New Zealand Paddle Boarder Has Incredible Close Encounter with Orca: VIDEO

Orca

Luke Reilly, a 27-year-old paddle boarder from New Zealand, had an extremely close encounter with a curious and playful orca on Monday, and captured it on his GoPro, 3News reports.

ReillyReilly went into the water after hearing someone had seen orcas and shortly thereafter found himself being checked out by one, which even grabbed the back of his board for a moment.

Said Reilly:

"I grabbed [my GoPro] thinking something might happen. I didn't think I'd get anything. Then this one bee-lined it for me. He popped up about 10cm away from the back of my board. I was a bit nervous thinking, 'what's this guy going to do?' Then he slowly crept up and grabbed the back of my board and I yelled, 'What are you doing!'"

Visit from Massive Sperm Whale Shocks and Delights Undersea Researchers: VIDEO

Sperm_whale

Researchers with E/V Nautilus, which is exploring the biology and geology of the oceans, run an ROV named Hercules operating at 1,962 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico and generally spend hours staring into a vast nothingness.

Which would explain their excitement when an extremely large object crossed the ROV's field of vision this week.

"What the heck is that?" they're heard exclaiming on the video.

It turned out to be a massive sperm whale which circled several times and because encounters between sperm whales and ROV's are incredibly rare, inspired squeals of delight from the biologists.

Texting Man Remains Blissfully Unaware of Humpback Whale Surfacing Next to Him: VIDEO

Whale Texting

The whole nose-in-phone culture is problematic, to say the least. It's not uncommon for people to suffer adverse interactions with reality while absorbed in the tiny glowing screen, but what is more common is missing out on the little wonders of life itself. A perfect example of this is the above photograph of a man texting on a phone while a humpback whale surfaces right next to his boat, mere feet away. Truly face-palm inducing.

ABC News has a video report that you can point and laugh at AFTER THE JUMP...

CBS Films Looking Into Removal Of Gay References From U.S. DVD Cover of 'Pride'

Screen Shot 2015-01-03 at 9.32.46 PM

The first image above is the original promotional artwork for Pride — the critically acclaimed 2014 film about gay activists who supported a bitter strike by British coal miners in the 1980s.

The second image is the back cover of the Pride DVD released in the US on Dec. 23.

Can you spot the difference?

That's right, the banner in the background saying "Lesbians & Gays Support The Miners" has been removed.

Screen Shot 2015-01-03 at 9.42.08 PMAdditionally, in the description of the film that appears on the back cover, the "London-based group of gay and lesbian activists" have been changed to just "a group of London-based activists," according to Pink News

The Hollywood Reporter has more

Ironically, those changes invert the plot of the film: Initially, the Welsh miners are more comfortable with the LGBT community’s monetary support than with its open sexual identity, but the miners ultimately become comfortable with their new supporters. Several characters come out during the course of the movie.

The film won several prizes at the British Independent Film Awards last month: the best British independent film award, along with best supporting actor and actress prizes for its stars Andrew Scott and Imelda Staunton, respectively.

Representatives for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, which released the disc in the U.S., and CBS Films, which acquired U.S. rights, did not respond to requests for comment.

CBS Films said on Twitter on Saturday afternoon that it's looking into the matter:
