Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings Refuses To Move Forward With Resolution Supporting Marriage Equality: VIDEO

Despite earlier reports that the Dallas City Council was planning to take up a resolution supporting same-sex marriage and that the votes to pass it were secured, it appears the proposal has collapsed under Mayor Mike Rawlings' refusal to place the resolution on the council agenda. Yesterday, LGBT activists gathered in Dallas to express outrage over the demise of the resolution and of Rawlings' tepid support of gay rights in general.

The Dallas Voice reports:

Screen Shot 2013-05-31 at 10.32.54 AMMayor Mike Rawlings, who avoided taking a stance on the resolution for six months, had publicly announced earlier Tuesday that he planned to vote in favor of it even though he feels it is a "misuse" of council time. But after [Councilwoman Delia] Jasso removed her signature, Rawlings said Wednesday he wouldn't place the resolution on the council agenda because it no longer had the five council signatures needed to force him to do so.

You will recall that the first-term mayor was previously on record saying the resolution was "a waste of time."
