Brokeback Exclusive: Heath and Jake Swap Spit

Towleroad's source very close to the production of the cowboy love story Brokeback Mountain which is currently shooting just outside Calgary, Canada, reports in that a kiss between actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger was shot yesterday. According to the source "the boys were a bit nervous at first, but eventually got into it and turned in a great scene." Towleroad isn't speculating as to what "got into it" means.
Apparently, the two actors were only having problems with the kiss, not any of the sexual scenes, like the following moment excerpted directly from the script:
INT. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN: CAMP: TENT: JUST BEFORE DAWN:
Both are warm inside JACK'S bedroll.
JACK is wide awake now. ENNIS, on his back is half-asleep.
JACK, tentative, takes one of ENNIS'S big hands from outside the bedroll
and guides it inside, down toward his own groin.
ENNIS, coming full awake, realizes where his hand is... jerks it away as
if he's touched fire.
Raises up, gets to his knees, unbuckles his belt, shoves his pants down
with one hand, uses the other to haul JACK up on all fours.
JACK doesn't resist.
ENNIS spits in the palm of his hand, puts it on himself.
They go at it in silence, except for a few sharp intakes of breath.
ENNIS shudders.
Recent reports that Ang Lee is nervous about including explicit love scenes may still hold true — all the gay stuff may yet end up on the cutting room floor, and the director has told the Calgary Sun that the sexual scenes will be "modest". However, anyone who has read Annie Proulx's heartwrenching story will know that this forbidden love is at the center of the tale. Ang Lee would also be a fool to let such a potent, buzz-building, controversial, and lust-inducing element fall by the wayside.
In March, Ledger told the BBC, "What is it about wrangling Jake Gyllenhaal up in the mountains that frightens me? Just that! But it obviously doesn't scare me away because I'm doing it. Aren't we at the stage these days when it just doesn't ******* matter? It's a story of love and it's a story between two people. If people can't get over that and just accept it as a story, then that's their problem. I'm big enough and brave enough to do it in the fact that being brave is having to answer questions like that."
Just recently, Gyllenhaal deflected rumors that he was nervous about the role, telling the Calgary Sun that he understood the nature of the part, and intimating that he may have had a male crush at one time: "It’s about how impossible love can be sometimes and I can relate to that. I grew up in a family where many of our close friends were gay couples. As well as that, every man goes through a period of thinking they’re attracted to another guy.”
The film's gay storyline continues to create tremendous buzz because few if any young leading male actors have had the courage so far to step out into romantic gay roles in films of this scope. We'll hold out hope that none of the controversy is left in the editing room.

Everytime I see the name of that movie, I think, "BAREback Mountain"

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for posting this information about this movie. I simply can't wait to see it... and hope it captures at least some of the story.

wait, are we all talking about that dream I had last night? They're making a movie out of it??? (jk)
Lee would be a fool to back away from the controversy and the sexual theme that is the axis of the entire story. As John Updike said: "Once you start something, it's lethal not to go through with it"... He was right.
Thanks for the post and continued updates. You never cease to impress.
And Scott: I'm sure that's the name of the forthcoming porn (*no pun intended) -if it hasn't been made already.

What's truly surprising about Ang Lee's reticence is that he's already directed a very honest gay film, "The Wedding Banquet". There weren't any sex scenes but I believe there was some very passionate kissing between the male leads.

Whoo hooo! Can't wait (especially for the Director's cut).

You know your mind is in the gutter when you read the title as "Bareback Mountain." (eyes roll.)
I need to get out more. :)

Great post! I'm hoping the movie lives up to the short story. Ang Lee screwed with the Hulk, hopefully he won't screw with the sex. Jake Gyllenhaal IS cute enough to sit through two and half hours of The Day After Tomorrow, but he seem wishy washy about Brokeback during publicity for TDAT on Leno.

I'm glad towleroad has sources for this particular movie. Like a lot of queer Proulx fans, I've been waiting for this has been long overdue. And if Ang Lee does in fact cut out any of the heart-pounding sex, I will demand a refund. After all, the sex is the foundation. Well, in some way it is.

