Tina Fey on Hillary: 'Bitch is the New Black'

Tinafey

In Saturday Night Live's welcomed return to the airwaves over the weekend, Tina Fey unloaded on sexist Clinton critics. The show scored its highest overnight rating in two years.

The weekend update segment also included an appearance by Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who, echoing his behavior in the Republican race for the nomination, wouldn't leave.

Both clips, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. Both were brilliant, and a little too true.

  2. I could not get past the opening segment and turned it off. Somehow, staying up late to watch E-List entertainers mug it up while barely able to read off cue cards just does nothing for me.

I just don't see the draw.

  3. The opening segment was so bad, to the point where it was uncomfortable to watch. And then the Tina Fey endorsement. I guess we now know who Lorne Michaels is supporting. Just another rich person supporting a republican lite.

What a piece of trash show, there is nothing at all brilliant about it.

  5. Love Tina Fey.

  6. I thought the Huckabee bit was funny but the Hillary bit was not.
I still find it hard to listen to anyone in the entertainment industry endorsing a political figure. Since when were they the brightest crayons in the box? Hell they live in a make believe world.
    Anyone BUT Hillary in 2008.

  7. Hate to say it, but Fey is right. I like both Obama and Clinton, but this country seems more sexist in its approach to Clinton. I don't recall this much animosity towards anyone running for office, not even Bush an Bush Jr. Sadly, with Clinton's recent attack on Obama, it looks as though Clinton is becoming the defensive animal cornered by the media. A normal response I suppose given how much negative press she has received as of late.

  8. RealityThink says: "I guess we now know who Lorne Michaels is supporting." Really? Based on this one skit you think you can say that? What about the Halloween episode that Oprama actually appeared on? Remember? The one where everyone kept coming on calling Hillary a witch and/or a bitch. Then Oprama actually appeared and did the intro. If he was such a Hillary supporter then why did he allow Oprama his moment to shine?

  9. i thought it was very funny. the opening of the show was somewhat true. the media is in love with obama. glad to see tina fey on the show.i'm hoping that bitch is the new black!

  10. That was the single worst episode of SNL in its entire history. The skit called "What's That Bitch Talking About?" was so god-awful unfunny, it didn't deserve being on the show, much less near the beginning.

And Weekend Update may have had some laughable bits from Tina Fey and Mike Huckabee, but it also included this gem: "After 50 years as the dictator of Cuba, Fidel Castro announced this week that he's retiring. Quitter."

Seriously, that's the best they could come up with? This show is way, WAY past its prime.

  11. While it may be out of suits, generally, for the entertainment industry to open their mouths on politics, they are not in every case ill informed.

Fey is a smart lady, creatively and intellectually, and I'm glad she has a venue to say whatever the hell she wants.

  12. Nobody thought Obama would go this far back in October, especially Hillary (that's why her campaign is falling apart now). It was safe to have him on for entertainment purposes back then. But now he is a threat to the mainstream media which is who Lorne Michaels gets his riches from. Remember Hillary's husband signed the telecommunications act in 1996 and it has been a huge winfall for GE, owner of NBC. They do not want Obama to win this nomination and bring along a bunch of progressives down ticket with him, like Donna Edwards in Maryland.

This about much more than entertainment now!!

Fey might be smart but she also knows where her meal ticket comes from.

  13. Hillary is a bitch... and she can't be trusted, and that's why she's absolutely power-suited for the White House.
    She deserves Presidency.

Obama is too good to be President. It'd ruin him.

  14. Though ot my preferd candidate, I don't see how perpetuating a repub talking point helps Hillary.

It doesn't convert anyone who isn't already a strong Hillay supporter.

I think Tina Fey did worse by Hillary with this cheap and easy schtick than she helped her.

  15. It was brilliant. And if you notice the people who didn't like it make it clear who they are supporting. Her points were meant to be funny and play on the many many MANY reasons people have said they don't like Hillary. It was hilarious to take the one thing I hear daily about that woman and make it a positive. And frankly is the one thing that I've always loved about Hillary. She's a bitch and so what?

    BITCH IS THE NEW BLACK.

  16. Anybody who stays up to watch SNL is just plain silly. It's all about the DVR. =oP

That being said, it was interesting to see how SNL changed it's tone on Hillary in the skits. It's obvious Tina put her stamp on the skits. Previously, Hillary has been portrayed as dominating and arrogant, last night they made her be a victim.

  17. I'm an Obama supporter, but I've been very disturbed by the sexism in a lot of the attacks on Hillary. I think Tina Fey is, as usual, spot on here.

  18. Banne

    You made my point

Nobody who isn't already supporting Hillary will come away from it supporting her.

Hillary must convince Indies to switch to her (currently breaking 2 to 1 in all states for Obama and no Obama they break MCcain).

The "bitch" thing is such a repub talking point that it would better serve her if supporters of her did not embrace it but refuted the whole premise.

Strong women are not automaticaly bitches. Succesful women ae not bitches just because they are succesful.

All this did was reaffirm the repub talking point which is a negative and pushes people away from Hillary not towards her.

It works for an easy Yehaaaaa from supporters, but supporters are already voting for her.

  19. God, lighten the fuck up. It's SNL. It's comedy. It was hilarious.
