Prop 8 Plaintiffs Renew Marriage Vows One Year Later: VIDEO

Prop 8 wed eat cake

Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo married at Los Angeles City Hall just hours after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted the stay on its ruling on Prop 8 last year. Now, exactly one year later, the couple have renewed their vows - this time in an elaborate ceremony in front of friends and family.

The big event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 28 and was, appropriately, officiated by Prop 8 attorneys Ted Olson and David Boies.

Frontiers reports on the day:

The ceremony itself was simple, emotional and shared—as they were escorted to the center of the “stage” by their mothers and nieces and nephews put in appearances to present the rings. As if to illustrate the point he was making, Olson read off cards he was holding to note that marriage is not about perfection and not only about marrying the right partner but being the right partner.

Guests included Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, Lance Bass, Darren Criss, Rob Reiner and retired District Court Judge Vaughn Walker.

  1. I wish Rob Reiner would stop saying "it's the last big piece" of civil rights for our time. That's plainly ridiculous, and makes the marriage equality movement, not to mention the larger LGBT movement, look selfish and myopic.

Of the top of my head: atheists, men, and single people have their civil rights, freedoms, and equality trod on quite regularly, and are at least as important as same-sex marriage. They aren't the only ones. The poor, the young, the polyamorous, ... it goes on and on.

  6. @Peter. No, you're thinking of the Beverly Hills Hotel. This is a Beverly Hilton where they have the Golden Globes and where Whitney Houston bought the farm.

  7. Milsy, yeah so much better to wallow in filth. Having sex with strangers in a back room or a bathroom with the smell of feces in your nostrils and not knowing if your trick will suck you or kill you. Or going to a bathhouse and having sex with 10 guys in 2 hours and turning your body into a biological hazard. Or selecting a sex partner off of an app, shopping for bodies by looking at jpegs of genitalia. Or having short term "boyfriends" who stay with you for so long as you prove entertaining or until something better comes along. That's living!

These guys are conformist. They are conforming to basic, fundamental needs that every human being has. Love, kindness, connection, and caring. We don't know what the future holds for them, but statistically they are vastly more likely to live long, happy lives. How hideous!

  9. Heheh, yes, what Thomas Ferrente just said - plus, how classy to attack two heroes of gay rights history and their great achievements for same. Class. Act. Not.
