Washington state senate rejects gay rights bill. By one vote. Where was Microsoft to protect its gay and lesbian employees? Here's where they were. And the backstory.
"Do you think Jennifer Hudson is totally a better diva than Fantasia and you’d kick anyone’s ass who disagrees?" There's a new gay gang starting up in L.A. (via Craigslist of course) "Now this gang isn’t fancy-pansy like the ones in West Side Story. Wait, who am I kidding? It’s EXACTLY like West Side Story. Only this time, Tony and Chino will have the cajones to actually get together, instead of wasting time on Natalie Wood (whose only good performance was in Rebel Without a Cause there I said it)."

Well -- the first thing we can do is stop buying Microsoft products. Makes me happy I bought an iBook last weekend.
Also . . . reading this posting about MSoft and also the disturbing posting about the Texas legislation makes me wonder . . . why aren't we really fighting back? I'm old enough to remember the march on Washington in '93. The sheer numbers of us taking to the streets in our nation's capitol kept me going for several years. Yet we (and that includes me) are so complacent now. Is it because we're settling for a comfort zone as opposed to settling for nothing other than complete and equal rights? We can do better.

I happily threw my Microsoft "products" in the trash 2 years ago. I believe Colorado's gay rights bill gets voted on this week as well. It would be strange if CO voted yes after WA voted no. Crazy nation right now.

Kimmer- I couldn't agree more. What is it going to take for people to actually get in the streets and protest or truly let our voices be heard. As things continue to grow worse for gay and lesbians around the United States, what is it going to take for our own complacency to end? The young NYU student started by standing up to Justice Scalia, but where are the rest of us on these issues? Look at what's happening in Texas, the bill in Alabama to ban gay books in schools, and now the bill in Washington (and I'm sure several other states with similar anti-gay legislation being debated).
We talk about things we want to do, but never actually do them. Or even worse, have a group of people in our own community who are jaded and love to make comments "like too much, too soon, too fast." Why should we be forced to play to the religious right and "tow the line" of what they want. It's a mentality of okay, "things are pretty good, let's not say anything that will piss them off." It's no way to live guys.
When living in NYC I passed Stonewall probably 10,000 times, but as a young gay man never thought much about it. I had that luxury because a group of people stood up and said "ENOUGH!" With the current direction that so many states are taking who will stand up today to do the same?
As a community, as human beings who want equality, when will we unite to say "enough"?
I never considered myself a political person, just a person who wants the same rights as everybody else, but if that makes me political, radical and/or liberal than so be it.

I just wonder how many of the "Microsoft millionaires"...and billionaires are G/L? Many still with Microsoft. Whom of them has Uncle Bill's ear?...it needs to be chewed on a bit.
I wonder if there's going to be any broken crockery in Redmond tomorrow morning?
I'm certainly pissed at Microsoft, and I do have options for my small business' software needs. Think I'll vote with my wallet....

I want my President Clinton years back! As a resident of Seattle, I'm curious to see what the vibe will be in the gay community this weekend. I know a LOT of glbt who are gainfully employed there. I was sickened when reading the article in the Stranger, but I'm so happy to see that their assinine move has reached places outside of Washington. We have a long road ahead of us, and a lot of enemies (um, bush, popeland, and obviously fundamental extremists), but it's also amazing that this is all on the surface now. People are DEALING with it instead of just ignoring it! Thank God (The one who doesn't hate the gays)!