Huh huh huh... Ennis rhymes with_______.
That Annie Proulx is a crazy one, naming her characters after body parts. I think there's a Mulva in her next novel.

I think this will be a great step.
People need to get over things in life, why do people care so much about everything?
I think everything should be left the way it is and it will be great...
There are male/female sex scenes in movies without controversy, why is this any different?
I can't wait to see it! It'll be a great one!

Ok, i am very excited about this, i wont deny by saying seeing these hot guys making out wont be hot, but seeing a gay love story in the box office is gonna be great!

Am just haunting yet *another* "Brokeback Mountain" message board to put my two cents in.
I've high hopes for this film, and I'll admit that ever so often I'll find myself obsessively rereading the short story and longing to see how it plays out on the silverscreen, so, I guess I'll just wait and pray for the best like the rest of you lot. :D Frankly, sex-wise, as long as that snippet of the script stays in, (to illustrate the visceral nature of their relationship at first, of course), I will be one satisfied fangirl.
It would be a shame to let the eye-candy go to waste, after all. *g*

I was extremely excited and delighted to find out about this movie. I first heard about it on Vh1's "Totally Gayer" tv show and followed up by readind the article it refered to in Variety. The kicker for me was finding out that two hot young hollywood actors were signed on to do it. That alone would draw me to the theaters. But as I am a fan of shows like Queer as Folk for obvious reasons I pray that dir. Ang Lee does not disappoint in the love scene department because that's what I think about everytime I see a picture of Jake/Heath. So this girl is keeping her fingers crossed.
Posted by: slyfoxx | Jul 6, 2004 4:44:35 AM
omg I am so exited about this movie! Jake is sooo cute and so is Heath. I just saw The Day After Tommorow this afternoon and I almost melted. Heh. Though the movie itself was good. I'm going out to buy the Brokeback book soon and I cant wait to read it!
Posted by: Joe | Jul 8, 2004 10:57:02 PM
Ang Lee can not, and I mean CAN NOT get rid of the sex scenes! Screw the rest of the world! Get a back bone Lee and put it in the movie!!! If not, well then he's just a chicken and the boys work of making out and making love will be put to waste! Sheez. I hope he bloody thinks about that one!!!

Jake Gyllenhaal IS AN incrediable Actor and the fact that he took time to do a movie means that it must be worth seeing. I hope that the movie will be as good as the book. This was about an incredable love story. It's about love and how we find it in them most confusing places. Ledger and Gyllenhaal will do a wounderful Job developing the depth that the caracters in this move will have to possess. I am excited to see the move and I hope that is dose not turn into a sex pot but a movie that shows the depth of love, and the understanding that things are not always how they should be.

I'm really glad to see a big-screen gay romance being made. After so many mockeries and jokes being made of it (remember 'Boat Trip'?) it's nice to see a movie which isn't a parody of a gay relationship, or a romance with incidental gay characters, or anything but a good solid romance that just happens to be the trials and tribulations of two *men* in love, not a man and a woman. I'm exceedingly proud of the actors for having the balls to do this, and I'll look forward to seeing it, even if they do keep it 'modest'

maybe it's just me but no sex scene = no profit for me. i'll be disappointed if the intimacy is modest, but i'll still pay good money to see it (keeping in mind, it should've been more explicit)

If this movie does not have at least one sex scene then it's not worth seeing. If Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal are both willing to do a sex scene then it should be in the movie. We're ready for it, the world's ready for it. There of course is going to be some controversy about this movie but whether or not there are sex scenes theres going to be controversy on just the fact that this movie is about gay lovers. But I hope that Lee takes a chance and doesn't let those people stop what could be a great film.

I will be very upset if Ang goes the way of Oliver Stone and his pathetic attempt to drum up controversy for a movie and then not bring the goods. This whole story is based on a very physical and emotional attachment between Ennis and Jack. To not show the intensity of their relationship that *gasp* manifests itself in sex is absurb and completely destroys the story itself. Nearly everytime these two see each other, they engage in sex because it's the quickest way to really be intimate with someone, especially one you haven't seen in awhile and love. Ang will get reamed (no pun intended) if he doesn't do jusitce by this short story.

