Boy George Comes Out of Hiding

Boygeorge

Boy George, who last week in a lengthy interview with the Daily Mail told the tabloid "I hate talking about me" appeared on UK show This Morning to do just that, giving a short interview before a performance of "This Little Light of Mine".

When asked if a new album is in the works, George responded, "That will come once I've gone out there and repaired my reputation...I've decided that yes, I'd like to stay out of trouble."

Tomorrow he's set to begin a concert tour around England (his first in ten years) called "Songs That Make You Dance and Cry".

George told the Manchester Evening News: "I'm not coming out to do a nostalgia show. Nostalgia is a word which stinks of desperation. There are a lot of people who think I am desperate and they are very wrong. I feel this is a good time to do this. It's not motivated by money. They're small shows. We'll barely cover costs. I haven't made any money out of being a musician in - God knows - 20 years. I have to accept that in the past couple of years, all people have heard of me are bad things. So I've got to show them I'm not some seedy road-sweeper, that actually I am a proper artist and songwriter and I've got a great voice. And I think I forgot that as well. I got pre-occupied with other things and lost confidence in myself...I think at this stage I don't really have a career I need to save."

  1. Everytime I see a post about George I get nostalgic for the early 80's when I first came out. My favorite was Miss Me Blind, when that song started we hit the dance floor in droves! I still think he is fabulous, would love to sit and chat with him for awhile.

  2. He really does have an amazing singing voice; Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and Time (Clock Of The Heart) etc proved that. And let's not forget he was out and proud in the early 1980's when practically every other major gay star was so far inside the closet they were in Narnia.

  3. Yes, Boy George did have an amazing voice but like with anything that is mistreated with abuse it wanes.

  4. Beyond morbid fascination and anticipation of teh next E! True Hollywood Story, I can't imagine why anyone would care.

  5. Rich, you snarky b*tch, I care because it is the music I grew up with -- he and Jimmy Sommerville were not only the ONLY gay icons in culture, they were both mega-successful and sang wonderfully. Culture CLub and Bronski Beat were in some ways the only HOPE for a queerboy in the early 80's. (Word Ken, I also loved "Miss Me Blind" as well as "Victims") I give Boy George credit for at least trying to get on the right path now (and, like many Brits, he is at least refreshingly honest about it. Plus, like Kiefer Sutherland he did his time and community service with grace.) OK, maybe the hooker handcuffed to the radiator part is morbid fascination.... ;)

  6. Strepsi, correct on all points. I used to play "Victims" over and over...

  7. Where I was in the early 80s, it was "I'll Tumble For Ya" that got everybody's ass shakin.

  8. George will forever be one of my idols. I've adored him since back in the day up until now.

He may have his "troubles" but he is still a hero to me.
