I agree. Dark Superman movies do NOT work. The Christopher Reeves ones worked because they had a bit of humor and did not take themselves so godawful serious. It’s superman for cripes sake! Lighten up!

I remember in the late 50’s early 60’s DC being the hopeful bright world, while Marvel was more real-life and darker or pessimistic. The movies have reversed the equation. This movie is based on the Frank Miller Dark Knight comics so it’s going to be really dark.

This lacks the build up to necessitate the story line. We jump from ‘Hi there’ to ‘Worship the god…or, KILL IT WITH FIRE!’ in two movies with nothing to make us feel for either side. There’s no soul to the new franchise. It’s just boom boom boom, kill kill kill.

This looks great and I’m excited to see them venturing into new waters with the genre rather than follow the Disneyfied Marvel movies.

I like the way they are playing with how a super being would be received by humans. They’re really digging into the pathos of a world with super powered people.

I also really like that they are taking Superman and the others on a real journey. I like that before these characters can be heroes there is a gauntlet they must first pass through in order to prove themselves.

    Very exciting!

I agree that I don’t like making Superman so dark tonally because a Superman film should be optimistic and fun. But like “Man of Steel” before it, they’re going for more of that realistic Christopher Nolan “Batman” vibe. Still, it will be cool to have both characters (and others) in the same movie at last so I’ll try to reserve judgment. I’ve always been curious how Batman could ever be considered a threat to Superman anyway.
