reports: "Calvin Klein may be trying to get into Tom Brady's pants (the company, not the designer, to make him the brand's new underwear model!), but word on the street is sexy men's underwear line 2(x)ist is trying to get his rival, Giants quarterback Eli Manning, to model their teeny-weeny, bikini-style briefs."
Actually, the Brady rumors have been denied, but Brady is certainly ahead in the sexy endorsements department, and this would give Eli some indecent exposure.

News: Madonna, Underoos, Grand Canyon, Colin Farrell, Tunisia
Researcher: Moses was high on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments and when he saw the 'burning bush'. "As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don't believe, or a legend, which I don't believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics."

Madonna opens wide: "I really enjoy writing with Justin...We had psychoanalytic sessions whenever we wrote songs first. We'd sit down and we'd start talking about situations. And then we'd start talking about issues or problems or relationships with people."

Colin Farrell smokes up British GQ.
Anti-gay lawyer Robert Skolrood is dead at 79: "He fought against gay rights by helping to word an initiative on the Colorado ballot in 1992 that would have barred any special protection for homosexuals. The amendment to the state’s constitution passed but was struck down by the United States Supreme Court four years later. Mr. Skolrood helped to draft an amendment to the Cincinnati City Charter to similarly deprive homosexuals of specific legal protections; voters approved the measure in 1993. A federal appeals court upheld the result, and the United States Supreme Court in 1998 refused to hear an appeal."

'Underoos' for Men sales bulge: "It seems that the Y-front, bikinis, wild prints and Underoos style underwear has made a huge comeback in contributing to a $1.1 billion men's knit-underwear market. (Knit underwear excludes the traditional boxer) John Sievers, co-owner of International Jock, calls it an 'explosion' in his business in the last 3 years that has doubled his revenues."
Gay Malaysian pleads with Canada for asylum: "Amirthalingan moved to Montreal in 2003 and applied for refugee status in Canada on humanitarian grounds, arguing his life was in danger because his homosexuality made him a target of Malaysian police who detained him for five days, and abused him, physically and sexually. 'They were punching me, pushing me down to the floor and putting their leg on me to confess that I am a gay,' he told CBC last week. Being gay in Malaysia is difficult, and he is "a bit afraid for my safety" if he's forced to go back. 'I don't have family support too, because my brothers and sisters are against [me] because I'm gay.' Amirthalingan lost his refugee status case because the judge was not convinced he was gay. He filed for a humanitarian appeal and a pre-removal risk assessment, which were both rejected by the Quebec Immigration Board."

My health situation is stable. HIV-positives who can't move or even walk are people who refuse the fact that they're infected with HIV. Tom Brady CK Underwear Model Rumors Bunch Up Again

Last November I posted about rumors that Tom Brady had been offered over $1 million to be the next Calvin Klein underwear model. Now those rumors appear to be swirling yet again.

News: Prince Harry, Eagle Scout, Wolverine, Orlando Bloom
Vigil against violence to be held today in Fort Lauderdale at 4:30pm: "Join the coalition of community leaders and organizations as we gather to remember Simmie Williams and stand up against the rising tide of violence for a memorial service at the murder site at the 1000 block of Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale."

Prince Harry has been fighting undercover in Afghanistan for the past 10 weeks: "The news of his operational posting leaked out following the breakdown of a news blackout agreement with the media when the story was posted on the US-based Drudge Report website. The chief of the general staff, Sir Richard Dannatt, who is head of the British army, expressed disappointment over the leak. 'I am very disappointed that foreign websites have decided to run this story without consulting us,' he said. 'This is in stark contrast to the highly responsible attitude that the whole of the UK print and broadcast media, along with a small number overseas, who have entered into an understanding with us over the coverage of Prince Harry on operations.' Dannatt, who had opposed Harry's deployment to Iraq, went on to praise the prince's performance on deployment."
Orlando Bloom is tired of complaints about his natural manly scent.
NYC sees surge in gay syphilis cases: "After seeing the number of syphilis cases remain stable in 2004 and 2005 then decrease in 2006, the city health department is reporting that syphilis cases increased by 60 percent in 2007 over 2006, with that growth due to new infections among gay and bisexual men."

Bollywood actor rejected: not gay enough to play a fashionista. Kushal Punjabi: "I really got along well with Madhur. He's my kind of director. But I really didn't see myself in that role at all. I'd like to work with directors like Madhur who look at actors as actors and not as stars."
Ben Affleck discusses his revenge sex video with Jimmy Kimmel: "You couldn't really do it half-speed. You had to be painting toes and blow-drying hair. At one point we were going to take a bath together, but the bubbles couldn't get high enough, so that ended up getting scrapped. The little outfits, the short shorts, the hands in the pockets -- it wouldn't have been funny if you didn't really commit to it."

Gay Canadian Health Minister Smitherman criticized for proposing to wear adult diaper as test in response to nursing home 'filth' issues: "Opposition politicians, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and a nursing home association said Smitherman's plan to test drive a diaper shows he doesn't understand the issue is about staffing levels – not diaper technology. 'For him to suggest that's his answer is a disgrace,' said Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory. 'It's some kind of a sideshow he seems determined to put on when, in fact, I think people in Ontario would say: 'George Smitherman, do something about it. Let's see the revolution you promised in long-term care.''"

Texas governor Rick Perry holds book-signing for Boy Scout tome: "Perry's tour to promote the book has garnered national attention. The book debuted at No. 1 on The Washington Post's best-seller list for hardcover nonfiction in Washington-area bookshops. His office touted that achievement the day after The New York Times Magazine published an interview in which Perry said scouting was about building character and not about sex. The word 'homosexual,' he said, suggests that gay people are focused on sex."
Eagle Scout leaves organization disgusted by anti-gay policies: "I am ashamed an organization to which I owe so much has chosen to take such a myopic stance on this issue and hides behind a legal veil to exclude gay Scouts."

Posh on Beckham's Bulgeboard: It's Great, Huge, Enormous, Massive

Victoria Beckham took a break from the Spice Girls tour to attend the Roberto Cavalli show at fashion week in Milan, where last week a gigantic version of David Beckham's Emporio Armani ad was erected at the intersection of Via Cusani and Via Broletto.
She didn't mince words about the giant billboard:
"I’m proud to see his penis 25 foot tall. It’s great. It’s huge. It’s enormous. Massive. If I looked like that I’d walk down the street in my panties too."
The remarks follow her December boast about the football player's package: "I’m proud I still have a really good sex life with David. He is very much in proportion. He does have a huge one, though. He does. You can see it in the advert. It is all his. It is like a tractor exhaust pipe!"

EXCLUSIVE: Joe Oppedisano Celebrates the Calvin Klein Man
Here's a sunny treat for this gray day (at least in NYC) — a spread from photographer Joe Oppedisano that you can find in the new issue of Italian fashion publication Collezioni Uomo.
Says Joe of the shoot: "It's not really a fashion spread as much as it is a special celebration of Calvin Klein's 25th anniversary as the man who made underwear fashion. Before that there was no such thing as designer underwear, and when he launched, it really turned fashion upside down. The ads were incredible, and the billboard of Jeff Aquilon by Bruce Weber in Times Square revolutionized fashion and liberated and brought sex right into everyone's home. (and male beauty, which before was hidden by suits)."
Joe adds: "We shot it at the Rivington Hotel Penthouse (which is unbelievable) in one long day. We were very lucky because it was cloudy and rainy in the morning and then after my lights caught fire and I had to run out and get a new set, the sun came out and gave us really spectacular and interesting backdrops of the city."
Much more, AFTER THE JUMP...