This is one of my most anticipated future releases. Not just because both actors are awesome, and good looking, and seeing them *together* will be the hottest thing since anything ever, but also because it is damn well about time that a male/male romance made it to wide release, and starred well-known actors. From what I've read, this film looks promising, and I plan on bringing everyone I can to see it, because with support, maybe the studios will provide us all with some more variety in their romantic films. My heartfelt congratulations and respect to everyone involved for having the courage and openmindedness to do this. You rock and we thank you! Cheers!

I oh so hope that the scenes aren't cut too much. who give a flying **** if its about gay people. I have 2 gay friends and one is out of the closet to everyone and he gets discriminated for it all the time. Who cares if you are gay? Its just the way you are! I've been waiting for a very long time for a movie about gay lovers that weren't girls. Have you ever noticed that people don't usually have problems with lesbians, atleast in my town and where I am, it's mostly the guys that get discriminated around my parts. Its horrible.People need to get over theirselves and face life. Just because a person is gay doesn't mean they are "the devil" or evil. They are just like you and me. If God said being gay is a sin, then why are there so many gay people out there?..... I think this movie with hit it off big time with the gay community and the "girls who love seeing guys kiss" community. Off I go

Jake Gyllenhaal is really really REALLY hot. I loved him in Donnie Darko and bubble boy and just everything hes a really good actor, and it doesnt hurt that hes hot as well teehee. And usually I wouldn't be into that kind of thing in a movie but i must admit that scene does sound very hot! lol. I want to see it!

How ignorant...calling "Brokeback Mountain" gay porn? If that was a sex scene between a man and a woman...I doubt as many people would call it "porn". Films are riddled with explicit sex scenes between men and women...that doesn't stop them from being critically aclaimed (remember "Monster"?...which, coincidentally, stars Heath Ledger as well). Then all of a sudden "Alexander" came out and all people can talk about is the fact that Colin Farell's character is bisexual. On that note, I'm sure "Brokeback Mountain" is about more than just two guys being gay.
If this is a movie about love...then so be it...and don't be so eager to label sex scenes as "gay porn" just because the action is taking place between homosexuals.
Props to Jake (hothothot! and talented to boot!) and Heath! I can't wait to see the movie.

I remember the buzz when "Making Love" came out. Many people said "gee, they could have told the story without the kiss" I hope we're over that now. And since the movie Money is with 15 to 20 year olds who will see the same movie over and over, hopefully the almighty $$$ will give Lee the guts to keep the story together. Cheers to Heath and Jake, both great actors. Loved "Four Feathers" and "October Sky"

I just read the book last night. It is excellent, every bit of it. I hope the director doesn't shy away from the sexuality, either. It's not gratuitous, it would be a shame to leave out the few major moments where it drives the story forward. We'll see... (I hope)

this movie is going to rock my world. i can't believe that it is actually going to be released because of all of the hype it's gotten... good and bad
but i am so excited i can't even pause to think about it. i haven't even got the book yet but i preordered it and DAMN, it's not going to be here until NOVEMBER. and the movie's not out until DECEMBER. argh. i have a whole quarter of college to wait through until i can see it.
but the entire storyline about love, secrets, self denile, and acceptence are very true to life forces and i'm sure nearly everyone in the audience will find a way to connect, as long as they keep an open mind.
i hate people with closed minds.
SO EMBRACE THE BEAUTY THAT IS... ART!!

Unable to wait any longer for the official December debut of Brokeback Mountain, I flew from Texas to the Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend specifically to see the Canadian premiere of the film. It was truly one of the top two movies I've ever seen in all my 36 years. I had read the short story by Annie Proulx twice prior to seeing the film. The movie unfolded exactly as I had pictured the events and characters in my mind. Larry McMurtry and the author did well to portray the harsh lives of two very poor young men who had nothing but the raw beauty of rural Wyoming and themselves to bring them comfort in an otherwise unforgiving time in their lives. I was seriously moved by this movie. You'll find that it will be forever etched in your mind as it tends to haunt you afterwards with a bittersweet yearning for that impossible, unfinished love the two men shared. If you have a chance to read the book, do. It will explain some of the scenes in the film that otherwise don't make sense. Seriously - this film will live with you for a long, long time.

