road.jpg Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich chooses to veto gay rights bill that would have granted medical and funeral-related rights to unmarried couples in the state. Del. Madaleno (D-Montgomery): "The moderate wing of the Republican Party in Maryland, which the governor is supposed to represent, has dwindled into obscurity. Truly moderate Republican governors around the nation, like CT Gov. Jodi Rell and CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, have lent support for far more comprehensive measures than those the governor killed today."

  1. Sad that the hysterical groupthink of republicans has spread so far so fast. Connecticut and California are among the most liberal states in the country - it's a wonder republicans could even win these govenorships (though both came to the job outside normal channels) Things have to turn around soon. Politics are a cycle...

  2. Ehrlich is a total idiot who has alienated the majority of the legislature. He's not long for the office. Hopefully Balmer's Mayor McHottie, a champion of LGBT rights, will take his place.

  3. I don't care what our Gay republican /Conservatives pals say the only moderate republicans are the gay ones. We have no support in the republican pary leadership on the state or national level. City / County in some areas are a tad more supportive. Democrats are not the best but no one is perfect in politics. In a state like Maryland this is even more offensive than it is in Alabama.

  7. Gov. Ehrlich is the worst joke in American politics. How liberal Maryland let itself get saddled with a RIGHTWING Republican governor is a lesson for us all. He did it by running against an inept woman (Kathleen Townsend Kennedy) and by choosing a black running mate, who seemed like a nice moderate chap during the election.
Fortunately, Baltimore Mayor O'Malley is a great liberal candidate to replace Ehrlich's fascist regime in Annapolis. I think O'Malley better choose a black running mate if he wants to win, though. O'Malley IS hot. A very handsome man for his age. Very pro-gay. But Ehrlich, in typical RightWing Nut Case fashion, has been working overtime to spread false rumors about O'Malley having an affair. It's a LIE, of course, but it is standard Republican Strategy these days. PRAY that O'Malley defeats Ehrlich in the next election. MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, and CALIFORNIA all have Republican governors! And the rightwingers STILL whine and whine about being victims of liberals. Liberals? When liberals don't even hold the governorship of our 3 most liberal states, just HOW do they think we can victimize anyone??? 1984 is here.

  8. Don't rule out Doug duncan....but yeah...i'm way for O'Malley also....When Erhlic became governor...i wasn't immediatly opposed to him,I don't believe the democrats controlling everything is really any better than the republicans, for example he was reformed some of the beaurocracy, which was out of control under Glendenning(sp)...However he has shown himself to be a serious NeoCon...and a Straussian...Erhlic can say goodbye in 06' in my opinion...He doesn't have the support he had b4 (which he only had against the democrats weakest candidate ever)...He shouldn't be capitolozing on mandated majority which he doesn't have in maryland...>>Keep Maryland Blue!
