Elton_donatellaroad.jpg Donatella Versace says Elton John and David Furnish are getting married to bolster gay rights: "Elton John is my best friend, along with Madonna and Sting. His wedding to David, after 14 years of living together, is a way of helping the gay world affirm its rights. I'll give Elton a set of travel accessories and other objects for the home, which he loves. At the reception I'll wear an embroidered blue dress, with bag and shoes by Versace, obviously." Other guests at the reception will include David and Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley, and Gary Barlow. Elton was reportedly offered $10 million for media rights but turned it down. Not turned down was a videotaped message from Bill Clinton to be played at the singer's "hen night" tonight.

  5. I used to think Fred Phelps was a menace, but I've changed my mind. I say let him do his thing. The more he's out there playing the part of "the ugly Christian bigot," the more he turns people against his agenda. Phelps’s trail of shattered Christianity now extends from coast to coast. Thanks to Phelps's crusade, rural America has woken up to the reality that Homosexuality exists right in their towns and isn't some far away thing afflicting San Francisco.

Though not his intention, oddly, Phelps is helping to bring a new awareness to the existence of the rural closet, planting the “gay issue” right onto the doorsteps of values voting America. The more absurd, vulgar and fanatical Phelps makes himself appear, the more he subverts his own cause. Having Fred Phelps out roaming the nation, foaming at the mouth and offending everyone along the way, is far better than having him censured and out of the public's view. Believe it or not, I have come to realize that Phelps’s crusade has given us an unexpected opportunity to engage with salt of the earth Americans. Given this, it is now incumbent upon Gay Political Leadership to make the effort to capitalize on this opportunity, striking while the public’s disgust for Phelps is still fresh and palpable. We have a chance to mold a new more positive and familiar image for rural Gay Americans.
