Richard Land: LGBT Non-Discrimination Measures 'Suppress The Freedom Of Speech' - LISTEN

Screen Shot 2014-08-18 at 7.51.36 AMDiscussing the defeat of an LGBT non-discrimination measure in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, homophobes Richard Land and Gene Mills have claimed that such ordinances “suppress the freedom of speech,” reports Right Wing Watch. Mills also suggested that any "discrimination" members of the LGBT community might feel from society is really just the inner "shame and guilt" surrounding their "ultimate rebellion against God."

By a vote of 4-8, Baton Rouge last week voted down an ordinance that would have prohibited discrimination in the parish, including on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, approximately 200 cities currently have non-discrimination ordinances in place.

Filling in for Tony Perkins last week on hate group Family Research Council broadcast Washington Watch, former Southern Baptist Convention official Land said:

“Homosexuality and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community, that is the ultimate rebellion against God. We don’t want them to take away from us the right to say that, to say that’s a rebellion against God.”

Louisiana Family Forum member Mills replied:

“And that’s exactly what they were doing, they were going to use a cause of action against us to silence — and that is what is happening in ‘everywhere USA’ — religious liberty is under assault…. Any expression, any thought, anything you just shared, could have been construed as a hate crime or an act of discrimination, and the reality is the shame and the guilt the homosexual feels is mistakenly reinterpreted as discrimination and what they attempt to do is to call it discrimination and prohibit it.”

Referring to President Obama’s executive order providing protections for LGBT employees of federal contractors, Land last month said that conservatives need to stand up to “the gay thought police” or face Nazi-style persecution.

  1. Perhaps if these guys would read some Supreme Court cases regarding freedom of speech they would realize they're talking out of their butts. FOS is not protected in every single case. We have a right to it, but not the permission to abuse that right.

This is just another example of right-wingers and fundamentalist Christians spouting their nonsense without having any idea of what our Constitution and Bill of Rights really say.

  2. "the ultimate rebellion against God"??????????????? So it is better to be a rapist, murderer, assaulter, etc? These are the words of someone who picks and chooses the sin to justify their absolute hate. These *sshats want us DEAD. Does anyone get that yet? They want us DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They want to commit the murder and assaults on us - human beings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So if they want us DEAD, then who is really rebelling with out of control language that incites weak and controlled "christians" to bow down to the hate and lies propagated by these so-called religious leaders. The will surely be damned to hell by their own god with their evil condemnation and judgment.

  4. The "christians" want us gone but how are they to do it? Their are two ways. Since gay children are the result of heterosexual interaction, everyone needs to stop making babies because 3-8% of babies are gay. Though this would eventually lead to human extinction. The only other way is for science to develop a pre-birth test to determine orientation and then the religious community can endorse abortions of these evil creations that are justified in the name of "god".

  5. These bigots could make the same arguments about laws barring discrimination against blacks and women. They probably did.

  6. Obviously it is NOT an "ultimate rebellion against god" or god would do something about it himself. If you really do believe in such fairy tale supreme beings then you should also believe that he doesn't need YOU to carry out his "vengeance".
Grow up. Children eventually are told that Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy are not real, why keep telling them and adults that god is real? I love the saying, "Children have imaginary friends, adults have god"

  7. You can say whatever you want, bigot. We really don't care about that, it just shows what horrible people you are and we like being able to identify you as such.

It's when you use your religious beliefs to deny us housing, jobs and service at public places that tends to get us angry.

That's what this is about, not speech, idiots.

  8. If LGBT non-discrimination measures suppress freedom of speech, then so do religious non-discrimination measures.

  9. These men are false prophets. They are using religion as a tool to gain political power for their organizations, and financial benefit for themselves. The ones who lie the loudest and most outrageously are the ones who fear the loss of economic power and political influence.

My question to SINCERE religious believers: Why do you not stand up to these men and rebuke them for poisoning society against religious believers? Why do you not oppose them and point out the contradictions between the teachings of Jesus, and the hate that 'men' like Richard Land preach? Why do you not expel them from your congreagations so that people of different faiths and non-believers can see the positive things that you do in society, and the good things that religion offers?

What would Jesus do? Jesus would drive them from the Church in an explosion of righteous rage, and condemn them to hell for committing violence in His name, against His children.

  10. "Ultimate Rebellion Against God" is a rhetorical endpoint. You really can't get any more alarmist unless you say something like "coming to rape your children this very minute". It's a final salvo before defeat since you don't have anything else.

  12. "Freedom of RELIGION" is their new catch word... what freedom of religion are you referring to? The right to hate, persecute, demean, disparage, ridicule, diss, murder, maim, brutalize, stigmatize and any and other forms of bigotry and inhumanity ??? THAT freedom of RELIGION?Many now are comparing what is happening to Christians, Yazidis, and other minorities in Iraq with treatment Christians face in the US is a big lie and insult to the suffering in the Middle East.
Comparing ISIS and the LGBT community is a huge lie, sheer bigotry, and hate mongering.
That Christians accuses us of wholesale indoctrination. Irony and hypocrisy must be their new commandments.

  13. Indoctrination is what religion does starting before birth, then quickly followed up with the christening ritual moments after birth, then godly daycare and then godly education from 3k to college degree. And then beyond to start on the next generation of unsuspecting babies.

We don't indoctrinate since we are BORN THIS WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one is born religious - it is taught. No one is born with hate - it is taught. No one is born a bigot - IT IS TAUGHT!
