Gay Couple's Home in Alaska Targeted with Sign Reading 'Fags Die'

Sign

A gay couple living in Anchorage, Alaska had their home and car struck by vandals this week.

Adam Jacobson says that he discovered a frozen soupy substance on the couple's mailbox, an eggshell on the front porch, and a few empty jars in their backyard.

But it was what they found on the windshield of their car that really disturbed them, KTVA reports.

Someone had walked up their driveway to place a sign made up of many smaller signs on the vehicle, which had a swastika on it, and said "FAG FREE ZONE", "White Power", "Fags Die, God Laughs, Homosexuality is Sin", "I Hate You, "Two Men Should Friends! Not Butt Buddies!!!", "Homos are possessed by demons", and "God Hates Fag Enablers".

Jacobson and his husband have lived in their current home for four years. He says that friends and members of the community have been supportive since the incident.

He attributes the hate as a reaction to the recent legalization of same-sex marriage in Alaska, and says the haters are "feeling marginalized and feeling like sort of victims of the progressive moment."

Canadian Councillor's Campaign Signs Vandalized, Sprayed 'Homophobe'

Jeff earle

A candidate for a seat on the city council in Brockville, Ontario, has had five election campaign posters defaced, one of them with the word “homophobe” in black spray paint, reports The Recorder. 1297620912487_ORIGINAL

Jeff Earle, a council veteran of 23 years, is convinced the “homophobe” charge stems from a vote last February preventing debate on a motion to fly the rainbow flag behind city hall during the Winter Olympics.

A unanimous vote was required to get the motion to the floor. Earle, the only councillor to oppose hearing the motion, says he blocked the vote because of a desire to keep politics out of the Olympics.

Earle, who says the vandalism should be treated as a hate crime, resents being tarred as a homophobe because of that vote:

“I treat it as a hate crime. For them to label that, I find it a little offensive. That vote was not about whether you support individuals.”

City police are currently investigating.

In June, Ontario elected its first female and lesbian premier Kathleen Wynne.

Neighbors Defend Gay Oregon Grandmother Harassed by Property Manager, Hate Graffiti: VIDEO

Diedyke

A grandmother in Rainier, Oregon had a hateful gay slur painted on the side of her home and says it's just the latest incident of targeted harassment she has faced since the park she lives in hired a new property manager.

GrandmotherKOIN reports that Melanie Powell has been living out and proud (with a rainbow flag outside her home) at the same trailer park for 25 years without any trouble but when a new property manager was hired she suddenly felt threatened.

Powell began receiving repair notices for her roof, porch, and paint, and was subjected to harassment from the new manager Maureena Schmaing, KOIN adds:

“I’m tired of being yelled at, screamed at, vulgar language, being accused of doing stuff we are not doing,” said Powell.

Several of Powell’s neighbors, including William Pierce, said they haven’t had any problems with the new property manager and that all focus seems to be on Powell. Neighbors believe they may be targeting Powell because she is gay.

Manager“I’ve watched it enough where I had to come down here myself and stop the manager from yelling at her the way she was,” said Pierce.

When confronted, the park’s manager...denied she was targeting Powell because of her sexual orientation. “I’m a landlord. I follow the Manufacturing Housing Oregon Law, and I follow all the Title 10 Law with any park site I manage,” said Schmaing.

It's unclear who is behind the hateful graffiti.

No suspect has been identified, but it is believed the perpetrator entered through an adjacent office.

That ATLAH World Missionary Church in NYC's Harlem neighborhood, which has made headlines recently for its anti-gay church signs, was vandalized on Saturday, tagged with the phrase 'God is Gay', the NYDN reports:

JesusWouldStoneHomosA male suspect is being sought for spray-painting the retaliatory message on both sides of the sign outside the ATLAH World Missionary Church on W. 123rd St. near Lenox Ave., police said Sunday. The vandal struck early Saturday.

Pastor James David Manning in the past has used the sign to display messages such as “Jesus would stone homos” and “Harlem is a homo-free zone.”

Manning lashed out at the vandal when reached by the Daily News on Sunday.

“Gay people are just outright bullies,” he said. “I expected them to act in a very violent way.”

The NYDN published a surveillance photo of the vandal (see below).

Tennessee Chick-Fil-A Vandalized With Pro-Gay Message: VIDEO

Chikfila

A Cookeville, Tennessee Chick-Fil-A got a facelift last week after vandals spray painted a message on the brick exterior of the establishment. Sprawled across the drive-thru line were the words: "God [Loves] Fags & Chicken!" The perpetrators are unknown, and Chick-Fil-A did not file a police report; the restaurant simply had the words removed with a pressure washing treatment. Still, the message is troubling for some gay rights advocates in the state who believe it does more harm than good.

News 2 Nashville reports:

The Tennessee Equality Project promotes equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Tennessee.

Executive Director Chris Sanders said no one affiliated with the TEP was involved in the vandalism and the TEP condemns it.

"It concerns us because our community has been the victim of that kind of violence and continues to be," he said. "What if during this act of vandalism someone was shutting down the Chick-fil-A or the cleaning crew was leaving and there had been a violent confrontation?"

Bias motivated vandalism and property damage is a relatively rare crime.

According to the TBI, in 2012 there were a total of nine incidents, eight were anti-homosexual and one was anti-heterosexual.

"We understand why people get angry about things in the news, things that happen and things that effect equality but there are very productive peaceful ways of dealing with them we think," Sanders said.
