Dicks Street: Too Hard for its Residents?
Last November I posted about the controversy over Dicks Street in West Hollywood. You might think a controversy over a street name like Dicks in the gayest neighborhood in L.A. might blow over, so to speak. But no, it's 2006, and some residents of Dicks Street are tired of the unending humiliation they have to endure because they live on a street which shares its name with male genitalia.
So, the renaming of Dicks Street may just happen because historians have now said there's no historical value in the name of the street — they can't find anyone for whom the street may have been named.
However, an argument may be made that given its current whiny residents, the name of the street may be entirely appropriate.

the obsession or story sounds fairly lame to me. i find it hard to believe that people make the vapid association....then again, there are pockets of that these days, no?

In Austria, the villagers decided not to change the name of an entire city. The name of the city? Fucking! I kid you not:

The name has been in place for many decades. Every resident knew what the street was called when he or she moved in.
The (tiny!) houses in that neighborhood currently sell for more than a $1 million apiece. I think the concern is less what some delivery guy might think than the opinions of some prospective buyers.

How frigging funny is this? damn, Dildo is not a city.....it is more like a very small settlement that if you blink you pass it and forget you ever were there.........take it from someone who has to pass it everyday as I go to work......city my ass, Dildo is good for one thing.....there sign, great tourist attraction for stupid idiots! LMAO