I caught Brokeback Mountain this Sept. at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie has the feel of an old fashioned epic western, complete with dramatic scenery, fistfights and a slow and linear pace. That the two male leads have a passionate and sexual relationship, something that would never have been permitted, let alone explored in the heyday of the traditional western, is a welcome variation to the hetero-centric versions of the genre. Ledger and Gyllenhaal do Annie Proulx’s story justice, and particularly Ledger stands out as the taciturn Ennis. The love scenes between the two men came across as authentic and unforced. I have reservations about the film’s length- near the end, it wanders and gets sidetracked, dissipating the emotional impact of the ending. As well, some of the musical score was intrusive and unnecessary. That said, I commend director Ang Lee’s courage and sensitivity in translating this heart-wrenching story to the screen. I connected with the movie on an emotional level, and will see it again when it comes out in general release. PS…I find it somewhat ironic that the movie was filmed in Alberta, the Canadian province most resistant to the now countrywide law allowing gay couples the right to marry.

Hi. Thank you very much for sharing this information with us. I'm Michael From Colorado Springs. I really can't wait to see this movie. I actually agree with Heath Ledger and what He personally says about the film. YOU GO HEATH. I think this movie will be really great. I think that Ang Lee should do the movie however way he wants it. Who cares what other people would think about the gay sexuality and sexual scenes. It's Ang Lee's own special way of portraying the Movie from the Top-Selling novel. It's his own freedom of speech of however way he wants the sex scenes to be portrayed in this movie. Shoot, Show whatever you want. I'm rooting for you and are 100 percent behind you on this film Ang Lee. Good Luck. You have my blessing. And I think the cast are doing a great job too. Especially Heath Ledger and Jake Gylenhaal. Bring a really great Motion Picture to us guys. I'm rooting for you all the way. Good Luck All Of You!!! (-:

We can't wait to see the movie. It parallels much in our two lives. I was raised on a sheep and cattle farm in Idaho in the late 60s and while in college met a cowboy rancher. It lasted several years, until I got my doctorate in animal sciences and he got married (he's still stuck on his farm going nowhere). Ten years ago I met another cowboy who had finally divorced his wife after she figured out we were more than hunting partners after several years. And we intend to live happily ever after.

To all those people who are so intent on seeing the sex scene included in the final cut of this movie: and you wonder why there are so many movies portraying gay relationships superficially or movies with "incidental gay characters." You're putting so much emphasis on the sex that it seems you don't give a damn about the story. You're a bunch of sex addicts.
Posted by: brodymdude | Oct 6, 2005 3:32:22 AM
I just saw the trailer opn IFC. I was shocked...not by the content but by the honesty. I can't wait to see this love story. There are so many stories in our community and it is about time that they are honestly told. I hope Lee doesn't give in to the usual suspects in filedom. we need his honesty.
Posted by: Honey | Oct 6, 2005 7:57:54 AM
Following up on the previous two remarks--I read the story over a week ago and still become emotional when thinking about certain scenes. And it's not the sex, which aside from that passionate kiss is not really explicit at all. I mean, the phrase "erect cock" may have been shocking in the New Yorker back whenever, but really ... In fact I am amazed at Annie Proulx's mastery of innuendo and the unspoken. It's incredible that this story has had such an impact on so many, and I don't think it's due to the "pivotal" scene (pun intended if you've read the story). I am anxious to see how these guys touch and hold each other in the movie--those meaningful gestures that I think homophobes (and maybe just American men in general) are REALLY afraid of.
Posted by: Rand | Oct 6, 2005 2:21:06 PM
Right on RAND...
You've all got to read this story...it is almost as spare as poetry; each descriptive phrase and piece of dialog packs power.
The shirts will tear you up...that simple, corny, heartfelt gesture sums up all of the regret, love, loss, and secretiveness present in the story. Who hasn't grabbed the clothing of a loved one and taken in a powerful memory. How harrowing to smell nothing.
But I digress...the sex is as important as it is for any relationship, gay or straight...in this story it is not the most powerful element, but a fair representation of these guy's physicality, and a force that keeps bringing them together.

