Kremlin Slipped Spy Gadgets Into G20 Summit Gift Bags: VIDEO

Obama Putin

Proving that the Russian government is insistent on becoming a real-life version of the one run by Archer's Nikolai Jackov, Italian newspaper La Stampa reports that gift bags given to G20 attendees contained spy gadgets meant to harvest data on communications. The gadgets in question - USB drives and phone charging cables - were modern day Trojan horses, bugged with software that would obtain information from computers and cell phones.

GoodiesAn unnamed diplomat derided the failed attempt at spying, saying that only someone making a "schoolboy error" would have actually attempted to use the devices on their own machines because the security concerns were "obvious."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov naturally denied the allegations of bungled espionage, and instead engaged in a tactic that Republican politicians are renowned for: shifting blame back to the accusers. Peskov claimed that the bugged devices were actually evidence of Western governments trying to divert attention away from the scandals surrounding the NSA's spying activities.

Jon Stewart had a bit of a field day with the goodie bags.

British PM David Cameron Addresses Gay Rights with Putin; Obama to Meet with LGBT Groups

UK Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted last night that he had a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about gay rights at a meeting at the G20 summit.

Tweeted Cameron: "2am meeting with President Putin. A candid conversation on #Syria. I also raised concerns about gay rights."

It had been reported that Cameron would bring up the issue.

President Obama, while not meeting with Putin, is scheduled to meet with Civil Society groups, and LGBT groups, Friday evening, according to guidance provided to Towleroad by the White House.

Yesterday, the White House made clear that "in particular" Obama was interested in meeting with the LGBT representatives.

Said Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes: "Given our serious concerns with some of the recent laws that have been passed and restrictions on activity for gays and lesbians within Russia, we felt it was important to ensure that we were including their voices in a discussion with the President."

Watch: Gays Protest G20 Summit in Toronto

More than 100 LGBTQ protesters hit the streets of Toronto yesterday ahead of the G20 summit there.

Reuters reports:

"'We're queer, we're fabulous, we're against the G20,' marchers chanted as two dozen police on mountain bikes watched, breaking their strict formation at least once to tackle a rowdy protester to the ground. One protester wearing tights, stilettos and a pink-faced, papier-mache head of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper clapped along as demonstrators danced to the beat of drums. Protesters said they were trying to draw attention to the rights of all minority populations marginalized because of their gender, sexuality or socioeconomic status. Canada is spending about C$1 billion ($980 million) on security for two back-to-back international summits this week. The Group of Eight will meet in the town of Huntsville, Ontario, 215 km (135 miles) north of Toronto on June 25-26. The larger G20 gathers June 26-27 in Toronto, where the city center is awash with police and security fencing."

Protesters were also angry about the corporatization of the Pride parade and the censorship of pro-Palestinian queers, according to a report from Submedia TV.
