James Franco Boyfriends Up to Zachary Quinto in First Official Still From Gay-Themed Film 'Michael'

Michael

While we've seen various shots posted by James Franco and Zachary Quinto on Instagram, this is the first official still we've seen from the film, in which Franco plays "ex-gay" activist Michael Glatze, writer for the (now shuttered) gay twink magazine XY and co-founder of the short-lived publication Young Gay America, who denounced his homosexuality and became a poster boy for that movement. Glatze also became a pastor and married a woman.

Gus van Sant is executive producing the film with Franco, Vince Jolivette, Scott Reed, Ron Singer and Joel Michaely as producers. It's based on the Benoit Denizet-Lewis NYT article "My Ex-Gay Friend".

Quinto plays Glatze's former boyfriend Bennett. The film also stars Teen Wolf's Charlie Carver.

The shot above appears in an American Film Market preview story in The Hollywood Reporter.

Quinto shared the above photo on Instagram with the caption, "literally watching the emmys as i change clothes between scenes for our movie... no complaints. GO FRIENDS!!!"

James Franco and Zachary Quinto Show Off Laid Back New Looks for Upcoming 'Ex-Gay' Film 'Michael'

Michael

James Franco and his Michael co-star Zachary Quinto debuted via Instagram this week their new looks for the upcoming film about 'ex-gay' activist Michael Glatze.

Franco now sports the 90s blonde look of Glatze, while Quinto shows off some bangs and more in an XY t-shirt. XY was the (now shuttered) gay twink magazine founded by Glatze back in 1996.

Wrote Franco

Let's Party! Blondes have more fun!! But do you respect me?????

Wrote Quinto:

a little xy trailer time (with early 2000s bangs) after my pretend beebee@jamesfrancotv told me to put my salmon lips on his bagels.

Quinto will reportedly play the former boyfriend of Glatze in the film.

Think these two are pulling off the 90s/early 2000s look?

James Franco continues to post images presumably shot during production of Michael, the film about 'ex-gay' activist Michael Glatze, co-starring Zachary Quinto. Franco posted one of he and his "new lover" Quinto earlier this week.

Writes Franco on Instagram: "Me and Quinto out with Molly! ...Molly is a girl I know! Wtf!"

Molly, of course, is the street name for the club drug MDMA. Madonna once got in trouble for mentioning it.