i think that its cool. i dont think ive ever seen a movie with gay guys. but they chose the right two. yes i am against gay marriage and stuff like that but its just a movie.i people are making a big deal out of that then i dont think they realize the true part of it. people are in love. you cant help who you love guy or girl.not to be like rude or gross but if your gonna pick two guys two be gay on screen they're the right ones. i have seen them act before and they are fantastic!!! the book is also one of my favorites.

This movie is fab! When it comes to your town go see it, don't wait for the DVD, even though we are all going to buy the DVD. I had not read the original story, but I imagine that the movie remains true to the vision from what I have read. This is THE movie of the year for all Queers. Even the Lesbians in the audience loved the film. Get your straight friends to this movie. When Jake Gyllenhaal introduced the film he said something like "there was a hole on the shelf, a spot where this belonged" Everyone involved with this film deserves praise.

I think the movie sounds good but I do agree that they should leave the explicit love scenes out, because not many people would except that. Something like that could mess up there carrier. Alot of male actors dont do nude scenes because of that.

My partner and I saw this movie at the Columbia County Film Festival in upstate NY a couple of weeks back. Definitely a must see for anyone. The theater was packed with straights and gays, young and not so young. The reaction that we heard from everyone was that the movie was very well done. For us, to see this powerful story on film was bittersweet. The struggle that those before us went through just to hide who they were to world is a reminder of how far we have come. I'll share one comment overheard after the film, spoken by a middle aged man to his wife: "I thought the movie was very well done, but I just didn't understand the relationship." I smiled and thought about how lucky I am to live where I do. See this movie. Not for the only for the sex scenes (which are HOT), but for the love story of two people who struggle with who they are and how they live in the world. For that, after all, is a universally understood experience. The performances of all, including the supporting cast, are wonderful as well. The performances of the actresses who played the wives and girlfriends of the two central characters are absolutely amazing.

I think its great that two big stars like this are doing serious gay roles, it's about time gay characters were portrayed with some sincerity, not just minor characters or over the top farcical ones. Really looking forward to it!
And yes they are hot as hell.

I am very excited to have just learned about this film YESTERDAY, while watching the Tonight Show. Ebert and Roeper were on and Leno was commenting on Oscar candidates, and joked about the humorous prospect of straight guys going to the theater to see a "good ol' western" film without previous knowledge of the storyline.
I have been reading reviews, message boards and of course seen the trailer now. The movies have always offered caricatures of homosexuals or incidental gay roles, but the last time I was so inspired and pleased to see a MAINSTREAM feature film dealing with male love was in "Making Love" from 1982, which was ahead of its time. As with subsequent TV movies like 1985's "Consenting Adult" and "An Early Frost", I am glad once again there is a chance for everyday society (not just gay film followers or indie-flick aficionados at alternative theater houses) to see any form of romance and love as a human thing, a sexual thing, a genuine and honest thing ...a beautiful thing. Others, like "Fried Green Tomatoes", "My Own Private Idaho", "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and even "Alexander" tried too hard to sidestep the issue as not to alienate audiences. I hope this will again allow society to see men the way a lot of women would like, without the obligatory macho facade or stoic demeanor they feel is expected of "real men" (many females have been candid about their secret desire to see "straight" guys, even their boyfriends, intimate with another guy). This movie and those like it give me new-found hope to shoot for the "real thing" and somehow legitimizes my longtime and innate same-sex attraction in the same way it has historically been depicted for heterosexual couples.
Sometimes I wonder, even though I keep myself in good shape, well-groomed, and regularly receive attention for my looks, why I don't feel fulfilled with casual and mechanical sex anymore or why explicit porn doesn't really "do it for me". Often I think that my libido has waned, and then something like this comes along. Maybe I am stuck on an unrealistic and idealistic notion of romance, but what I really long for is a combination of love, understanding, companionship and THEN the sex to express it; I find sex especially hot in this context. I know this story is going to hit a real nerve with me, just like I suddenly well-up when I see a compassionate yet charming character in a TV movie, or someone captivating I identify with in a candid interview.
I am just a relatively young, decent and genuine guy, not some homosexual stereotype at all, and I come off as "straight" to those who don't know, but something like this can unexpectedly strike a chord that brings me to tears, as if I was validated and am for the first time seeing myself and what I have to offer more clearly. It will be cathartic when I do see it (if it isn't already), and somewhat comforting after recently losing both parents and the dog I had forever, to think maybe I can finally love and be loved the way I've always wanted. I can hardly wait.

