John McCain Rips Russia and its Anti-Gay Laws in Op-Ed Putin Never Sees, is Mocked on Kimmel: VIDEO

Earlier this month, after Russian President Vladimir Putin penned a NYT op-ed intended to meddle with American minds over the Syrian conflict, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) vowed to publish his own in the iconic Russian newspaper Pravda.

In it, McCain blasted Putin: Mccain

"(Putin) is not enhancing Russia's global reputation. He is destroying it. He has made her a friend to tyrants and an enemy to the oppressed, and untrusted by nations that seek to build a safer, more peaceful and prosperous world..."

McCain, who has never been one to stand up for LGBT rights, also shockingly slammed Russia's anti-gay laws:

"They write laws to codify bigotry against people whose sexual orientation they condemn. They throw the members of a punk rock band in jail for the crime of being provocative and vulgar and for having the audacity to protest President Putin's rule."

Unfortunately, McCain's diatribe did not reach his intended audience, for it was published in Pravda.ru, an online site, and not the well-known paper.

Politicker reports:

Pravda.ru, the news outlet that actually published McCain’s piece, is an electronic news website founded in 1999. Even though the website also bears the name Pravda, it is not connected to Pravda newspaper. The website has English and Russian editions and covers everything from politics to fashion and celebrities.

While editors at the communist Pravda publication said last week they were not going to accept an op-ed by McCain, a spokesman for the senator said McCain submitted one anyway, in addition to Pravda.ru, since there was confusion over the two different Pravdas. As expected, it was not published by the newspaper.

Putin said Thursday in a press conference he was not aware of McCain’s opinion piece about Russia.

McCain also received a sound mocking from Jimmy Kimmel last night.

John McCain Calls Out Islamophobic FOX News Commentary: VIDEO

Islamophobia_mccain

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) had some words with FOX News' Brian Kilmeade after Kilmeade freaked out over Syrian opposition groups' use of the phrase "Allah Akbar".

Said McCain:

“Would you have a problem with an American person saying 'Thank God? Thank God?' That’s what they're saying. Come on! Of course they're Muslims, but they're moderates and I guarantee you that they are moderates. For someone to say 'Allah Akbar' is about as offensive as someone saying, 'Thank God'”

John Boehner, Eric Cantor Support Military Strikes Against Syria: VIDEO

Boehner

GOP House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor are getting behind President Obama's plan for military strikes against Syria, following a White House meeting on Tuesday.

Said Boehner outside the White House: "I appreciate the president reaching out to me and my colleagues in the Congress over the last couple of weeks. I also appreciate the president asking the Congress to support him in this action...I am going to support the president's call for action,” he told reporters. I believe my colleagues should support this call for action."

Said Cantor in a statement following Boehner's press conference: "I intend to vote to provide the President of the United States the option to use military force in Syria. While the authorizing language will likely change, the underlying reality will not. America has a compelling national security interest to prevent and respond to the use of weapons of mass destruction, especially by a terrorist state such as Syria, and to prevent further instability in a region of vital interest to the United States."

Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain have also thrown their support behind military action:

McCain said U.S. credibility would be "shredded" internationally if Congress thwarts a president after he has already committed to military action.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who also took part in the meeting, said he and McCain would like to see a more sustained military effort but that he intended to support the authorization plan that emerges.

Graham said "a pretty solid plan" was emerging from the administration "upgrade the opposition" and to "degrade" Assad's regime. "We don't want endless war... We want sustainable security. And Syria is a cancer that's growing in the region."
