Best gay blog. Towleroad Wins Award

04/05/2006

road.jpg Can gay families attend the Easter Egg Roll at the White House? Laura Bush says yes, all families can.

Dangerous_muse_1road.jpg Everybody seems to be talking about Dangerous Muse, and I have to agree I think their tracks are pretty great. A Socialite's Life is having a Dangerous Muse contest.

road.jpg Culture of corruption: Disgraced politician Tom Delay returns to Washington and gets a hero's welcome.

road.jpg Brand new Erasure CD to be previewed at 10am EST in its entirety on Sirius OutQ and Andy Bell and Vince Clarke will be there.

road.jpg Clay Aiken's worst nightmare now has a blog and on it photographs of the DNA encrusted washcloth.

road.jpg Secret Lovers: TBS promoting Lord of the Rings as a gay romance: "Are Sam and Frodo a little more than friends? Not that there's anything wrong with that."

road.jpg Page Six: "WHICH closeted local hockey pro is having a secret affair with a 19-year-old Latino hunk, who is rumored to sleep with "lots of old men" around town for money and gifts?" Wouldn't it be nice if it were the New York Islanders Rick diPietro?

road.jpg Walmart has ignored the cries of the American Family Association and decided to go ahead and sell the Brokeback Mountain DVD in their stores. AFA spokesman Randy Sharp: "It wasn't even a blockbuster movie, so if Wal-Mart isn't trying to push an agenda, why would they put it at the front door?" With an international box office of $165 million I'd say BBM did pretty well. And word is out that the DVD sold 1.4 million units on its first day of release!

  1. 1) Since when was Brokeback not a blockbuster? It was huge.
    2) Google "lord of the rings slash fiction" and see just how much Sam and Frodo really do like each other. Slash art as well; the Theban Band has done some amazing stuff.

  2. Nice to see Laura Bush did the right thing.

  3. AFter losing the support of even your own base for most of your policies it's a little late to send your wife out to try and make you look inclusive to shore up those embarassing poll numbers. Doesn't work on me.

  4. Laura Bush = politically contrived solution.
No rights in the USA, however egg hunts in a DADT format is fine.

The problem is that Clay Aiken has a Liberace-type audience and he was probably told to play it straight....the problem, of course, is that his own psychosexual needs for a mate would produce the likes of this individual intent on becoming famous outing the singer.

  5. I do applaud Laura Bush for allowing all families to participate in the egg roll (if in fact she did), but I don't like the label of "Gay Families". The parents just happen to be gay and that shouldn't identify the family as a "gay" family. It's just a family. I also don't like the idea of gay families being organized to attend the event to make a point. I don't think it is fare to the children to be used in such a way to push an agenda. If a family wants to go to celebrate Easter and participate in the festivities then that's fine, but don't drag the family to Washington to put the kids on display as a "Gay Family".

  6. Brokeback Mountain doesn't have to be a blockbuster to be displayed prominantly at the front of a Walmart store. It was an Academy Award nominee!

  7. Maybe I`m dumb, but why doesn`t Clay Aiken just come out. The world will not end. He will lose fans, he will gain fans. Do some good, Pinnochio.

  8. My unit was one of them. The 1.4 million.

  9. Oh, American Family Association.... aren't we all part of American families?

  10. I willingly criticize BushCo at every conceivable chance, but I have to thank Ms. Bush for her decision.

Now let's hope that one day this type of annoucement will not even be necessary and families of all stripes will be welcomed without an edict from the first lady.

  11. that pic of dangerous muse is smokin'! More hottie rocker boys and less jock whatevers.

  12. and the Gandalf (White Horse) ad is a riot...

  13. I live in northern Alabama and was pleasantly surprised to see Brokeback at Wal Mart. The copies were on the bottom shelf of the 'New Releases' section, but at least the flick was there. Probably the only time I was actually happy to shop at Wal Mart.

  14. Walmart IS Alabama's biggest retailer. In fact they are THE WORLD's largest retailer. And I don't suppose that happens by accident.

I would hope that the world's largest retailer is immune to threats by some ignorant yokel "family" group.

  15. Thanks for the news, I think I'll actually buy my brokeback DVD at Walmart as my mini political statement of the week, then go back loathing them as soul crushing example of market forces gone awry.

  16. This past Tuesday Brokeback Mountain was the #1 seller here at the Rhode Island BestBuy. it sold more than Narnia. I was so amused/pleased.

  17. I must be out of the loop. Why is this guy posting his alleged sexual encounter with Clay? So Clay might be gay? Perhaps he doesn't realize that many already believe Clay is gay and don't care.

I guess I go back to my original question. What's the whole point of the blog, picture and Lewinsky-like towel? I don't see the issue.

  18. Yay.... more gay dance music... Im sorry, I'll try to act surprised.

  19. Hockey player - I would have automatically assumed my dream-date Canadian uber-hunk Eric Lindros, but he's gone to Toronto. Somehow I doubt that he's into teen hustlers anyhow.

Brokeback - who in the hell is actually gonna BUY the DVD at WalMart??? The trailer-part residents who shop there? Hardly... it'll be one of the bigger mail-order sales of all time, arriving at the PO Box in that convenient plain brown wrapper from Amazon.

  20. Dangerous Muse - we like! Although electroclash is a disaster in the UK generally.

That a major retailer would consider not stocking Brokeback Mountain is inconceivable here. But we don`t really do religion with any conviction. Anyway, it`s not released here until April 24th!

  21. Sorry, but the Laura Bush thing is pitiful.

Back when James I ruled England, his Catholic Queen Anne attended mass and shot the breeze with the pope all the time. Her husband kept busy hunting down and roasting Catholics over slow-burning fires. Sound familiar?

    Posted by: Jacko | Apr 6, 2006 6:43:42 AM

  22. I'm actually surprised that Wal-Mart would even consider selling it, seeing as they edit most of the movies they sell unless they're rated G. That's why I'll never shop there, just on principal.

  23. Am I the only one who think Dangerous Muse are merely the Pet Shop Boys/Erasure/Human League for the current era? Cuter, gayer, trendier, etc. Blah. (Or am I just showing my age?)

    Posted by: Linear | Apr 6, 2006 8:18:21 AM

  24. Linear - you are of course right, but don`t forget who invented the electro duo - the genius that is Sparks!

Posted by: Peter Rivendell | Apr 6, 2006 9:15:56 AM

  25. BBM's #1 on Amazon as well. And it's number one in my local video store here in Vancouver. BBM is #1, King Kong is #2, and Narnia is #3 to make the top three.