I can not wait to see this movie. I have been reading everything I can. The reviews from the critics have been nearly unanimous in their praise. Just viewing the trailer and the Logo and VH1 special have been very moving to me and others. I am hopeful that the gay and straight (but nor narrow) communities will unite and storm the box offices when this movie finally comes to your community. I understand, by the way, that in some cases this may not be until well after the holidays. If it is not scheduled for your community demand to know why not. We need to send a message to Hollywood and the fat cat owners of the movie cineplexes, that the American public can appreciate a story line with gay love as a theme. This is our chance to demand to see more movies like this instead of sequels and remakes of TV shows and classic movies.
I want to THANK Focus Features, Ang Lee, Jake, Heath, the cast, and the entire production crew for making a movie that will be chronicled as among the high watermarks for promoting understanding and acceptance of the gay community and for future American movies to achieve. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

When is Hollywood and the fashion industry going to realize that most of us AREN'T GAY.
Can I please buy a plain, black shirt that doesn't have frillies or french cuffs or those stupid white buttons on the collars? For cryin' out loud, we're not all gay!
I'll be sure to skip "Butt-Fuck Mountain" with the rest of the "breeders."

In Australia we have another month to wait to see Heath and Jake do the nasty and to swap spit. But if the short story is anything to go by it will be worth the wait. Australians are known for their mateship and manly hugs, but this kicks the bitch totally. Quite a few 'fishing buddies' will be outed by this movie.
If Heath and Jake want to revisit their experiences in the movie my bed is always available - it'll hold three or four at a pinch!
I'm obsessed with the movie. Have images on my desk top I stare at, watch the preview every couple of days. Now I've found towleroad.com I'll have to come back more often. Thanks for a great post.

Mr "Normal Guy," if you're an example of "normal" and what's responsible for mankind's future as a "breeder" it's no wonder our race is doomed. You sound like one of those guys who refuse to believe that they no longer wear a size 32 waist while their gut hangs over their their belt that's wrapped around their butt cheeks.
Hopefully this will be a good telling of a story, true to the author's vision and characterization.

Loved the movie. Too bad it wasn't based on a true story as I'm willing to bet it's happend many times before. And, not just in Wyoming. I fell for these guys hard as they are gorgeous and all. A little hard to hear at times and mumbled too much, but I forgive them. Now, if we can continue to enhance the way we protray gay men I'd be happy. This helped, but it's not enough as they didn't grow much and remained stuck. Oh, well.

Well, people who say this is gay porn look at it as its gay porn, but you its not its a romantic love story about how people lived in the 60's and how hard things were because homosexuality was a terrible thing. Its basically a struggle for both of them. I say conratulations to Ang lee, heath leder, Jake Gyllenhaal for the excellent movie that is Brokeback mountain. I can also say that I have never cried at a movie before but this had me in tears, and my friends. I loved every minute of it and thought that it couldn't of been done any better. I cant wait for it to come out on DVD.

