Best gay blog. Towleroad Wins Award

11/18/2005

road.jpg Remember the too-good-to-be-true claims of Andrew Stimpson, who said last week that his body had been eradicated of HIV? A medical first? Well, turns out, as many suspected, Stimpson never had HIV in the first place.

road.jpg "Frozen" on ice. Madonna has lost a plagiarism suit in which a Belgian songwriter accused the singer of lifting parts of his song "Ma Vie Fout L'camp (My Life's Getting Nowhere)" and using them in her hit "Frozen" from 1998's Ray of Light. A judge ruled that "Frozen" can no longer be broadcast or sold in that country. In other news, Madonna's Maverick TV inked a deal to develop a Melrose Place-style soap for the LOGO network, Variety reported today. The soap will "follow the lives and loves of a group of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender friends and foes living in the same apartment complex" and is tentatively titled San Rafael.

road.jpg Olivia Newton-John says she'll never sell her skintight pants from Grease: "There's no way I'd ever sell them. I mean, I might not be able to fit into them any more but I like to look at them and remember when I could."

road.jpg Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the screenwriter who collaborated on a Theo van Gogh film about the sexual abuse of women in Muslim society has written a sequel, about the relationship between gays and Islam. Van Gogh's throat was cut by a Muslim radical in the streets of Amsterdam in 2004 after their film was broadcast on television. (thanks jeff)

  1. I adore Ayaan. She totally rocks!

  2. Anybody who thinks that peace with the Arabs is possible should seek help. They're not like us. They have no conscience and they place no value on human life.

    Taming Alligators would be easier.

  3. Yeah. And you know those gay men. All crazed with sex, none of them monogamous, all of them wearing leather or women's clothes...

It's the 21st century, Jay. Racial, ethnic, and religious groups aren't "one personality trait fits all." So don't try to act like there's some great invisible "they" who wants to destroy freedom and puppies.

  4. Sorry Justin, but Jay's completely right and none of your "politically correct" nonsense can change that. For some reason I find that gays (especially on this blog) are so quick to attack Fundamental Christians in this country, and yet so quick to defend Muslims when anything is said against them. Many of you may not realize this yet, but Muslims are (by far) the greatest threat to the gay community in this world. While other religions are evolving (granted, some more slowly than others) Muslims refuse to allow ANY change of thought on ANY progressive ideas. When they immigrate to countries, they do not make any attempts to assimilate into the culture of their new homes... their religion is STRONGLY against that. Something that France is now learning the hard way. And Muslims don't just discriminate against gays (or deny them marriage rights)... they beat them, torture them, and hang them.

  5. Andy, please check the link on your blurb about Stimpson. It doesn't link to your source, and I'm interested.

  6. OK, Robert, first thing to get into your fevered, anti-Muslim brow is that "Arabs" and "Muslims" are not the same thing. The former is an ethnic identity, the latter a religious one. Some Arabs are Muslim, some are not; some Muslims are Arab, some are not. Jay referred to Arabs in his disgusting screed; you went off on Muslims. You're both hateful assholes, but you're talking about two different things. (Sorry to be so blunt in my language, but we wouldn't want any "politically correct nonsense" now, would we?)

So now that we've established you're an ignorant fuck, let's move on to the substance (and I use that term very loosely) of your diatribe. There are so many things wrong with it (e.g., your understanding of what's happening in France is laughable) that it's hard to know where to begin, but basically, it's this: Yes, there are some Muslims, and some governments dominated by Muslims, who use Islam to justify all sorts of horrid acts against gays (and other people, too). But to say flatly, as you do, that Islam is inherently anti-gay, and that all Muslims are retrograde homophobes, is just prejudiced, tribal thinking of the basest kind. It's precisely the kind of thinking that has been used to justify persecution of "others" since time immemorial, including against gays. You're no better than the people you condemn.

  9. Glenn, you are a naive idiot. First of all, the originaly post on this blog was about a movie being made on the relationship between gays and Islam, not gays and Arabs, which is why I specificall mentioned Muslims (not Arabs) in my response. Jay incorrectly characterized them as Arabs, but I understood what he was referring to, and remained on the initial topic of gays and Islam. Islam IS inherently anti-gay, you "ignorant fuck" (using your words). To think anything else just demonstrates how little you know about this topic. And I would love to hear what you think is going on right now in France with the Muslim riots, since you're such a genius on Muslim relations.

    jake gyllenhaal.

  12. Well, the riots aren't "Muslim riots." And Islam is no more inherently anti-gay than christianity or judaism. Glenn is correct, too generalize an entire group or religion is ridiculous.

    Posted by: tara | Nov 18, 2005 8:03:23 PM

  13. Well, the riots are goddamn Muslim riots, and when I said ARAB I meant ARAB. Even the Lebanese won't claim to be Arabs. Arabs are vicious, destructive, and the sworn enemies of anyone who is not an Arab. Muslims, on the other hand, come in all colors, races and from all socio-political backgrounds.

Posted by: Jay Croce | Nov 18, 2005 9:08:30 PM

  14. Tara, I'm against all religions, but Muslims KILL people who are gay. This is what the Qu'ran says about homosexuality:

"When a man mounts another man, the throne of God shakes. Kill the one that is doing it and also kill the one that it is being done to." (in reference to the active and passive partners in gay sexual intercourse)

The Hanabalites, (widely followed in the Arab world) teach that severe punishment is warranted.

And it is estimated that 4,000 homosexuals have been executed in Iran since 1979.

  16. I heart ONJ - more Grease and less Hate please.

    Posted by: max | Nov 19, 2005 5:41:42 AM

  17. Robert, you think Muslims are the only religion to kill gays? Do a google search for christians killing gays and then spend the rest of your life counting the links. Just look at the gay-bashing crimes in the US (another solid google search) and most are directly tied to puritanical religious (christian) assholes. And then there's Fred Phelps, is he Muslim? I believe he calls himself a Christian...

I'm not arguing with you, because you're just plain wrong. Don't blame all of the gay hate on the Muslims, and don't pretend that ONLY the muslims kill gays, because that's not the case at all, nor has it ever been.
