Mary Cheney, With Karl Rove, Backs Another Anti-Gay Candidate

6a00d8341c730253ef01348648e307970c-300wi Just when you thought it was safe to go to the ballot box, more details drip out about Karl Rove's behind-the-scenes machinations.

The legendary right-wing operative has been hard at work amassing $32 million for his tax-exempt organization American Crossroads and its network of ideologically identical allies.

"When Mr. Rove left the White House in 2007, Democrats rejoiced at what they believed would be the end of his political career and the brand of Republicanism he espoused. This election season is proving that he is back — if he ever really left at all," writes Jim Rutenberg for the New York Times writes.

"[Rove is]  playing a leading role in building what amounts to a shadow Republican Party, a network of donors and operatives that is among the most aggressive in the Republican effort to capture control of the House and the Senate."

And guess who's helping Rove in his GOP-loving crusade? Mary Cheney, of course! She's currently working with the murky 527 group Alliance for America’s Future. And, yes, Dick Cheney's out lesbian daughter's again going against the gay grain by supporting an anti-equality candidate.

Considering the Alliance and American Crossroads don't have to disclose their activities, it's difficult to track all of their money. There is, however, at least one record of the Alliance's electoral involvement, in New York, where they have given $90,000 to Randy Altschuler, a New York Republican Congressional candidate who opposes gay marriage and Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and recently received a boost from out GOP insider Ken Mehlman.

The Atschuler money only further cements Cheney's reputation as an anti-equality crusader: the 41-year old gave gay opponent Kelly Ayotte a $500 personal donation for her New Hampshire Senate race this year, and the Alliance aided discriminatory Florida Gubernatorial candidate, Attorney General Bill McCollum, by attacking his primary opponent. Their efforts failed.

  1. Once your bank account hits a certain number of digits, equality becomes meaningless.

  2. If Democrats really believed that Karl Rove's career was going to end in 2007, it only shows how utterly stupid the Democrats really are. They are utterly unfit to deal with the Republican Fourth Reich.

  4. What does it say when the gay left actually believes that Rove does NOT support the likes of O'Donnell?

Ooh, ohh pick me!!! I know the answer to this one!!!

  5. People like Mary Cheney don't need equal rights, they have the money and connections to create their own equality with just a couple phone calls.

  8. that Karl Rove to Ms. Cheney's right in the picture? He certainly has changed. I assume this means he's about to come out of the closet.

  10. Nope, MarkDC---they had two babies. And sent out tons of announcement cards with a photo of Dick and Lynne holding the poor things. One of the few cases where I don't support gay parenting.

  13. I have nothing good to say about Mary Cheney. There's no reason to do so....

(is she the person to blame for the embarrassment that is GOProud?)

  14. We are living a fantasy if we do not acknowledge MONEY as (truly) the root of all Cheney.....I mean evil.

Example - before prisons were privatized we had 350,000 inmates. Ten years later we have 3,000,000 inmates, or "clients", as Laurie Anderson refers to them. And now 1 out of 100 Americans are in prison, and we all KNOW which skin colors of choice get preferential treatment when it comes to incarceration.

The WAR MACHINE is no different, nor is this "gay rights struggle". When we put our money where our rights should be (yes, even with our own lives and freedom on the line), maybe the U.S. will listen.

  17. I seriously don't think Mary Cheney is gay. She's just role-playing.

  18. Who's surprised? Mary Cheney is a rich near middle age white woman who has it all. She's been not much more than a profession lesbian for the past 20 years so she doesn't "need" the protection the rest of us want, need and deserve. Her party hates her but are terrified of the damage she might do should they turn on her so she's given free reign. She is so self-serving as to be laughable and I truly pity her child. And, although I rarely comment on personal appearance doesn't Mary look an awful lot like her old man - especially with that receding hairline (and that's not in a good way)?

  19. The name of Rove's tax exempt organization is "American Crossroads"? I could have sworn it was "American Cockroaches" which makes so much more sense.

    Posted by: ThomT | Sep 28, 2010 9:28:28 AM

  20. Has anyone checked those Cheney babies for the 666 markings?

"Soulless whores" is right, "R". There is no other explanation. It makes no sense... just like Gay Republicans. I don't get it.