This was a beautiful movie. I found myself longing for more passionate love making scenes and it came up short. I wish they could have spent more time together. Jake Gyllenhall was such a warm, loving character and a pleasure to curl up with. I found it hard to hear what they were saying, there was a lot of mumbling in this movie. When I watch it again I will put in closed captioning!

Amazing that people are still posting away. I outgrew the comments section on my blog, and we started a Brokeback Discussion forum. 8,000 posts in the last two weeks:

And we now have a team of volunteers updating the links in our Ultimate Brokeback Guide nightly--about a dozen new links per day:

A mi país no ha llegado, pero he visto imagenes y trailers en la red.
Creo que es un cliché....que todas las historias gay terminan mal, con los protagonistas sufriendo, en tragedia.
Creo que la ambientación es buena...pero no tenía porqué ser 'necesariamente' un drama.

This movie is one of the best I have seen for a long time! Thank you Ang Lee for producing the story that most of us gay/bisexual or straight men for that matter go through when we fall in love! Love is a brilliant thing but can be mendlesome at times and we forget at times that love can and will hurt! This film makes you feel like theres hope out there for your perfect partner and that we should never give up for what we have put so much into!! Love!

omg ! i can't stand the comments some ppl are saying about this movie. i mean, i don't agree w/ homosexuality, but it's there, and shouldn't be concealed by one sex if the other is allowed to flaunt it. if it were a scene between to girls it wouldn't be a problem - so why should it be a problem for males? the sex scenes should not be cut out- doing so would be contributing to the double standards between female homsexuality and male homosexuality when they should be considered no more or less than heterosexuality. just because this doesn't apply to the heterosexual male fanasty it doesn't mean it's "morally wrong" .

OMG this movie is GREAT!!! At the end when Jack got killed and Ennis went to Jack's house and found his shirt, that part make me cry... this story is truthly touching. Q.how does jack died? his wife say he was drowned of his blood or those three guys murder him with the axes?

I liked Brokeback Mountain. It was a great movie about two bisexual men falling in love, before they married women and tried to lead "straight" lives, the trap so many GLBT people fall into. It was a touching story.

i am not a fan of gay movies. Or maybe i should say i never even saw one. This movie was so good that it just made me want to cry! Just the love that these two had for one another. The secrer that was kept seemed to destroy all kinds of lives(whether gay or hetero.) THis film has opened my eyes!!

It was great! Can't believe Jake died! Poor Ennis! Poor me, I never got to see them fall in love and live happily ever after -- TOGETHER!!! They made a great couple! I know.. they were just characters, but still! The passion they shared, any straight couple would just dream of having for each other! It's something about man to man love, indescribable -- of and the sex, that's good too! ;-)

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN BROKE MY HEART !!!
I'm just coming out from the theatre - overwhelmed by this wonderful story.
Thank you, Mr. Ang Lee! And compliments to Jake Gyllenhaal (he's so cute and handsome!) and Heath Ledger for their impressing and powerful play!!!
Can't wait for the DVD to be released..!

-Pickup Trucks. The trucks driven by Ennis and Jack are different,it is interesting that both had black GMCs and the same model 1966 Ford pickups.
-In the scene jack is leaving Signal, looking at Ennis in the mirror... if only he turned went around the block he would have found Ennis in the alley "Ennis, quit your hammering and get the hell here (the truck)" You can imagine it crossed Jack mind as he drives away. Of course there wouldn't have been a story.

-Their only time in "Brokeback" was that first summer. The book states this and Ennis mentions this to Jacks wife. the camping trips were mostly on Wyomings Big Horn mtns.
-In the final scene together (only time shown where they are together to comfort one anothers tears)Ennis says "I can't stand this anymore Jack". I take this to mean he is just about ready to give in and be with Jack- in the near future if not that moment. "If you can fix ir you gotta stand...."
Posted by: Mark Chandleer | Jun 5, 2006 5:09:29 PM
-not really said in the film, I think Ennis did not want to be the one to take Jack from his young son.
-When Elma junior visits and says "they can find themselves another cowboy" the look of regret-if only he had done that the last time he saw Jack...
-"Jack, I swear..." When he had found the shirts any doubts Ennis had about the way Jack had felt about him melted away. "...if only I had never let go that summer so long ago before it was to late...
Posted by: Mark Chandleer | Jun 5, 2006 5:32:42 PM
-In the scene with Jack peeling potatoes. If you look real close and don't blink, you see that Jack does glance at Ennis bathing. you have to watch the eyebrows. It's that quick.
-"I aint queer" Later in the day after the first night together after Jack does the camp chores, including washing Ennis shirt, he rides to to where Ennis is with the sheep. This is a special trip, not a ride he would normally make. Brilliant how this scene was held, so you know that sat together close in silence for some time. Obvious to eveyrone else but I missed this at first.

