Harlem Pastor Defends Stance Of Stoning Gays: VIDEO

Pastor James David Manning

Pastor James David Manning of ATLAH World Missionary Church on 123rd Street in New York City's Harlem neighborhood has taken to YouTube to comment on the endorsement for the murder of homosexuals on his church's marquee, an endorsement that the church wasn't quite prepared to follow through on as one lesbian revealed. Manning takes the time to clarify,

JesusWouldStoneHomosI never said that I would stone homos. I never said that. I never said that I would ask anyone else to stone homos. I never said that. What I did say is what the Bible says, and I gave several verses within the word of God that would demonstrate why I believe that Jesus would stone homos.

He then proceeds to quite the predictible verses from Old Testament laws, Leviticus in particular, and then performs some remarkable intellectual gymnastics to interpret the story from John about whether or not an adulteress should be stoned - the story where Jesus said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" - as approval for public execution. Therefore, because Jesus did call for her execution (even though he cast no stones himself despite being the only sinless one there), he would approve the execution of homosexuals as well, even though it's a topic never addressed by Jesus anywhere between Genesis and Revelations.

You can watch over 8 minutes of Manning's rationalizations AFTER THE JUMP...

  2. It's hard to fathom how someone could so completely miss the point of that parable.

  3. So, since Jesus would stone gay people but we shouldn't, that means that we shouldn't try to be more Christ-like. WWJD indeed.

  6. there's no credible evidence for anything supernatural, much less for the barbaric "god" of the abrahamic religions.

there's no credible evidence for the divinity of jesus.

we have to publicly call out all religionists on their mumbo jumbo.

we can no longer allow them to go about claiming to know things they don't know.

    the scam is up.

  7. I am going to be as polite and respectful on this as possible......It is my belief that religion should not promote hate and this sign about Jesus would stone Homos should be unacceptable as that type of signage could give some folks permission to commit violence against gay people......and what continues to bewilder and shock me is that pastors/preachers in the black community preach and promote anti-gay statements and I guess I struggle with one minority group being so insensitive to another minority group......and yes, I understand those who promote anti-gay beliefs don't believe being gay is a minority class, but.......there should be some level of sensitivity that those who are seen as different in society......

  8. The dumbass would probably enjoy the publicity, but someone should sue his ass for threatening bodily harm. Or maybe just toss a few stones at him.

  9. There are some theories Jesus was gay, in a relationship with John, and I hope so because him and every asshat like him are going to be in for one hell of a shock.

  12. according to the same book he uses to stone gays it will be okay to grab the pastor and put him back in chains since the bible allows for the owning of slaves . i am sick of these people who use the bible as an instrument of hate by using selected passages

  13. This is exactly why Protestants should never have broken away from the Catholic church. If a Catholic priest ever suggested that gay people should be stoned he would be excommunicated and defrocked by the Pope. This is what happens when any and every ignoramus reads the Bible and thinks they can interpret scripture for themselves and know the truth.

  16. uh...george...protestants breaking away from the catholic church are the reason i was brought up in the humanist, LGBT-inclusive and non-dogmatic united church of canada, with a gay and then a lesbian minister.

funny, though. the pastor has no qualms with utterly re-painting Christ into a hateful violent boor.

  17. This is precious. Let him keep talking. It will make any reasonable human being understand how hatred can be used by preachers. He could replace Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church.
oh, maybe we should send him to Uganda.
does anyone know anything about his church, or about what his church congregation thinks? That would be enlightening.

  20. "i am sick of these people who use the bible as an instrument of hate by using selected passages"

Given all the rape, slaughter, enslavement, torture, misogyny, and cruelty the Bible calls for, you'd have to be highly selective to see it as anything other than an instrument of hate. It says what it says, not what you want it to say, and it _means_ what it says, not what you want it to mean.

The problem isn't simply the Pastor Mannings of the world who use the Bible to justify hatred. The problem is everyone who legitimizes the Bible, thereby making the hatred it calls for a legitimate subject of debate. Those who legitimize the Bible and then pretend it doesn't promote hatred and cruelty are quislings to its savagery and backstabbers of the millions upon millions who have suffered the evil it commands. ALL belief in the Bible needs to be utterly extinguished. The meager few redeemable moral teachings it offers are well established elsewhere. We don't need to cling to a profoundly and thoroughly defective myth to justify them and maintain them.

  21. In his justifiacation of saying Jesus would stone homos this Minister said the word LOVE once. In the first same sex weding today in Muskegan County Michigan the word LOVE was used 33 times. I counted. You decide- Where is the love and where is the hate.