I think this was the best movie Jake Gyllenhaal did, other than his other movie, The Day After Tomorrow. He was a very outgoing and talkative guy. He tries to open up to Ennis and it works. I just love watching the sex scene and where they kiss. That shows that they're really falling in LOVE with each other. One sad part of the movie is where they get into a fight where Jack has a bruise on the side of his face and Ennis with a bloody nose. Another sad part is where Jack and Ennis leave for the summer and Ennis goes into an alleyway and he gets very sick because he already missed Jack. The very sad part was when Ennis finds out that Jack is dead. The most powerful part of the movie was when Ennis says, "Jack, I swear..." and where you see Ennis go into Jack's childhood bedroom and he finds Jack's blue shirt with blood on the sleeve and he finds his shirt tucked inside Jack's. This movie can touch you in a million ways. If you keep watching it, you would cry every time you see the ending. This is a VERY powerful movie.

I saw this movie for the first time on cable tv. It was even better than I expected. It's not just a story about "gay" men but 2 people who really love each other. The first time I saw it i broke down crying because it reminded me of me and my true love whom I let go of. I watch it every time its on and I am going to go get the DVD, and yes I still cry.

i think that people are really missing something in this movie it's a story of love.I have heard all kinds of comments gay porn sucks. oh god they look so hot.People are very ignorant by saying that they don't get that love can be not just a man and a women but i can also be two men or two women love is when you feel great and really special around a person and it doesn't matter it's sex if you love someone go for it don't back of because of what the people might say live your love because they are living theirs jake is my favorite actor he and heath did a wonderful job the both know the meaning of acting.I support all kinds of orientations go guys and girls specially go jake and heath

I thought that The Return of the King was the best film! Without all the stunts, special effects and cost, BBM is easily as terrific! I'm so pleased. No, I'm not gay, nor lesbian, just an improved person for having enjoyed it so much.

this movie is defiantly one of my favourites. i don't care what people think about it just because it's about to gay people. anyone with a heart will love & appreciate this movie. i watched it last night, & i cried heaps. i've seen it quite a few times now. i love it that much. it makes me cry everytime. truely one of the best films of all time. x

Emily, it won more awards than any other movie that failed to win the Best Picture Oscar. And we all know why it was denied the Oscar, after winning practically every other film award. But the movie is still out there, and will still be appreciated for years to come, long after the lame "Crash" has been forgotten. Brokeback is a classic, this generation's "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Posted by: Johnny | Jul 29, 2007 8:45:17 AM
I think that the film is amazing! And Jake Gyllenhaal is so hot in it even though he is acting as a gay cowboy. I thought he was hot in donnie darko, but last night I had a dream that I was with Jake In a film where he had to kiss me! even though Im about 10 years younger than him. Jake is not gay! he is just acting a role where he is gay and viewers should see the overall beauty of the true love in the film and not just call it "the gay cowboy movie".
Posted by: sexypink | Aug 11, 2007 3:41:49 PM
This film really make to explore more about the gay sex. I love if Heath makes love with me. He is such a great lover, good kisser & good fucking too.

I'm sure there's a true body & feeling relationship between Jake & Leger. They are just cover up with having a relationship with girls. Sorry Michelle & Renee. They are the Truth Lover. I'm felt sorry to Jake for the losing of Leger. There will always a someonme special for you out there But NOT RENEE.
